    The fake popup is really smart and well done! Most people will get fooled by something like this

      yeah, however good news is that its very simple and easy to detect, once you know what it is.

      I'm heavily into IT and have been for many years so am aware of all these scams and how they work etc but this one I even fell for a year or so back. It was for Runescape but same kinda popup window (one inside website frame). Didn't think anything of it. URL looked good etc. Next thing I know my bank account got cleared. Kick myself every day still for falling for it.

    1. Avoid getting scammed by not accepting random friend requests (Random invites mostly come from bot farms that look for culpable victim's that respond to ready made script)
    Tip: For less invites make profile private (More value in inventory more friend requests you get)
    2. Don't click any links ever (Link scams have existed forever, data stealing, malware and so on)
    Note: If this guy does not have malware in hes PC currently he is lucky that he didn't meet a more professional scammer. As this is slowly becoming a norm to add malware in to fishing links that are shared on steam and other platforms.

      1. I don't do that, since every once in a while, I do find some cool people on steam, and also, I do trade skins, so I kind of got to accept them. It is an option, but only in the worst of circumstances (i.e. getting messages every day by some random scammer). Your choice at the end of the day though.
      2. You'll be surprised at how safe it is to click random links. The only thing that they can get from you automatically is you IP, which a simple VPN masks. Other than that, scammers can't do much else, that's why they rely on phishing. So long as you don't enter ANY personal information onto the site, or download ANYTHING, you should be fine. Do note however that I am somewhat experienced in this field, and you are right, I should have probably made a disclaimer in the video for people to not click any links from anyone, that is my bad, and I will do that in my next video.
      Yeah, all you said is correct, and is the safest method or avoiding scams, however I do prefer a bit more flexibility and a bit more leniency in my security, and also it is pretty fun sometimes to mess with these scammers. however, for the average person watching this video, I should have said exactly what you said, and I will change the description as such, thank you for letting me know, sorry for the long message.

    • @Crankypanst
      @Crankypanst  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, in general, that's what most "suspicious links" do, they impersonate a person / company / website, and try to get you to enter your info, it's not just steam scammers who do this, but in general scammers do this as well. Happy I helped you!

      No problem, the only other way scammers can scam you is by impersonating another person/site, got me once with that, I might make a video about it later, its a lot harder to spot though. Anyways thanks for the comment! I appreciate it a ton!

    I just block every friend request. I bet every single one I get is a scammer.
    There are always steam level 10 and the only games they play are f2p

    • @Crankypanst
      @Crankypanst  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      well, not all are scammers, many random people friend requested me to trade skins, or play a game, or a lot of other reasons. If you're not in the skin trading scene, and don't really care for playing games with random people online, you can definitely just block every friend request, or even disable them entirely, me personally, I leave my requests open, but the choice is yours to make.

    Just don't type your password, like ever. Use password manager. Password manager will know whether the website you are on is legit and fake.

    • @Crankypanst
      @Crankypanst  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, that's definitely one way to do it, the only issue is that if someone hacks your Password Manager everything you have is gone essentially, so you have to be very safe when using it, however me personally I find it safer to store my passwords in my head, where no one else can access, thanks for sharing your thought on the matter, I love talking to people about this stuff
