    CORRECTION: The Thermoneutronic projector DOESN'T auto-hit at range, so is perhaps better placed on a commander. Apologies for the error!

    So give them 1 burst cannon and 1 flamer, and they are the same points as an aggressor. The fight a lot worse but then aggressors rarely make combat. But they can move double the distance, fly, have an extra wound, shoot in combat, the support system you choose, and free deepstrike. You'd also have statistically better shooting with the s5 on burst cannon and d6+2 on the flamer.

      Forgive me for a newbie question (I’m getting back into 40k since years), but I’ve seen about the place people putting a big emphasis on running things in 6 model squads, what’s the reason behind that? ObSec?

    • @lorenzobodei8634
      @lorenzobodei8634 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@GravJoeGaming they don't have obsec. I run them in 6 model unit because most of the buffs characters give can affect only one unit. By Making bigger units you can get the best effect. For example in my opinion one unit of six is better than two of three because you can have 6 models with fnp and you can reroll all hitrolls and wound rolls. When you run units you are not willing to buff with stratagems or characters It's better to organize them in smaller units so your opponent has more targets and he needs to splitfire.

    I run a squad of 6 crisis suits each with a flamer and a plasma rifle. The I split it into 2 groups of three. 3 suits get the EWO and a missile pod, 3 suits get the shield generator and a fusion blaster. 2 suits that got the fusion blaster will also receive Iridium suits. I think my one grump about the new Codex (aside from a continued criminal underuse of the auxiliaries), is the lack of characters. I haven't gotten my copy of the book yet, but near as I can tell, you've only got 5 "heroes," 3 of which are tied to the Tau sept, 1 for Enclaves, and only 1 floater for everyone else :(
    I really feel like like could have given at least 1 more Battlesuit hero as a floater, maybe with abilities based around the other lesser known combat strategies other than the big 2. Other than that, can't wait to get a game in!

    So, with increased cost for duplicate weapons, you are less inclined to go triple fusion blaster combo. It soft-forces you into taking multiple battlesuits with varied loadout each.
    So basically - specialised battlesuits are going to be the thing of the past, except for specific models with pre-determined loadouts perhaps.

    • @davidgantenbein9362
      @davidgantenbein9362 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I read a thread about loadouts, where people were more inclined to do 2+1 loadouts and still go focused task (there are usually two weapons available with a similar type of target). Basically most of them thought that the slight increase in price for the second weapon was not that bad and only the third one was unacceptable.

    • @jek_si2251

  • @venkelos6996
    @venkelos6996 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know I'm not the only one, but I have to say that, of the Tau range, Crisis Suits are some of my favorite things. Back when I considered getting to play/run FFG's Rogue Trader or Deathwatch, I invented about a half dozen Tau NPCs, to use as antagonists, and really only one wasn't a Shas'O, in a Crisis Suit. I'm proud to say most of them were even buildable in the tabletop game (7e), though optimizing for that isn't the same as optimizing for the RPG. It is a shame, though, that you can't make a custom Shadowsun build, since her armor is different.
    And here's my pointless Guard bit. I enjoyed this video because it shows the value of really sitting down, tricking out your Mantle of the Hero, deciding what role(s) you want it to fill, and getting the most out of it. I just wish/hope that IG would get the same; HQs who are more than bare bones Order engines you almost never consider upgrading, except to make a Tank Commander. It would also be nice if Astra Militarum got a unit with the Bodyguard ability, so it's Characters could stand out, even fragile as they are, and not get sniped. Hell, it could be cool if that was just Kell, and hus bubble still worked to buff things, though that might go against his Heroic Intervention theme. At this rate, I doubt it matters, anyway; by the time we get IG in 9e, Crisis Bodyguards, Sisters Sancrosants, and the other units that do these shenanigans probably won't work that way, anymore; they'll get errata. Still, even as I whine again about some other army, I'll admit that the Crisis Suits seem to be pretty awesome for 9e.

    My crisis suits have been Flamer and Burst for as long as I can remember due to the overwhelming majority of my games being against infantry heavy armies, so it would be nice to try out Fusion, Plasma and CIB as an anti tank loadout.
    I recently grabbed the 'For the Greater Good' box and I'm tempted to grab another combat patrol once I have this built and painted, so just from that new stuff I'll have a 6 man stealth team with all Burst and two Ghostkeels with CIR and either Burst or Flamer - I won't be lacking any anti infantry firepower...

      @alexairey5629 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexairey5629 - dual fusion? do you mean the collider and blasters or just the two blasters?
      My thinking with the anti infantry loadout is mainly the number of shots - I don't see much value in the collider over the raker since it's only 1 strength higher than the overcharged shot and melta requires getting close, and 6-16 flamer hits or 12 burst shots is more appealing than 2 fusion shots.
      Although, the secondary guns aren't getting use until the opponent can shoot back anyway, so I can see the reasoning of having fusion as a deterrent - dare them to get close and slap them with a sun powered shotgun.

    Doubling on guns is (sadly) usually terrible idea but there are few good alternative builds:
    2 flamer and burst stupidly good at short range against infantry. However Flamer + 2 Bursts is also worth considering due to range and actually better damage against T4 3+ (and barely worse against anything else).
    2xBurst+Plasma or 2xFlamer+Plasma - good all-rounders, I would really think about which one to use due to range. El'Cheap-O burst+flamer+plasma is good too for it's points.
    Still, CIB, Plasma and Blaster are probably go-to when using suits as intended.

    • @Speeds_Gaming_Corner

      Doubling on guns is actually mathematically the best for targeting certain loadouts based on some mathhammer. Points per efficiency it is not uncommon to see double flamer be the best choice for certain profiles up to 7 toughness.
      Obviously this specializes the suit in fighting one type of enemy, but that's not too bad in a large army where you might have 1 weakness stand out

      I mean compare them to anything you want, Termies, Custodes, Wraith guard new or old, or even any flavor of Bikers, given their mobility.
      They consistently have more firepower, the battlesuit rules, they have more wounds, toughness, and better mobility, at a much lower price tag.

    If you want an incredibly killy unit of crisis suits, you can take 6 crisis suits with three flamers each (360pts). If you get them into mont'ka range, use the exemplar of the mont'ka warlord trait for reroll wounds, Darkstrider for a +1 to wound and coordinated engagement for an extra AP, you get 18D6+36 autohits at S4 AP-2 D1 with +1 to wound and reroll all wounds. This will kill 96 Guardsmen, 29 Space Marines, 16-17 Gravis Marines, 12 Blightlord Terminators, a casual 50 wounds to a T7 vehicle, 37W to a Plagueburst Crawler, will one-turn a Knight Castellan *with* rotate ion shields, and even if Mortarion turns off rerolls, still forces 11 wounds through to him.
    About the only things it "struggles" against would be anything getting a 0+ save, such as Scarab Occult Terminators, Storm Shield Terminators or Sword or Board Custodian Guard in cover assuming you didn't bring the ignores cover support system, where this will still kill 5 Scarabs or Storm Shield Terminators, 4 Custodian Guard.

    Both overwatch and move shoot move tactics should be nice and an important aspect of the game.
    Overwatch should be a standard action, not cost CP, to allow to hold one or more shots to fire in the opponent's turn. For anything with two or more big guns it should be default to spread fire over turns. A simple mechanic would be to have each additional shot in the shooting phase reduce the attack characteristic by one and have unused attacks be used for overwatch (like action points in Battlesector).
    Depending on the number of guns, attacks, movement and special rules the shots could have different modifiers.
    A player must balance used firepower with anticipating enemy moves.
    Tau could be king of this overwatch game, and opponents without good overwatch tactics should struggle against their move-shoot-move options. This makes it more about player skill than having and abusing unrealistic and possibly OP rules.
    This would also prevent a player building around wonky rules to be nerfed every time they change. And not kinda force a player to become a munchkin to play competitively.
    This would go well with borrowing rules from apocalypse games where you distribute damage markers but only resolve damage at the end of a phase/turn. This way everything has a chance to fire before it is destroyed.
