Luca Stricagnoli explains his 3-neck Serracini guitar - "Feel Good, Inc." at 210 Live, Highwood, IL

  • "CandyRat Records Night" 2018-05-16: As Luca Stricagnoli plays several pieces on a conventional guitar, the triple-neck guitar built for him by Italian luthier Davide Serracini is clearly visible on a stand behind him. When he finally picks it up, it gets a big reaction even before he plays anything. As he lifts it, he makes a show of how heavy it is, and as he's starting to strap it onto his leg, he says, "I know what you're thinking... Why??" And then he proceeds to explain why three necks as a prelude to playing "Feel Good, Inc." by GorillaZ. For a look at a memorably different way that Luca uses this three-neck guitar, see also "Luca Stricagnoli describes figuring out 'Misirlou' at 210 Live, Highwood, IL" - • Luca Stricagnoli descr... Talent is only 5%. Talent doesn't make him that insanely good. Passion does. Passion let him spend thousands of thousands of thousands of hours with his guitars during training. Only passion doesn't let him bored during all this training time. Passion makes proffessionalism. Not talent.

He can play so many instruments and so many guitars at the same time! If that's not talent, I don't know what is. If someone naturally born with that much talent and be passionate at the same time, you'll get Luca Stricagnoli.

Since the main vibrating mass of the string is on the end off the body, it doesn't have as much of an effect than if it was the regular orientation. does it have an electric pickup on the other end, or does it just work out with a separate pickup in the body cavity?

The interesting guitar in the right background of the video is a harp guitar, which has an extra unfretted neck strung with heavier gauge "harp" strings that provide deep bass accompaniment. The guitar belongs to Calum Graham, the other guitarist who was playing the Candyrat Records Night concert at 210 Live that night. Calum is a fantastic Canadian fingerstylist who is even a bit younger than Luca. If you'd like to hear Calum playing this guitar, try "Farewell" (th-cam.com/video/ihGwsuZObys/w-d-xo.html) or "Nomad" (th-cam.com/video/zWvoNqd6XQ0/w-d-xo.html), which gives a good look at the guitar. (You might need headphones or audio output better than a phone speaker to hear the low harp notes.) Calum's "Maelstrom" video is not harp guitar, but it showcases a wonderful more recent piece in an eye-popping setting at Yosemite National Park (th-cam.com/video/F3_Yhybv_YE/w-d-xo.html). The harp guitar was built by DL Noble of West Richland, Washington, who has something of a specialty in building harp guitars and even harp ukeleles (dlnobleguitars.com/).
