I do not know who trained who but it really has worked well, more to pull this winter and it worked so well I cut some of the bigger logs that I did not think we would be able to move with the Dawg.

The show host sure is hard on his free help....no wonder they leave in a bewildered state....yet they seem to return...must be the whiskey or the sweet rolls. This has been good to see real work accomplished at the cabin, one might have thought life there was just for the birds...! Martin I just had to watch this again. The loggers of years ago had a very large breakfast, then a first lunch, a second lunch, afternoon snack and then a large supper. The camps had their own cooks. Got any more friends to cook?
One of my Great Gandmothers and her sisters were cooks up in the woods of Maine. She said they would get up at 330 in the morning to start prepping the breakfast meal, They probably worked as hard as the loggers.

11:50 you show an old homestead cabin. WOW those birches grew up in there but wow that tree in front of them seems OLD…how could that possibly be inside the cabin perimeter such a crazy large tree
That cabin seems to have been under construction around 1930. The owner died then and trees grew up inside. I cut a Balsam in the middle of the cabin and tree rings indicated it started growing in 1935.
Those caramel rolls look tasty. Looks like you guys are getting quite a bit of timber moved. Won't be long construction will begin. While I'm in a holding pattern on my cabin plans due to lumber costs and winter I'm seriously considering a log structure instead of standard framing. I would love to use timber on my property to do so but majority of my timber is hard maple. Even so with buying my logs I would eliminate exterior siding, insulation and interior work. For the cost it's fairly equal. Throw that in with the experience of building a log cabin on your own is gratifying. Just haven't decided on dove tail or butt and pass.
@@TheNorthwoodsman1 yea I've been watching videos on it I think dovetail is the preferred method by most but for a little 16x20 dry cabin I think butt and pass would be sufficient. I want to make it easy as possible and easy on the pocketbook too so I'm thinking of going 6x8 or 8x8 rough sawn square pine timbers. I can buy them milled and kiln dried, delivered to my property for about 4 grand. A lot of the lower work I can do myself with the help of some ingenuity. It looks like a fairly easy build just keep everything square and plum as you go.
Hey, Shawn James has a plastic cone to put on the leading end of logs that he pulls with his snowmobile. You might consider looking into that...just an idea. Love your videos.
I noted Shawn was having a hard time on his first attempts with the cone. Need to see how it worked once the trail was packed. For my situation the cone would be hard to ride on.LOL

I love the wash pans - I have 3 of them for camping
One for dishwater, one for rinse water and one for baths, we are civilized.

Hey, Shawn James has a plastic cone to put on the leading end of logs that he pulls with his snowmobile. You might consider looking into that...just an idea. Love your videos.
I noted Shawn was having a hard time on his first attempts with the cone. Need to see how it worked once the trail was packed. For my situation the cone would be hard to ride on.LOL
