Congratulations on 100 great reviews! The Nikka From The Barrel was the perfect whisky to celebrate with, since it is most importantly available without looking on the secondary markets. Cheer to getting 200 reviews and enjoying incredible whisk(e)y and of course this whisk(e)y community!

I know it’s been 4 years, so I know you didn’t quit the channel, and I’m glad you’re still here. I trust your taste buds the most out there. I love the format, the length of your video’s, and if I’m looking for a review for a specific whisky, I’m scrolling to see if you have one before I click on any other. Yes. Even Ralfy.

Congratulations on your 100th! This wasn't an easy find in San Francisco, as it won Whisky Advocate's Whisky of the Year, and the place has more than its share of drinkers (who know who won Whisky Advocate's Whisky of the Year). I found it in a wine shop in a neighborhood I used to live in, paid a premium (they also knew who won Whisky of the Year), cracked it open, and started watching your review. It was a lot of fun. Thanks.

Hi Bill , congratulations of episode 100 :) , whew , and thanks for not giving up , your channel is really helpful , I am truly looking forward to your 200th review !! .
As for what I was mentally tasting by looking at the color , my first impression was smoke , followed by wood and peat , similar to a Scotch.
Simply because he was trained in Scottish whisky , and because knowing Japanese culture I can guarantee there is zero coloring added.
It could also sense there would be no sweetness like a bourbon. When I first nosed WR it was { is } sweet , with a touch of smoke. Upon my very first taste I remember being blown away , it was like re-visiting an old penny candy store .
What came to mind first was the old General Store in Sudbury Mass ( I just googled it and could not find it ) it was one of the last remaining real penny candy stores , you could walk in there and with 25 cents come up with a bag of candy , like Dots on paper / Squirrel Nuts / Root Beer barrels , Peanut Logs , Hot Bombs , all the stuff only a kid and a dentist could love !! LOL , but that is where my first taste took me , all the way back to the late 60`s driving to Sudbury with some friends , my favorite was the old peanut logs !! Maybe that is why I have taken a liking to Woodford Reserve , because it triggered such fun times !!
O__ and it was a great review , I just wanted to let you in on what I thought when I had my first nosing and tasting of WR , and where it took me.
Bill , so glad you are not giving up the ship !! Good Man , stay the course . Please stay safe during the storm that should hit in about 4 hours , it`s about 45 min. from Albany and the Berkshires will slow it down , but not by much. so figure around 9:00 pm it should be coming down at a fair rate , probably I will wake up to about 8" in my town , closer to Boston a real wet mess , then bundle up , a freeze will hit us on Monday.
OK :) My review and weather forecast LOL , Take care , Gary 

Bill, Good choice for # 100. I've enjoyed the Nikka Coffey Grain but at a price of $65 to 70, don't think I'll go for another. I think some of the Irish are as good if not better at around $4 to 50.
This From the Barrel is now over $75 around here. I may try a glass but not looking to buy a bottle at this time. The higher proof sounds interesting. Surprised that the many Japanese drink these (and blended scotch) with soda and lots of ice and may miss the subtleness of these whiskys . KEEP ON GOING!! Cheers.

Glad you chose to keep going, there's alot more delicious and interesting whiskeys out there ☺ The Japanese are very interesting and particular about alot of things. They seem to take alot of existing ideas and try to improve or perfect them, many people may not think about this when they hear "Japanese whiskey" but in many ways the Japanese have taken it to a whole new level. I had the opportunity to try a bottle of Hibiki 18 and it was amazing, I'm looking forward to trying the 21 if I can ever get my hands on it but needless to say the Japanese whiskey is often overlooked but well worth it when you find it 😉🤑👍

At 65 bucks you're paying double the MSRP. You can find it even a bit less than 35EUR in EU. And last time I was in Japan, I got a bottle from a convenient store (not even the cheapest place) for roughly 30 bucks. At that price this whiskey tastes better and becomes a steal :)

That's funny you say that.. there have been in my opinion very few rare whiskies that I've reviewed. I think it's why my channel is as big as it is.
That being said, im glad you're back. any suggestions?

Do you think this is as good as the coffee grain by Nikka?

What’s the deal with putting that chip on top of the glass? What’s it supposed to do?

    • @TheWhiskeyDictionary
      @TheWhiskeyDictionary  6 ปีที่แล้ว

The "Whiskey Hat" (slightly larger poker chip) goes on top of the glass and keeps the alcohol vapors from evaporating so when you're sitting around and nosing your whisky, it's not disappearing. The biggest thing though is that they are for sale (you can find info about them in the description or e-mail me thewhiskeydic@gmail.com if you want more info. It's a tangible way to support the channel!

I find the taste to mimic the nose. Lots of fresh fruit, ripe fruit, Asian fruit like Rambutan. A flower garden of exotic flowers. Honey and brown sugar. Extremely complex. Slight tannins, dark chocolate, coffee and very light delicious wood notes on long, lingering finish. A superb dram. Are your taste buds maybe burnt from yesterdays live stream? Maybe give it a week and redo you taste and update us. Or is that all you get, wood?

I'm getting addicted to the stuff I'm afraid... Nikka from the barrel is very, very good value for the money.
