One of the first light modifiers most photographers buy is an umbrella. In this video Gavin Hoey gives you two very different uses for the translucent shoot-through umbrella. You'll discover just how this versatile lighting tool can be used to create moody headshots and evenly lit shots in a small studio.
After taking the photos, follow Gavin into Photoshop CC where he combines five photos to produce a very unique portrait sequence.

Hi Gavin, first of all great videos, very helpful for us beginner photographers. I was wondering if you could explain how did you make the background show even white color at the end since during the masking and combining them there were differences in shade. Thank you. Awesome job.

how do you use camera raw to open the files in photoshop??? my files are in CR2... and photoshop doesn t open that kind of files.. i realy need your help
You'll need to update either your version of Photoshop to it's newest RAW (Edit - Updates) or if your camera is newer then your copy of Photoshop you'll need to update the whole of Photoshop. If that's not for you the Google "Adobe DNG converter" and convert your CR2 files to DNG.
i all ready used dng converter and it doesnt work... i apologies for my english i am from panama city panama xD... i m trying now with lightroom... i ll being asking you for help because i thing you are awesome... i really do like your vides and your photography work
you can download the free Adobe DNG Converter from Adobe. You can open the file with it and it gets converted so you can then open it in your program..
Amazing!!😂🤣
This is amazing and a great tutorial, but there's a pretty big glaring problem: You can see big erased areas all over the photo (at least with my calibrated monitor you can) where you've erased around parts of the photos to merge them. The process has left behind big white splotches of erasure over the less-than-white background.
I didn't expect you to fix that in a 13 minute video after a one-light setup, don't get me wrong, but I was shocked I reached the end of the video without you mentioning it. I had been waiting for you to talk about it and was surprised you didn't at least point out that they were there and would probably need correcting in the long-term.
I wouldn't give that photo out even for free as a finished product unless they were addressed, let alone if you do this for someone who is paying you. It's definitely something you need to be aware of, that this is not a finished product at the end of the video.
The best photographer.. The best tutorials.. Thanks Adorama.. Thanks Gavin..
