I used to try a get my dad to listen to game music, I tried everything but he never really enjoyed them or he'd get bored eventually, but one day I had the OT1 ost cd on while he was out, he came back just as the last couple of tracks were finishing on the disc. Once the disc ended I was like "I'll turn it off want me to put anything on?" And I'll never forget when he said "it's alright you can put more of that on" I was shocked I absolutely love the OT ost and to see him enjoy it too was just amazing. Unfortunately he passed away before the second game came out but I like to think he'd love it just as much as the first one
For me it was genshin ost.. i remember one day the Bluetooth speaker turning on by themself playing genshin ost.. i was panicking i thought my genshin ost playlist played by accident and i hurriedly trying to open my phone to turn it off.. wait.. it's not my phone- i run outside just to see my dad chilling on the sofa with his phone just enjoying the ost.. like "what the heck, dad??? U know genshin?" .. he was like "what do you mean? I'm just listening to my instrument only playlist" 🗿 and he still listening to them till this day
The feeling of wonder, happiness and pure joy that OT main theme has brought me was incredible, and the second game made an extraordinary improvement to that feeling. As some comments already said, it is one of these songs I can hear on repeat all day. It's adventure, companionship, excitement, wonder and joy all in one musical piece.
There's actually two versions of Octopath 2's main theme there's a night and day variation, you listened to the day version. Also, will you ever do each of the main individual character themes? they're all so unique to each other and really tells what kinda person they are
Yeeeeeeeeeess, Octopath! Octopath has one of my favorite OSTs from a modern RPG, and just newer games in general. Yasunori Nishiki absolutely killed it with this game and I hope he keeps getting more work 'cause I adore his style. I'd even go as far to say he could be the next Uematsu, honestly.
This game is a leitmotif wet dream. I love all the variations on it that happens throughout the game. Also, shout-out my boys CYRUS and OSWALD!!! I love them so much!
Not going to lie, sometimes I click onto videos of yours just to see you enjoy the music! You always have such expressive face when you listen to music.Anyway, absolutely love Octopath Traveller games and their music, thanks for covering it!
This game and its theme saved me emotionally, as well as my love for video games. I had pre-ordered the game and was excited to play it; however, before it came out, my wife had expressed the desire for a divorce. We started going through the divorce, and I picked up the game and didn't play it or any games. It was like in the Pixar movie Inside Out, where the islands of personality died; everything was grey. A few months down the road, I was at my parent's getting ready for a D&D game. I was running at their house, and I put the game in and put it on the TV while I was prepping. As I walk around I hear the theme and stop and just cry. It was so fun and adventurous it ignited that spark in me that had been dead for months. So I played the game, and I loved it.
octopaths music is truly incredible. when i first heard the theme it made me so emotional. the music in both games is just incredible, and it made playing through the games feel that much more special.
The part in OT2 where it swells up to the main theme and then hits always makes me strangely emotional. It’s so gorgeous. I can’t comprehend how this soundtrack isn’t nominated for GOTY awards.
Honestly I love the work of Yasunori Nishiki on those games, and I'd love to see him score even more games. There's something about his style that just work so well for me. From building adventurous hymns to epic boss themes that almost sound like they could fit a final boss... and then final bosses themes themselves that end up even more mindblowing. Having him arrange "One Winged Angel - Rebirth" for FF7 Remake was definitely a choice I was happy with. The orchestral renditions of his tracks always feel so... complete, to me? Focusing on the underlayers and figuring out the small touches and flourishes here and there makes it very fun for me to listen to his work again and again. I also can't tell how much I love the fact that they go all the way with orchestrating the Octopath scores, it's just wonderful. I hope the upcoming concerts will be a world tour! If you intend on going forward with Octopath soundtrack analysis Marco, aside from the character themes I also recommend lending an ear to the tracks for the various regions, and then afterwards the ending theme. Let's just say talking about variations and leitmotivs goes a long way there. 😁
Thankfully he seems to have a recurring gig with Konami working on Master Duel. It wasn't immediately announced that he did the music but I could tell instantly.
The Octopath OST climbed its way to my personal favorite game OST immediately upon release of the original game! I remember being blown away by the character themes and how they have specific instruments associated with them. 1 and 2's (And even the mobile's) OST's are still played regularly...I adore them!
YYYEESSSS, nice, Octopath Traveler has its music meticulously crafted, glad you enjoyed this representative one. Other musics conveys stories and characters if you would like to listen to more, and definitely check out the boss themes with specific character transitions, those are prime examples of different OSTs connecting with each other, certainly something interesting.
@@MarcoMeatball if you're able to, maybe you'd like to give a try to some pieces and themes from Octopath Traveler 2, not only the main ones, because it's a true delight for the ears. Also you're amazing, I love what you do and I want to give you a hug.
Octopath Traveler 1 and 2 are such fantastic games. Especially 2. But the music in both is top tier. OT2 is one of my favorite turn based rpgs. It shoved chrono trigger out of my top 5.
I've done cassette beast and ff16 this year ( you should do cassette beast the soundtracks are incredible )and my music award still go to octo 2 honestly xD
"Octopath Traveler" straight up has the best music in a video game I have heard since the NES first came out. I cannot describe just how much the music in this game moved me while playing. I have collected all of the released CD soundtracks (including OT: Champions of the Continent & OT2), the arrangement CDs, a blu-ray of the live concert, and a music box of the main theme. And then there is the actual game merch. 😉 My personal favorite track is the Ending theme from OT1, which is a marathon arrangement for the overworld music capped off by the main theme. Leaves me in tears... every damn time.
I just replayed octopath traveller and wondered if you did a review of the awesome music. You do not dissapoint. You sir are a whole ass vibe when listening to great game music.
battle at journey’s end and for the dawn are both among my favorite tracks in their respective games, which is Saying A Lot given how many fantastic songs there are to choose from lmao
I'd love to hear your thoughts on each of the character themes. They all are veeery distinct to each character and what they're all about. I remember you saying you've played Octopath Traveler 1 but idk if you've played 2 yet. Either way each games character themes are phenomenal.
I bought this game because I loved the music. I randomly found it on Spotify and was like “Wow, what is this? I NEED to have it”. After over 20h of playing I have 0 regrets
OMG! I didn't really expect this games music will be featured here because Octopath 1 was released some few years ago! And I just finished the game 2 days ago and it was a wonderful and epic experience. The first time I booted the game the main theme greeted me and just blew my mind already because it is still on the menu and also The battle, the music, the story and everything! I can proudly say that it is one of the gems of JRPG's out there! I'm still saving for Octopath 2 and can't wait to experience those feelings again and of course its music. And also, if you can read this Marco, hoping you will also listen to Galdera's battle OST. The opera singer there did an amazing job it was so hyped battle with the music in constant loop.
Bro.. i remember watching some video on youtube and this ads came up.. i want to skip it just like i usually do.. but hol'up a sec.. what the heck is this ost.. it slapped so hard i watched it till the end and instantly drop the videi to search for the ost on youtube and downloaded it.. 😂 gosh epic ost
I love octopath traveler so much!! I hope you react to some songs from the first and second game! The second game has some of the best bangers I have ever heard and the character themes (before boss battles too) are a chefs kiss!! What I live about the second game ost as well is that a lot of the themes have a day and night version of which I really like that the night themes are very recognizable because of vocals
There’s something magical about the night themes in Octopath 2, not to mention the boss themes ofc, so hopefully you check some of them out and can explain to me why I like them 😊
Octopath's ost makes me feel like I'm riding a horses through a lush green grassy field in a fantastical adventure world. I can almost feel the galloping through the beat of the song. The first feels like the start of an adventure but the second feels like the climax of the story.
OT2 sounds like it was recorded in a bigger room, so while that was obviously a logistical choice - it always resonated with me as OT2 is also a biger game being almost twice the file size of the original, which lead to me going "Holy crap, what are they gonna throw at us now?"
Oh will you in the future maybe go through the vaiour leitmotifs of the octopath characters and how they lead into the bossfight themes? that would be really fun. Both for 1 and 2, I tihink the themes for the different characters are more distinct in octopath traveler 2.
You can add all pre-boss themes together, and they fit beautifully. Someone did that, then mixed the result with the final boss' two themes. For everything + the one they call a witch + daughter of the dark god.
Randomly stumbled on your channel. It's pretty interesting to explore the content you do. Thanks. as a side note, when it comes to different track variations, I hope at some point you'll take a look at the OST of the Blasphemous game. For example different versions of Baile de Violetas manage to deliver both similar and yet different mood. But I'm sure you'll find plenty of things a casual listener might not. gl hf
Yasunori nishiki is a freaking genius Even in the mobile game the soundtracks are incredible i love that guy Probably my favorite composer with soken and go shiina
The fact OT2 didn’t even get a nomination for best OST at the Game Awards this year is an absolute sham. I don’t have much respect for it anymore, even more so after they snubbed Xenoblade Chronicles 3 last year for God of War. I love both variations of these songs. But II’s has a level of epicness and a sense “the parties only started”. It gives me massive goosebumps listening to it as it peaks. Awesome. 🤩
Now I also prefer the arrangement of the second game, and I have not played the next game yet. Alex Moukala channel has a very good review on the OST. I am fond of the song titled Determination, I remember searching years ago on japanese here on yt to be able to find the official track.
Octopath music is great. The main theme is wonderful and the OT2 character themes were so poignant to each of their adventures. but "Those who deny the dawn" and "Song of Hope" from OT2 really took it to the next level.
you must listen "Brother" & "The Night" from A Plague Tale : Requiem. It's a beautiful french game (yes i love my country). And when i was playing the game, when the music comes, i was crying.. hello Marco, a recommendation for the theme of Narwa all mother and Ibushi, it's wonderful if you'll love it, there's even a unique version of proof of a hero.
Why is it that by chance I bought both Octopath Traveler games and now suddenly you happen to make a video of it?! It's scary but I love it! Also I'm really curious what you wound think about the Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous main theme! Which is a game I also picked up again this weekend to try and finish my first campaign. Love you and love what you do Marco!
Elder Scrolls is a great example of this. Everybody knows the Skyrim version as the Dragonborn theme, but it's the same song from 3 and 4 modified to fit the mood of the game.
Others have mentioned it, but you should definitely check out OT: CotC (the mobile game). It does have the OT theme but I feel like it is overall a more unique piece when compared to the main sequence games.
octopath 2's main theme is just as good compositionally wise maybe even better but I def prefer the mix of 1, the melody comes out better and its less muffled
1:10 I got an ad right as the theme was supposed to start and it was for some Japanese rhythm game and I was like: hmmm I don’t remember Hatsune Miku signing Octopath Traveler’s main theme 🤔
To this day, whenever I hear the OPT1 OST Main Theme, I can vividly remember where I was when I first heard this powerful piece of music. As a musician, and an avid orchestral fan, I would give just about anything to be a part of an orchestra playing music from Octopath Traveler 1. To this day, it's still my favorite OST of all time for a video game, and I will never not listen to it when I have the chance. That being said, It's an interesting difference between OTP1 and OTP2 in terms of main theme, while they are the same basic theme, instrumentation changes drastically, and 2 seems a lot darker? There's not as much bright vivid sound of the brass and piccolo like in the first one. Honestly, I did not like the sound of the second as much as the first.
When Octopath Traveler's music comes up, I always think about the 2018 Game Awards, and how Red Dead 2 won Best Score. The only tune that I remember from that game is the goofy-ass Let's Build a House song. Meanwhile, Octopath's entire soundtrack has been living in my brain rent-free for years. I'm still angry about it.
some random OT COTC ads popped up in my short so i checked out the game what it's about. unfortunately not my type of game but i heard there was pc version of this game. OT2 looks interesting and hopefully the gameplay is not too grindy because i only interested on its music and story
I'd absolutly love to hear what you, an opera singer, have to say about octopath traveler's Daughter of the dark god theme. It's absolutly stunning you can trust me !
I wouldn't ask to review a cover, but I think you should compare FFXIV Scream OST with Skar's cover. Skar, Husky and Kristin totally owns this song and brings so much to the song.
Octopath Traveler was the game that made me buy a Nintendo Switch, unfortunately I didn't finish the game, the music was godlike but the plot and pacing were just not for me, music is an absolute 10
The Octopath Traveler main theme single-handedly got me to buy the game
For me not only the game but the switch as well
Octopath Traveler, SMT V and Xenoblade 2 did they trick for me
I bought it again when it went to PC lmao
Likewise
Same. And I did not regret it.

Will you be doing character themes for Octopath 2? they’re so good! 🎉
Probably?
some random OT COTC ads popped up in my short so i checked out the game what it's about.
unfortunately not my type of game but i heard there was pc version of this game.
OT2 looks interesting and hopefully the gameplay is not too grindy because i only interested on its music and story
オクトパストラベラーの音楽好きです。
I have something new for ya:
On the road from Payday 2 Crude Awakening
The final heist before payday 3
Please tell me your video on varriatons of a theme is gonna be on melodies of life from FF9.
Well like why not use the theme that already make people that have heard to a different structure yeah i love it
Would love for you to listen to Sonic Frontiers ost like Find your flame or Undefeatable, These are absolute banger of a song
I must say, I hear Mario Galaxy Music here 😂
I'd absolutly love to hear what you, an opera singer, have to say about octopath traveler's Daughter of the dark god theme. It's absolutly stunning you can trust me !
He actually already did a video for that :))
@@wanton9958 oh well thank you, I'll watch this
I wouldn't ask to review a cover, but I think you should compare FFXIV Scream OST with Skar's cover. Skar, Husky and Kristin totally owns this song and brings so much to the song.
Fire 🔥
finally octopath
More music theory knowledge thank you
More to come!
What happens when the variant is actually worse than the original? Or in this case, the variant doesn't hit like the original
People implode and vomit and riot in the streets…or nothing happens. And it disappears.
Octopath Traveler was the game that made me buy a Nintendo Switch, unfortunately I didn't finish the game, the music was godlike but the plot and pacing were just not for me, music is an absolute 10
我最爱的游戏音乐
Monster Hunter is the same way with proof of a hero 😂

Funnily enough I always associate this song with Genshin because I first heard it in a Genshin video (Outlander.exe 2 by Chisaki Works)
Ah second game music good. This drms and piano together makes my heart warm.
