    ‎ After clearing out all the mini tubs in his fish room, Cory is now focused on working on the 40-gallon breeder tanks one by one. In the first tank, he decorated it with chicken bone rock and lots of cryptocoryne plants. Later on, he plans to modify the lid to make room for mounting the auto feeder.
    🌿 Try Easy Green - the easiest, all-in-one fertilizer on the market! Also wanted to add that I really appreciate the discussion on the difference between “aquascaping” and thanks that have “plants for fish”. Both of these are worthwhile hobbies, but it helps to understand that they are Different hobbies. This understanding would have saved me hundreds in both plants AND fish! Now I have separate tanks for each and we are all happy! 😊

    I learn so much from these style videos!! You are a great teacher Cory! I'm a science teacher and inherited 4 tanks when the last science teacher left. They went totally overboard with the filters and never did water changes. I don't know how the fish survived, the nitrates were so high in all the tanks. Your videos have helped me problem-solve and slowly reduce the number of filters. I've slowly been adding live plants (think all plastic plants, colored gravel, and pirate ship decorations everywhere). The fish are doing great and I've been able to fine-tune the communities. THANK YOU!!

    You sound so much happier now! The curiosity and wonder about nature is back in your voice. As well as the wish for others to have the same experience. The tanks giving energy instead of eating it up, beautiful. And you lead the "how to create a good habitat for yourself"- life- knowledge - journey by example. Showing we all have to adjust, move, change on all of our ongoing journeys that is life. It's genuin and fluffing brilliant! You gave me a big smile watching your video today. I love the updates and ideas, you invite us all to join you, to visit you and your fish room. Thank you!

    Can't wait to see how you set up the feeders. are you planning on making them all uniform on the left, or right, sides of the tanks or are you going to stagger them in order to save space? For instance in the same gap between tanks you could service the tank on the left and the tank on the right from the gap if you have one feeder forward of the rubber strip and one behind it. Same number of pieces of glass needing to be cut but saves horizontal shelf space.

      @Trains-With-Shane ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AquariumCoop Understood. by my calculations it's only a total difference of roughly 2-ish feet of total gap vs 4-ish feet so not a huge difference but could be meaningful depending on the space available.

    • @mathetesdzoes
      @mathetesdzoes ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will ultimately depend on your philosophy of husbandry. Oftentimes, people mix incompatible practices and get frustrated because they don't see the results/benefits that they intended. If you test for Zero ammonia, Zero ni•trite•s, and something around 80ppm of Ni•trAte•s then, in most cases, you will not be harming your fish, will be able to support good plant growth, and can reduce your water changes/gravel vac-ing to some extent.
      Animal waste is not exactly formulated or balanced for plant growth, so it is possible to have a good supply of ni•trAte•s while still being deficient in other trace elements, especially if you only feed one type of food. So, some supplemental fertilizer may still be required. Additionally, whenever you trim your plants you will be indirectly removing ni•trAte•s that fueled the plant growth as well as some trace elements. It is not a closed system. In essence, you might replace some gravel vac-ing and end up trimming more.
      Some people never gravel vac, ever, nor do they perform water changes. If the tank is mature and plant & animal life is balanced this could work while maintaining the health of the animals, but eventually one type of plant will predominate more than another, or holes will appear in the leaves, or ni•trAte•s will climb well over 100 and pH might drop a little, etc. There Will be Something that needs maintenance or adjustment, even if it is not often.
      You could learn about Dutch and Walstad methods, deep substrate method, anoxic plenums, under gravel filters, sumps, refugiums, canister, hang-on-back, internal, sponge, moving bed filters, etc. Some of these are dedicated philosophies that need to be understood and followed in order to experience the touted benefits and maintain the welfare of the inhabitants. Some are merely tools that could be employed in numerous set-ups with various philosophies.
      IMHO, well thought out, simple, low-tech approaches are most enjoyable and sustainable for most people.

      Mostly people like to clean cause it feels good and it triggers there "i'm helping" system. The reality is, people are changing water too frequently, and gravel vaccing too often in planted tanks. I only gravel vac if the substrate was starting to compact, or I need to show it for a video. Honestly I clean sponge filters, and gravel vac infrequently. Many tanks go at least a year between sponge cleaning, and up to 2 or 3 years between gravel vaccing. For instance, Ladybird's tank hasn't been gravel vacced in probably 5 years. But I have fish that help get some of the mulm into filters to be removed and such.

    I got all my rock from an old mine shaft (quarts) and the rest came from the creek behind my house...or out of fields.
    They all look store bought and didn't cost me anything and no garbage to throw out
