To be honest, I found this a weird matchup. Both are faces of their franchise, but other than that, they differ greatly in moveset and as characters.

That is the main point. They're both the faces of their franchise. I mean Mario and Sonic are vastly different, doesn't stop people from putting them up against each other. Sometimes history is all you need for matchup.

@@yuuhyakuya3863 I'd say it's not the best example, especially compared to Mario vs Sonic who have a vastly superior depiction of rivalry over the years. Faces of their own franchise in fighting games is a pretty shallow connection level even for older battle.

There's an old animation (17 years old actually) by a TH-camr named avut between these two in their respective video game fighting styles. You guys should check it out. It's got 5M views and it was fairly popular when it came out. It's even got a sequel and everything. It's really dope.
