Cheers Ray, thanks for sharing the Yongnuo 50mm 1.8, certainly looks a great budget option.

My pleasure, Matt! Definitely worth considering.

Good, straight forward review Ray. The colours look a little flat to me but it is hard to tell on TH-cam. Though when you compared it to the Nikon the colours looked very similar. Shows what I know. One comment though, I don't think the Canucks will be calling you at the trade deadline 🤣

The flat colours are more likely my "style" -- I shoot in Flat profile and rarely switch to anything other than Neutral. In post, I definitely avoid the kind of oversaturated images that seem to be popular. I'm partial to the hospital shot -- that's my kind of colour rendition, probably due to decades of film photography. That being said, I think the Yongnuo lens is not as contrasty.
Alas, my chances of being drafted to the NHL are nil.😀

@@RaymondParkerPhoto Ahhhh okay that explains it. I guess my old eyes were not fooling me.

It seems in the oranges comparison that the Yongnuo is a bit darker as well? Assuming you didn't change the camera settings would that mean the f-stop isn't exactly the same either between these two lenses?
Overall it seems quite capable, wonder how it would do vs the Z 40mm 2.0, which is similar in price. Perhaps it sits in between...being more of a 45mm 1.9...🤭

Yes Marcus. The comparisons are unedited. The Yongnuo has significant vignetting before correction. That's one thing. It is also likely that the apertures are different. I did do a quick comparison to the 40mm 2.0. Maybe a proper look later.

I had one for the DSLR. It was ok, but I didn’t keep it.

Disappointing that the only direct comparison with the Nikkor was on a bowl of fruit with no defined edges, that proved nothing at all, apart from the dramatic difference in FL (which should have been investigated further!). The CA is a dealbreaker for me anyway, and it's not cheap enough to warrant taking a risk. I'll stick with my trusty AFS 50mm with the FTZ (£100 used)
