Great job, this video has helped me understand the brake system on my STX38!

I bought a used STX38 It took some wiring work to get it to start, once I did I began cutting my grass. I found out I did not have any brakes when I attempted to stop & hit my van. I watched the video, then attempted to remove the right rear wheel. It would not budge I sprayed lubricant, no help, beat on the rim from the back side nothing. Yesterday I went to Harbor Freight & bought a 8" 3 armed puller. I had to take the tire off the rim, then it took me 3 hours of constant cranking to move the rim about 5" to get the wheel off! There was a heavy coating of crusty rust on the shaft & inside the rim. The wheel must not ever been off before. I will be sanding & wire brushing today.

You can also drill holes through the rim close to the hub at 3:00 & 9:00 and use threaded rod or bolts with a plate puller to pull off a stuck rim. They can be a challenge. I have a Troy Bilt Horse Tiller with stuck wheels. I've been using it for 8 years without the locking pins in the hubs. They still have not broken free. Best of Luck..................

thank you so much for this. I changed my main drive belt and suddenly my brake/clutch wasn't working. I checked all the forums and found very little. You (hopefully) just solved my issue. I love my stx38. someone gave it to me for free because the modern fuel clogged the gas breather. lol.

I spent the past hour or so trying to figure out what i was doing wrong to keep the brakes from engaging. I had stripped the brakes down, cleaned the pins in the caliper, replaced the pads, put it all back together, nothing. I adjusted and readjusted. I found and watched your video; I still couldn't figure out what was wrong other than not using brake grease. Finally, it dawned on me that I was spinning both tires (something I had even previously knew was an issue). I rewatched your video, and sure enough there it is plain as day "left rear wheel needs to be immobilized." Sigh. Anyways thanks for the video. I'll get some brake grease tomorrow just to get it working as well as I can.

Did you even watch your video before posting? Please do before posting anything else. Couldn't really see what you all were doing. Adjust camera.
