  • This channel provides you with technological information on mechanical design (CAD). Mechanical Engineering design is the application of engineering principles and Mechanical engineering technologists are expected to apply current technologies and principles from the machine and product design. The Ceylon CAD will provide you with new and various designs, concepts, and knowledge to design, and Solid works are used to create all videos on this channel.

    Back-drive is an essential feature for the joint.

    All the gear slop at half the price.

    Great Effort!!!
    But could you please explain the application of such mechanism. I clearly see that the shaft is rotating about its own axis, but the final rotation is also about an axis parallel to the shaft. So what is the uniqueness? Additionally i would really appreciate if you would present a hypothetical situation where this could be used.

      What would set this apart is that the wormwheel basically assures that when power gets shut down, the wrist will keep it's position. And when power is restored it can assume it hasn't lost position. On the other hand, where something to happen, like a collision with a human of a wall, it will not stop moving because of the wormwheel. This is called compliance, the ability to be moved by other objects while moving itself. Making this a dangerous mechanism if it where to operate near people.

    Where did you would use this mechanism, for what applications?

      Smart Ideas For what? I see many gearings, but what conversion where u looking for? What real applicaction? And with the screw (the gear, sorry I don’t know the name in english) You would just have not much movement, and maybe just a lot of tork? Still seeing it useless. Explain

      @@cristianriosestrada7771 its robotic actuator/wrist. speed is not that important compared to torque. The motzor is also not shown here thus you can not really state that this way.

    You would never use a worm gear on a robotic joint of any repeatability.

      @@ceylonCAD how about using yeast to make black widow silk like that one dude who I'll link when I find his name again, alongside using bacteria to make chitin and then layering that up with Kevlar with some shear-thickening foam padding behind it as extremely lightweight body armor?

      maybe get something to produce sea snail shell for ablative heavy armor

  • @dickobrazz

    nobody would use it as robotic arm joint due to the shear amount of backlash between all the gears..

    • @ceylonCAD
      @ceylonCAD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      don't you know, nowadays backlash compensated gears are available & can be manufactured.
