Thank you thank you thank you. This is exactly what I needed to walk me through using the T8 Icon Diagnostics Scanner to clear these values and clear the forever reoccurring P0019 error code. I had already removed and cleaned all 4 vvt sensor on a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and replaced all 4 camshaft position sensors and the crankshaft position sensor and couldn't get the error code to clear. Once I went through your process with the service fuse in place the sensors went from reading at 98 and 107 to reading 88 and 89. Error cleared and stayed cleared. Thanks man.

What coding tools could be used to reset the values on an early model brz/frs for clearing a p0018. I have an autel maxis elite 2 that I used at my shop and access to ecutek tuning software.

Unfortunately, the BRZ/FRS requires specialized tools to read the emulated eeprom from the ECM and then manually, edit the values before writing it back.

I'm in the group of Crosstrek challengees here... got a P0017 blip. Replaced the VVT solenoids myself, didn't work. Went to dealer, they replaced the same pieces, that didn't work. Dealership wanted another $4100 to remove cover, replace 2 sprockets, replace ecm. Dealership said that the valve timing values couldn't be reset. Before doing any thing else should i do this reset procedure?? What's the risk?? Great video, you're really helping alot of persons out there.

      @@joem6859 what year crosstrek?
2014 and older cannot be reset with this method but I can reset them on the bench. I offer a mail in service.
Timing gears are common to sludge up or fail internally causing the values to climb too high.
I typically change the oil, reset the ECM, and then take the car for a drive to see if the numbers return back to a high value. If the values stay within range I release the car with an advisement that the timing components may need to be replaced.
Part of the TSB is to unplug all the solenoids and monitor the vvt angle within the first 10 seconds of start up to see if the timing is off.
If you trust the shops diag on the timing parts but wanted to save money on the ECM you can mail it in to me and have it reset after the repairs have been performed. They will likely charge $800-1200 for ECM replacement depending on part number. My fee is a fraction of that.
If you have a 2015 or newer the reset in this video should work fine to reset the values back to zero.

I wonder if it will work if you manually select the wrong vehicle. Perhaps a couple years newer. I haven’t run into a vehicle that is listed on the TSB I couldn’t reset except the BRZ. I have not had one that early in the bay that needed a reset.
Some of the early vehicles did not have learning value display until after a reflash and some never got the data.
Page 14 of the TSB gives instruction for testing. One step is to unplug vvt solenoids and start engine while monitoring actual vvt position within the first 10 seconds after start up. If the value is +\-10 then change the solenoid and recheck. If it’s more than 10 degrees inspect the timing chain.
You can swap solenoids left to right and see if the problem moves to the other bank as well.

@@ThePracticalMechanic Thanks for replying. Yes I tried selecting newer years and even different regions. I've already bought two OCV solenoid and installed one on the driver side. That was my first try at it. Might install the passenger as well to see a miracle. Also did read page 14 but I already returned the scan tools as it did not have test mode as an option. Do you think the Autel 906ts will have this test mode? I might get that next but its expensive. A little background I just rebuilt this engine and during engine prime the Vvt sprockets would not lock (they kept clicking) due to no oil pressure. I couldn't get oil light to go off. After many attemps I started the engine and the sprockets finally locked. I dont want to disassemble engine just yet but wanted to do your procedure first to determine if the culprit is the Vvt learned values. It seems like manufacturers are designing newer vehicles as extortion machines. What a world we live in.

I replaced the cam gear as well as the filter on the cam carrier because I may have installed it deeper than it was supposed to be. The new cam gear is genuine OEM and was redesigned as the originals were prone to failure; I only replaced the side with issue. I'm happy to say my issue was resolved after this.
