The reason property crime went down in Seattle is because a lot of people gave up reporting it. Even if the crooks are caught they are let go as it is racist to prosecute them. Car theft is the 3rd worse in the country in the Seattle area.

My wife and I both enjoy your channel. And we get a lot out of many of your videos. This one, gave me pause to think. When I was in accounting it was sometimes said that figures never lie. BUT LIARS FIGURE. Now we know that you're not the liar here but you have to rely upon figures. In Southern California generally in Los Angeles specifically it seems like law enforcement has gotten soft on crime. Not much effort in many communities as being put into prosecuting property crime, so I see many property crimes they don't even get reported. My son worked in a grocery store where he wasn't even allowed to say anything when he witnessed massive shoplifting. So if the enforcement levels are creating a situation where the statistics don't reflect what's going on. So the numbers that we think we can rely on say one thing truth is quite different. In California you can measure that by looking at how many police and fire officers retire and then immediately leave this state. And it's not just limited to police officers and fireman. Any retired person with any sense at all, is moving away, unless they have family members in family issues that force them to stay as in my case. I guess my challenge to you is take a deeper dive into some of these cities before you accept that property crime is declining. It's harder to ignore violent crime but property crime seems to be getting ignored.

More American Veterans have died there than in the Middle East in the last few years.
Base commanders in the last remaining bases there don’t give stickers for cars to enter base anymore, and military members aren’t allowed to wear their uniforms off base, unlike even in Japan or Korea, because of the incredibly hostile local population. A lot of times though they're not needed the police officers, unless the person is acting violent, there is no distinction between non-violent mental health problems and how they are treated.
So it only helps to have the police officer if there is actually a violent outburst.
Example let's say somebody is trying to take their own life or starts If you call 911 they'll just send a police officer.
But it shouldn't be assumed that you need a police officer every time. It would be better if they actually had a separate service just like if you have a medical emergency, you don't need a police officer to be there in every instance.
I hate that they think that everybody who has a mental health problem is somehow violent when the actual opposite is the truth most people have mental health problems that aren't violet.

When business owners, retail stores and individual citizens are so demoralized by crime that they give up calling the police, crime statistics will go down. Im also guessing that the same criminals who now feel safe enough to walk out without paying for their 6 pack of beer (as you put it) are probably the same ones commiting the violent crimes. On the cities mentioned, there are two obvious reasons for a drop in crime stats. One is "constitutional carry". This is likely the case in Texas and Oklahoma. The other reason is the fact that some DA's won't prosecute certain crimes, or certain individuals. As a result, citizens simply stop reporting those crimes, as it is just a wasted effort.

  • @rustynails8756

One thing that doesn't seem to ever get addressed is the data gathering methods. I live in an area outside Seattle that refunded or reallocated policing funds however one wants to phrase it. "Data" shows a "decrease" in crime. What isn't reflected are retail crimes under a certain value or other numerous crimes that the DA announced he just wouldn't prosecute are not included in the data. In addition so much crime isn't reported due to lack of Business owners don't want to lose insurance for the $5000 claim and police when called say we won't find them or even if you have photos they will not be arrested but if you want we can mail you a form and we will file the report. So again unreported crime not in the data. If an individual is attacked and robbed many aren't reporting for the same reason business owners aren't. Now murders and most shootings are pretty much impossible to keep out of the data. So murder, and shootings are up but other crimes are reported as down. The reality is crime is up substantially just not reported in the same manner as pre COVID. Oh and all those de-escalation folks have had no noticeable impact and the turnover is very high as the majority are just out of college kids who don't have the ability or experience to deal with what they encounter on the job. Not impressed with the new crime reporting data

I think the problem is when you defund the police and combine that with things like bail reform (releasing everybody back on the street instantly) or DA's who don't prosecute crime. If you keep the people that are likely to commit crimes in prison, you will cut crime. The cities need a wholistic and reasoned approach to law enforcement. Like if you have a city with a $100 million dollar budget for police and $0 for social services, if you take a million from the police and put it into services, it won't really hurt the police budget but drastically affect the services sector. So yeah in that situation "defunding" the police helped. But it wasn't taking away money from the police that made things better. It's just that the neglected services were funded by the sliver taken from law enforcement. And are these stats keeping inflation in mind? Like yeah spending is up on everything cause everything costs way more than it did just a few years ago. It doesn't mean you're getting more these days.

Our decentralized systems with our mish mash of federal agencies has bred corruption unlike any other policing systems in the industrialized world. Mexico's systems are highly corrupt as well. If we would like to improve this system, using comparative analyses, we may want to try to centralize our policing systems and have national standards for training, accountability, and funding.

According to Keith Graves of the Christian warrior training TH-cam channel. He was a former California policeman. Who does training for police officers and church security teams. The reason some of the stats have gone down in some places is because they’ve stopped reporting on certain types of crime. Because in some jurisdictions the police have stopped investigating certain types of crimes. Since the police are not gonna investigate, the citizens do not report the losses to the police.
If you really to know what the crime rates are, you have to look at auto theft. Citizens always report this because they want the insurance company to reimburse them.

Well, first of all, kudos for tackling this very controversial subject. At the same time, I would be interested to see data on the prosecution that coincides with lower (or higher crime rates). As many previous viewers have pointed out, if crimes are not prosecuted, then of course the overall crime rate would drop. Considering the kind of videos you see about people descending on stores like a horde of locusts, or people being blind-sided by a physical assault do little to support the view that the cities mentioned (especially Washington D.C. and New York City) are safer than previous. It's like here in California, as long as property theft is less than $1000, it's not a crime. I myself witnessed two women coming out of a Target store with two shopping carts piled to above the rim with items from the store. A man in a shirt & tie stood in the doorway watching them, anger and frustration evident on his face. I asked him what was going on and he simply said, "they didn't pay" and went back inside. Yeah, that's one way to show a decrease in crime rates.

Big Island Hawaii has “task force” units to deal with so-called “vice crimes.” Which I would think are “victimless crimes.” Im curious as to where Hawaii Island’s numbers stand in comparison to other places. The police and local government here most defiantly manipulate the numbers so our stats wont deter tourism, and are not an accurate reflection of what goes on in reality. A big portion of their focus seems to be on outlawed consensual activities rather than violations against the property or physical safety of its citizens, and the environment. The number one cause of criminality is law. The more natural human behaviors outlawed, the more criminality exists.
