A large part of cardiac drift will come from a combination of heat, dehydration, and blood glucose dropping. What happens is your blood plasma is reduced, causing your cardiac stroke volume to decrease. Essentially, your heart pumps a lower volume of blood with each stroke because it's thicker, raising your Bpm for the same RPE. Cardiac drift due to these factors doesn't necessarily indicate a lack of fitness, although that probably played a small part. This cardiac drift due to heat doesn't have the same neurological effect as riding harder would. I for one can see a significant cardiac drift during the hot months of the year when I do my long (8hr+) training rides. I can start with 140 bpm for a few hours, and as the sun rises and average temp increases, along with dehydration onset, mine can increase to as much as 160 bpm for the same wattage.
Another cracking video, Mr Dillman. Again, those great skies full of possibility and that gently toasting sun. Just the right amount of commentary leavening the action.
I did like moment of realisation that the chase was all down to you!
Glad you enjoyed it
Keeping watch out for notice to register for the Fairdale Fondo.
The stash is choice👌 now your official and no one’s gotta chance!
Exactly!
That race looks cool as hell
Throughly enjoyed that breakdown!
Congrats on 2nd Place!
Next year 1st 🥇!
Great video. Moustache is awesome.... And you haven't offended anyone this week - yet. 😂 Love it Drew! Keep it up
Dylan is just too busy testing tire widths as to get that edge on the competition, but will it pay off in 2025? Who will be the first tire manufacturer to team up with Dylan on the next new “Big Johnson” gravel tire?
the BIG D
That's a great name for... a tyre.
Like the Big Johnson T shirts from the 90’s 😅 might get a copyright infringement.
@@benjaming.2218 I have googled for Big Johnson T-Shirts. This brand still exists. Wow, I have never seen better apparel of taste.
Big Johnson purple chili compound (KOM Edition)
Amazing! Make sure to come back next year. Also gravel Centro is near Querétaro and an amazing race too. A very worthwhile visiting region
Miss these videos. Can’t wait to see some Lunchbox Racing!!!
That's awesome brother . Congratulations !
Thanks man! Glad you're enjoying it!
Best recap i’ve seen in a min
Put some extra work into it this time. Thanks!
Those roads looked pretty sketch and I thought you were gonna turn that dog into a fur carpet. Thanks for the video.
Nice job. Can't imagine riding that race on gravel tires. Wise choice of the mtb tires.
Drew, You are the reason I listen to the Bonk Bros, keep it up! Really well made video aswell
Great job!! I don’t know if you would’ve done so good without that mustache though. Seems to add watts in gravel but could possibly subtract points in road racing. On a hipster cafe ride it’ll probably win you every stop sign sprint.
True true.
Thanks for the info on this race.
Thanks, been waiting for this one.
Holy crap those gravel roads look SO unenjoyable hahah
no gloves on those roads is also diabolical 😂
Yea. It was rough fo sho.
Outstanding, bro!
Nice work Drew - looking forward to seeing you next month!
Can't wait!
@@DrewDillmanChannel FYI -- my middle name is "Cardiac Drift" ;)
Drew, this was a good video. Keep it up.
Hollering at the lesser guys to pick it up sounds like another person with a mustache. 😂
Great video of the conditions - some of those roads might have been faster on an xc bike! Thanks for the insights.
Finally! Thx for the footage
Glad you liked it!
Congrats on the 2nd and MTB tires! Your brave riding with no gloves if you go down hard off road.
I lived in Tequisquiapan for seven years and rode all the roads and trails and towns of this course on an XC bike. Apart from the obvious rock damage to the hands…there are nasty, stiff, big thorns all over. They’re attached to every type of plant and they fall everywhere, onto the roads and into grassy area from the mezquite trees.
Yea. Hands shed a lot of heat. That’s my reasoning.
@@DrewDillmanChannel need some convertible gloves! Padding on the grip and cutout open on the top
It's good to see you've embraced the Spirit of Gravel fist bumping fest. Crit Drew is laughing at gravel Drew.
Was waiting for tis one since you had the Raw Footage
Sorry for the delay. Turns out trying to train big volume and edit videos and still maintain all the other responsibilities is pretty tough.
amazing race! I was recently encouraged to see you running a garmin 530 as i have just moved from the edge 130 to 540. Could you nerd out on your data screens for when and where?
you can go to the sacramento suburbs and see great things like... lachlan morton
awesome content, thanks!
Dylan-I lived in Tequisquian for seven years (including pandemic, moved to Bloomington IN in 22😅) and rode XC on all the roads of the BWR coursel you show in this video. Super smart choice to use mtb tires. Around 2.1? 2.2? You habe yourself speed through rough sections and saved you life on the cobbles. Those cobbled roads will beat the bejesus out of you on skinny tires.
Also, I’m curious how tou did with thorns. I usually picked up 6-8 in a 3 hr ride. We just cut the heads off the thorns with side cutters and left the stems stuck in the casing. Rarely got flats from them.
Don’t think I had any thorns. Never had to stop and plug anything.
great vid diz
Thanks for watching!
That stache is solidddddd
Foreal though.
What tires were you running in this race? Great video!
Thank you for this video! I live in CDMX and just now getting into gravel. Can you please let me know which tires you used? Muchas gracias 😂
Great result, Dizzle! Good call on the mtb tires, it sure looked bumpy. Curious why no gloves? I’d think some gel fingerless would take a big edge off the vibration, plus a bit of protection if doggo took you out. God bless.
Yea. Good question. I opted no gloves for heat reasons. Your hands shed a lot of heat.
haven't watched through yet, but bwr didn't publish results or post media about the '24 version .... burying it to drop it in 25?
The trend to large mtb gravel tires -,-are you all riding the Felts ? Not sure other than Rodeo there are many frame sets to allow them ??
That stache is nice.
Not cool to keep your fans waiting forever when podium was possible. Congrats 😂
Sorry. Was trying to make it a bit better and got busy. Thanks for waiting!
I bet you wanted the lauf fork for that race.
I talked about the Lauf fork in my recording but ended up cutting it out. That’s exactly what I said. Woulda been great for that race.
awesome video! what camera and mount do you use?
Silca Mount. GoPro13.
What is the watt/weight penalty of the stache?
What is the scheduling app at beginning of video ?
mtb tires = smart
Why would one not use a drop bar mtb at this race seeing the conditions?
Probably weight penalty. I have a drop bar hardtail and it really fits into a niche category of riding. Too heavy for racing…yet to limited for the techy trails. I’m still trying to figure out what to do with it!!
❤🔥
Pete Stettner not sure how to spell the last name used to be brothers when I raced Wayne and Steve I think is he one of theirs son?
35mm at 60psi was the optimal tire here 😀
This is a better video from you.
Great video, but your pronunciation of the host town name made me kind of sad
Good job Drew. But now that you have a mustache, you can't be racing gravel like that anymore. Never assume you will just catch up to people later. Would you rather go hard on a seven minute climb or chase for three hours? Mustache!!
Hindsight is everything. Lesson learned.
@ Definitely. And it’s even easier for me to say from here. Glad Lauf is supporting you too btw. I’ve been telling friends that ask for a while that if I were buying now, I’d get the Seigla.
What church do you go to Drew?
First Baptist Church Fairdale. Right down the street from where I grew up. Been plugged in there for about 15 years. It’s the main reason we’ve decided to live where we do.
Hope no one wants to be the LA of anywhere.
Thanks for confirming my suspicions. You can’t ride 4 hours at 90-95% Max hr unless your are on steroids! So stop bragging doper.
My max is 200
lmao bro thinks he can tell if someone is a doper if he sees a trainingpeaks file of 1 race. Maybe apply for a job at wada😂
@@DrewDillmanChannel I thought my max was 200 also, then I put on skis after 20 years of not riding and my watch recorded 205 XD
