The original single was 'edited' several times..... . However even now 40 years later it is still not 100% clear as to what exactly was released including a possible/probable UK promo 7 from 1983
Blue Monday 1983 "edit" versions is almost a subject in itself !!! .... In short there appear to have been several edits ; ! - Promo Video For starters there is the original Promo Video containing a 4:30 edit that was released on Shorts compilation video. This appears to be unique / different to other edits below.... - UK Promo 7 (FAC 73?) Very elusive format. I have MP3 edits that claim to be from this elusive 1983 Factory 7 promo single (My info is - A = Blue Monday (7 Promo Edit) - 4:10 , B = The Beach (7 Promo Edit) - 4:09). Obviously can't be 100% sure . UK Promo 7 has never shown up on Discog website but apparently does exist...(somewhere). I've heard various fans over the years tell me that Factory definitely pressed this promo 7 for the original Blue Monday single in 1983 that contained edits of both sides (this also used to pop up in a few discographies). Apparently Andy Peebles (BBC Radio 1 DJ) played this promo edit version back in the early 80s. Lastly I'm fairly certain Hooky was asked about this years ago and replied that he had a stack of these Factory promo 7s for the original Blue Monday sitting in his garage... (and possibly the rest of the band also!?) The MP3 edits match youtube videos below> th-cam.com/video/IaJnie6bLOo/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/APeivJuW9uI/w-d-xo.html - Japanese Promo 7" (TD-1098) Yes there was is Promo 7 containing 4:09 edit of BM on A side (Confusion edit on B side) . This is on Discog website. I've never heard this mix so not sure if same as 4:09 edit above that purports to be UK promo 7 edit - US Factory Promo 7 (unknown cat) There also appears to be a Factory US Promo 7 for Blue monday containing another 3:59 edit. This is here> th-cam.com/video/xzlwF4gpDtM/w-d-xo.html (Note - This edit appears to be very different to version I have that purports to be UK promo 7 edit ) - Unknown There is also another 4:30 edit i have collected, this is again very different to Video mix. I believe that this may have been a more recent 'original edit' released via 1980s compilations. Finally there may well be further BM edits that have appeared purporting to be 'original edits' , but suspect these are both fanmade and recent
Thanks richard for this info. Yes I remember andy peebles playing a 7 inch like version back in september 1983 on the bbc top 40 chart rundown when it went back up the charts again. Tommy vance (rip) also played a 7 inch factory restructure promo of their other hit confusion on a top 40 countdown a few weeks later.
Great version.
