I wonder how the show would have been had Mr. Wendall remained the Legendary Audience Warm-Up person. They seemed to remove the live version of him when the show moved to CBS. Thank-You for sharing. This was an exciting time in BROADCAST Late Night Television.
55 was the law in NY and PA, 65 on rural interstates in most states. Garfield and Friends was still on CBS, and Full House was still on ABC, both in their last season. Alan Kalter wasn't the announcer yet, baseball went on strike, MJ was on hiatus from the NBA, and played baseball, WCIU 26 was on its last days as a spanish language network (Univision) before moving to WGBO 66, and WCIU becoming an independently owned English broadcasting station.
At this point in Letterman's show, CBS Mailbag would be aired on Thursday episodes. The segment would not move to Friday episodes until the commercial-free program on Sept. 20, 1996.

This is the best version of the Letterman theme. Punchy. Upbeat.
I always liked the first stage set the Ed Sullivan Theatre had, the way it was on the night of this show!
R.I.P to David Letterman.

I wonder the show would've changed had it been shot in LA? Thoughts?

What was it that somebody handed to him?
A package of meat. Meat as a subject, was one of his signature comedy bits
Letterman's humor is so old schoo
OMG I bet that soup is the best soup in New York. Or.... It's ramen noodles from the break room.
