The group online is sorta pseudo-co-op. Note that the share powerup and revive mechanic still works for group online, so the only thing is not being able to directly interact with others... which solves two major issues: players trolling each other and needing to have all players perfectly synced (meaning no lag issues if other players are lagging and etc)
Well if you notice, even in local co-op there is no direct interaction between players except riding yoshis. No grabbing each other, or bouncing off each other.
enemies though, and objects are still per player
I kinda like it tbh. Passive co-op where you can see friends but not get chucked off a cliff by them.
That's actually a really good point, I hadn't thought of it that way. Ugh, I CANNOT wait 2 more months for this!!! (Realistically 4 months, assuming it will be a Christmas gift lol)
I hope Wonder style makes it into Mario Maker 3. I can only imagine all the ideas creators will put into it.
And all the trolls and glitches possible!

The drill and bubble power ups would be soooo good for puzzles

@@ExaltedUriel I've seen some people mentioning potential kaizo tech with midair bubble jumps, and I'm wondering how bubbled items will behave. Can you bubble Boos? Honestly the possibilities are insane. I do wish bubbles didn't insta-kill enemies and instead left them suspended in the air, but that's just a minor nitpick.
The fact that you can send bubbles through walls is a game changer.
even without wonder flowers; the powerups and enemies alone seem like they have so many possibilities; especially with interactions between em all
This game might be the first Mario game I'm going to treat like Zelda and disappear from the internet to avoid spoilers. It feels like the best creative step upward since Super Mario World.
The look on Yoshi's face when an elephant jumps on his back is so hopeless, like "ugh! Why me?"

This might be the best technical Mario game ever. All the badges and stuff that you can use for movement and changing how to play the levels is crazy.
Totally agree! I think the badges are going to add a whole other dimension. I'm sure that '100% w/ invisibly badge' is going to an official speed running category!
I think that with the friend rooms you can still go into a level together, but you all have a different "instance". While not full co-op, you can still play together and help each other which is better then nothing.
it's probably gonna be better this way considering how laggy mm2's multiplayer would get

Oh I'm sure that's going to be a speed run category! So many really cool, creative ideas being presented in this game it is incredible! 2D gaming is far from dead imo.
My gut says the reason there won’t be the standard coop online is to reduce demand on connections; with ‘shadows’ playing together the server can send messages back and forth at a lower rate, and if anyone disconnects it doesn’t effect gameplay for the remaining players
Yes, I think it looks very fun! In particular, my youngest daughter's favorite animal is an elephant, so she is thrilled! And I agree, 100% in this game should be a blast.
Funny though is that your reaction to the "no damage" characters was "oh great, my kids can use that to help them play!", but my reaction was to tell my kids "none of you are allowed to use that mode" lol

The "online" with friends is everyone is playing the level "together" but alone. So you can play with friends online, but there is no interacting with each other so no more screwing your friends over and tossing them in a pit. Only helping each other if you die.

4:50 this is the first reaction I’ve seen where someone says something positive about the Yoshis being easy mode. It’s not only makes sense(as Yoshi never died unless dropped in a pit/chemical that hates life) but is good to have a lot more options instead of just Nabbit.
Game looks great, but Dave missed a chance for a dad joke at the end there, should have been "...right around the pipe bend." 😆

I really am digging this. Aside from the 3d games this is the biggest evolution of Mario gameplay since SMW in my opinion.
I have a strong feeling that online co-op might come as free DLC down the road. I can see how it might be tricky due to story progression and all though.
I get the feeling its more of a challenge in dealing with lag. By making them ghosts the game doesn't have to constantly worry about their collision detection so the network latency problem is significantly reduced as it doesn't need as much data from other players. Watch Nintendo find a way to mess this up anyway and have me eat my words.
But... we are already paying for online..

Possibly everyone is just playing on their own account, in which case...that is weird.
@@theAstarrr this version of online play is not true coop though. Even though what they implemented seems cool, most people I would think want online coop in the same fashion as the local coop mode.
I think this looks pretty fun. The last 2d official Mario game I played was New Super Mario Bros U and I was diss appointed that they didn’t add much from New Super Mario Bros Wii. It looks like they’ve added tons of stuff with this one.

This new style of online co-op is perfect because it gives you all of the good sides of co-op (reviving, sharing items) and giving you none of the bad sides. You now can't purposely screw someone over cause you're a troll. It makes co-op actually fun versus frustrating. And if you're playing with friends, it's still co-op. But again, your friends can't screw you up on purpose.
You _can_ still screw someone over it's just a lot harder. You can equip the Invisibility Badge so other players can't see your shadow, then when someone dies, while they're trying to hover their ghost out of the pit and towards a shadow they can see, you touch them and revive them while they're still above the pit, so they immediately fall back into it and die again.
Kinda wanna see an all-invisible-mode speedrun 😂

This game looks SO GOOD! I can't wait to get my hands on it! Also, the person who now voices Mario did an excellent job! He's no Charles Martinet but he's a pretty good successor to him!

I like how the versus mode is based on your time finishing the level or completing the objective and the other players won't get in your way.
Very exciting! To me this is worthy of a title of Super Mario Bros. 5, finally. I'm also excited for the possibilities in Super Mario Maker 3 where we can create our own SMBW-levels

I love that there are so many new enemies after all this time. I'm pretty sure the drill is from mario galaxy but you can do way more. I also love that's it's a new kingdom and new characters so we get seed looking toads or Poplins if i heard correctly. I am so happy they showed the elephant power ups on all the characters because it's absolutely hilarious but I really need to know if you can do elephant yoshi or elephant nabit 😆.

I kinda wish u had the option to make characters easy mode or they had their own powers but this game defo looks like one of the best 2d mario games we've had in years 🤩
So, I wasn’t exactly excited the first time I sent this because it made me feel old to see a new style of character design and design overall. However, it seems so intricate and I would love to be able to play this and maybe even try out speed running this game because there is going to be so much different ways that might just seem so right and so wrong for a level. Good to see you DGR! I haven’t came by for awhile (I usually watch on my smart TV), but I have always loved your intros and outrod and everything in between :). Until next time, take care :)!
i'm so hyped for this when i first saw it i was skeptical about the new art style but ive grown to like it i do hope however that there is more than four power ups (those power ups being the elephant , the fire flower, the bubble suit and the drill suit) like maybe an ice flower, penguin suit or maybe even a 3D crossover and add the tanooki leaf into the mix. I think that would be cool even though it probably wouldn't happen, let me know what you think (anyone who reads this that is)

I think the reason they made online co-op like that was to minimize lag and also grieving like the past super mario bros. games.
The badges and the extra power-up are the most interesting part.
The online player shadows in courses and in the overworld is a fantastic touch!
When I seen the three new powerups I was happy enough, but given wonder transformations and the badges I have the dumbest grin rn.

They say this game is going to be around the same difficulty as SMB3, but with these new power-ups and Yoshi/Nabbit not taking damage, that makes it great for new and experienced players.
I didn't think much of this game at first, but I'm definitely getting this and playing it with my wife day one.

Yeah, the lack of true online co-op is a bummer. Not sure why they can't do it like in Super Mario 3D World, but I'm sure there are good reasons. Playing with shadows from random players looks like it could be fun, and getting heart points seems like a fun twist.

Something came up to my mind. You can connect two controllers, one is any character you would like to play, and the other is an afk Yoshi you can take with you to the course

Nabbit seems kinda useless when there’s Yoshi in the game, since he’s also invincible and has he’s abilities like the flutter jump. To make Nabbit more unique I think Nintendo should make him be able to hold onto an extra item or two to make him more useful. He’s just gonna be outshined by the Yoshi’s.

This feels like a true Super Mario World 2. All the new items, effects, unlocks, characters, etc.
Seeing a LOT of similarities with the last Kirby game style and game-play elements and this game;

I remember being slightly underwhelmed by the announcement in June. I think I was still so excited for the Mario RPG remake I didn't think this was going to be that great. This Direct has made me do a 180. This game, given more details, looks awesome. Day one purchase, for sure.
