I recently came across a beautiful antique book shop on a day trip to London and bought my first antique book- an 1890s edition of Little Women with a note in the front showing it was a Christmas present to someones niece in 1897! Its green and gold and so stunning!
A little princess is my most favourite book of all time. I read it when I was about 12 and it completely changed my whole life, taught me how to truly make the most of my imagination, and I genuinely do believe in the messages of the book. A quote that really gets me through is "The worst thing never quite happens" which I mean to take there is always magic x
I look at your mini-library and I become nostalgic. I had one like that while at university and miss it so much. Had to give it up when I finished my degree and moved countries. But I have to admit that I’m working on getting another one currently. This time around the bookcase is in my living room, it’s filled to the brim and I’m thrilled. I do keep some wooden crates in my room full of my favorite books too. Odd question but, does anyone else enjoy opening and smelling their books? I love doing that. 😅❤️

I was a dedicated bookworm in elementary school but pretty much stopped reading due to youtube, video games and the internet in general. But in the last couple of years I've been slowly getting back into it and your videos are such a big inspiration, they just make me want to read and also make me interested in genres and authors I wouldn't have considered otherwise. Thanks for putting yourself out there, you are very motivating and put me on a better track :)
A Little Princess is my absolute favourite too! I was only able to get a copy of my own as an adult when they finally made a new Finnish edition, but I don't love the cover of it. I've been searching for a very specific edition that my local library carried because it feels oddly important to have it. I've been browsing antiquarian bookshops and library book sales for years! It's funny, it is the story that matters of course, but I was 7 when I first read the book and it's such a big part of my childhood that I feel like I need to have it.
I have to make an update on this, because after I made this comment, I went online to see if I could find out which edition the book I wanted was and I found a used book shop online that carried it! It just got delivered to me! A Little Princess was also my mum's favourite book growing up and she's been sad she lost her copy as a teen, because she would have wanted to give it to me. Today I found out that the edition she had was the same one I just got, which makes it even more precious. ❤️

I love your bookshelves & all of your beautiful books!! I live in California & about 3 years ago happened upon a website called ThriftBooks.com. I liked that most of the hardbound books if over a year old are under $5.00 and in pristine condition. (you can choose the condition & lesser quality costs less) So, I’ve ordered close to 75, maybe more, but the very best part is that I’ve found treasures in the books. Notes, outlines, bookmarks & receipts. It’s so much fun to find these bits that the previous reader left behind. I bet the books found in charity shops might have the same. We moved to a new town & it has a used bookstore. I was eager to check it out, but well Covid. I hope they are able to keep the store, because I’m hoping to spend lots of time in there when it opens. Thanks for sharing your books & set up with us!

Ahhhhh I loved this tour Ruby! It's making me miss my job a lot since, at the start of this year before the lockdown, I was working in an antiquarian bookshop and book bindery. It was amazing to experience the collections of old, modern and rare texts from across the years. Definitely recommend it!
I loved this video so much! I haven't accumulated many books because I seemed to give most of my childhood books to charity (not sure why?!😐) but I'm building up a collection with my partner now, we have 2 shelves of books currently, an additional 2 shelves are purely for his work related non-fiction. It's lovely knowing I shall keep every book I own from now on so that my future children can practically have a home library🧡
Ruby, I'd highly recommend an ergonomic laptop stand for your laptop :) The top of your laptop should be around directly in front of your eyes, so if you're looking downwards to use your laptop it's not good for your neck in the long run Also trust me you'll notice it feels way more comfortable to have your laptop on a stand and using a keyboard and mouse :)
Seeing Love Aubrey up there made me so excited! I found that book on the self of my English teacher in a pile of lost property when I forgot to bring a book to school. Fell in LOVE with it and is one of my favourite books still to this day! Loved this video, it was great to reminisce over so many great books :)

I love the history of old books too! In my book cupboard, I collect old books and so far, I’ve got a English-Greek lexicon from 1864 and it has inscriptions from previous owners, I also have an old copy of the Stories From the Arabian Nights with an inscription from 1920 and I have 2 very old and very large bibles that I found in the loft when cleaning and recently, my mom’s friend gave me his old copy from 1930 of the complete works of Shakespeare!
Oh my gosh I didn't know you had ever read Love, Aubrey! I remember in middle school I saw it on the shelf and I've never read a book where the main character had my name so I of course checked it out. It's been so long since I've read it but I remember being amazed by it and loving it that I'd check it out continuously throughout the year, I'm so glad you've read it!
