Given the timescale of the Great Turf War it seems to be her birthday, but it feels like a weirdly clinical way of describing it. Even back then it gave me the impression that maybe the Octoling soldiers were clones. The lower Octarian troops are already established as a more primitive kind of clone (cut tentacles), so it kind of fits. We've already seen the Agent 8 clones in the first teaser, so keeping in mind that color variations are just part of Splatoon cloning, maybe Marina and Acht come from the same batch, this "Gen 83"?

That's why the tips of Dedf1sh's hair are the normal Octarian shade of red instead of it being all blue and green, like the sanitized enemies in Octo Expansion, and it's also why she isn't a zombie, can speak full coherent thoughts, and recalls some of her memories.

I'm confident that the goo that took control of Agent 3 is a sample of the "ultimate lifeform" that Tartar mentions in the cutscene following that fight- operating as a parasitic organism. To my knowledge, it isn't stated how Tartar made the primordial ooze in the first place, but to me it looked like he had some on hand before he even began sanitizing anyone. But I digress. Sanitization is a much different and far more complex process than what what to Agent 3. According to context in-game and in art books, it's more like taking a bath or shower in the primordial ooze solution, usually against one's will, until all proper bodily functions shut down and every bit of their individuality is washed away. Track #8 can be interpretted as Acht's regret over Marina, considering the emphasis on the Calamari Inkantation and how much that song affected Marina. It's very possible Acht regretted not going with her or not spending more time with her. Looking in this context, I feel as though the other songs make more sense. The tenseness of the songs following are due to the results of 3's and Octavio's fight, and Acht trying to fit in despite feeling alone and not really aligning with the Octarians, and #35 is likely when they get taken by Tartar.

And DEDF1SH’s bit of “willingly accepting” sanitization got retconned for some reason. For an OC’s “partial sanitization” backstory Pardon the rambling, during the Octo Expansion days, I made an OC where she was “partially” sanitized. Around 2022, I added to how she lost a big chunk of her memories and zoned out sometimes due the partial effects, reduced perception of senses like feeling texture and pain (so she’s not concerned about getting hurt or splatted a lot of the time), and frustration with not understanding the increased emotional dysregulation
Something I never see people talk about, is that Nintendo put a character from a lore that isn't really shown ingame previously, and introduced her in a simple but servicable way. With a few lines in the trailer, we know she isn't a normal enemy from the previous DLC, and we know she is someone who is sentient and who can talk. There might be people and players that are kinda outside of the splatoon community that would not know anything about dedf1sh. To be honest, I only really know her because of lore videos on youtube.

my theory is that acht was probably set in the sanitized ink (like how agent 8 was in the beginning of octo expansion when we went to choose how we looked), but wasn’t injected with it. in octo expansion, you see thousands of half full IV drip bags on the floor, and some drip bags that nearly have nothing left but residue in the tube connecting to the needle. it’s possible that sanitization has two steps. 1) submerge subject into sanitized ink 2) inject more concentrated ink into their bloodstream injecting is obviously more concentrated, and has the ability to take away your memories. meanwhile bathing in it may cause a change in your skin and hair color overtime-it likely wasn’t a 5 minute process, and it doesn’t seem to have the ability to fully take away one’s memories. Eight’s memories were turned into memcakes, yeah, but we also don’t know what happened to them beforehand. they don’t specify how Eight lost their memories, the customization screen made it look suspiciously like they were in the process of sanitization (or perhaps it’s how they remember things in their mind), and everything is thrown off with a “oh and u hit your head so u have amnesia!” personally, for MY agent 8 (yes i did name him, his name is Pulse and i love him dearly and made a backstory for him), i theorized and headcannoned that once Eight gunned it out of the underground and headed for octo valley as they followed the faint trace of the calimari inkantation, they were first found by sanitized octolings before getting to octo valley and was taken to be sanitized by the order of tartar to capture any cephalopod for sanitization. i headcanoned that they were set to bathe in the sanitized liquid, but when Eight finally came to, they were in the process of injecting the concentrated ink into them, so Eight’s fight or flight reacted and they managed to gtfo of there. they finally reached octo valley, where they were met with cap’n and agent 3, and as they were fighting, that’s when a third party struck and eight fell back down into the darkness. and that’s my theory/fan made agent 8 OC backstory behind agent 8’s memory loss and possible sanitization. compared to acht’s story, it’s possible that she maybe went through the same thing, but they may have done only half a dose for an injection due to how willing she was already, which would logically mean that she’s already exceedingly susceptible to half a dose. to explain how it would work with someone unwilling, it’s likely that the sanitization liquid keeps them asleep, pacified, unconscious and disoriented, so it would be less possible for them to cause a stir and protest.

As a person who follows the lore very heavily, its very likely that her pronouns are most likely still feminine. Nintendo used "they" and "them" in the tweet to set a mood of how mysterious she is. She has been refered to as a girl for the last 6 years. And i feel that people are gonna explode when they find out that she is a girl when its shown in the game. But hey. We have to wait till it releases. I dont care about the change of her gender, it could be good to have a non binary character, but its a shame that people can be blinded from the obvious truth by their beliefs. Great video. Her appearance truly leaves a lot of questioning in the air. She is my favourite splat artist and has been since 2018. I can wait to see the future of the character.

haven’t really dove too deep within side order theories but from what I can gather is that the world side order takes place in is a simulation constructed by marina. a wip construction as the simulation still looks unfinished and glitches. I’m guessing acht and dedfish are two separate entities, acht being part of the simulation and dedfish being real. the real dedfish is probably not around (unsure if alive or not) due to the alterna story mode having a track called #35 caught, which makes it seems like she was infected by the fuzzy ooze in the story mode. idk this is pretty much a shot in the dark.
another guess I have is the reason why dedfish is sanitized in the simulation is due to the probable chance that marina knows acht was sanitized into dedfish but doesn’t know she was later mutated by the fuzzy ooze since off the hook wasn’t around in the alterna story mode

I don't know, it just seems really neat if Marina had constructed the world and Acht as well! The #35 caught track makes me think something happened to them. I know the developers said that the tracks were named after how the song makes you feel, but I think it still has some sort of meaning.
i kinda wish we have male sanitized octoling instead of recurring female octolings because the male octarians we saw are nothing but solidiers/goons/sliced tentacles who didn't appear as citizens on inkopolis square or plaza after splatoon 2. they're like martyrs by music and ink effects. octolings are alive by their sheer luck and spawn points shown on the games.
Simple thing, sanitization only works when applied continuously. Just like Strider and his group in Stalker Call of Pripyat, whom got out of Monolith influence.

haven’t really dove too deep within side order theories but from what I can gather is that the world side order takes place in is a simulation constructed by marina. a wip construction as the simulation still looks unfinished and glitches.
I’m guessing acht and dedfish are two separate entities, acht being part of the simulation and dedfish being real. the real dedfish is probably not around (unsure if alive or not) due to the alterna story mode having a track called #35 caught, which makes it seems like she was infected by the fuzzy ooze in the story mode.
idk this is pretty much a shot in the dark.
another guess I have is the reason why dedfish is sanitized in the simulation is due to the probable chance that marina knows acht was sanitized into dedfish but doesn’t know she was later mutated by the fuzzy ooze since off the hook wasn’t around in the alterna story mode
Very interesting theory and yeah that would make a lot of sense! I really want Acht to be part of some sort of simulation. I don't know, it just seems really neat if Marina had constructed the world and Acht as well!
The #35 caught track makes me think something happened to them. I know the developers said that the tracks were named after how the song makes you feel, but I think it still has some sort of meaning.
i kinda wish we have male sanitized octoling instead of recurring female octolings because the male octarians we saw are nothing but solidiers/goons/sliced tentacles who didn't appear as citizens on inkopolis square or plaza after splatoon 2. they're like martyrs by music and ink effects. octolings are alive by their sheer luck and spawn points shown on the games.
Simple thing, sanitization only works when applied continuously. Just like Strider and his group in Stalker Call of Pripyat, whom got out of Monolith influence.

My theory: Someone made a theory that Commander Tartar was in the final picture of Dedf1sh in Marina’s Dev Diaries. Maybe Tartar overheard how they struggled and promised them that their mind would be clear because of the sanitization? This comment was inspired by a character in a horror game that I like that has a similar backstory

@@JapanOctoWarrior originally back in spaltoon 2, Deadfish was assigned as she/her. So I personally would just stick with that. I think Nintendo was trying to just be mysterious with Desdfish because she has a new name: Acht. We have to wait until the dlc comes out though
