Hi Abi, you’re the type of designer I aspire to be. I’ve always wanted to start a career in graphic design but wasn’t sure how I can transition from a hospitality background to this career. For many years I’ve been using Canva for personal projects. Now I’m learning to use Illustrator at 29 so I can get a job as a graphic designer even just at an entry level to gain experience. I'm so glad it was helpful! Total honesty... I never actually watched videos to learn when I was just starting out. I'm really a 'get stuck in' kind of person and so, I would constantly experiment and learn on the go! I swear by trial and error and really uncovering what works (and what doesn't) for you personally!
Hey Abi, just wanted to ask you if someone streamlines all of your client processes into one place seamlessly, would you be interested in that? Also do you struggle with the problem of project management?
Well, I've just had this realization too. Learn to disqualify clients that are not a good fit. Make your own spreadsheet with all the things they need to have in order to qualify to work with you. Then use that to accept or politely decline prospect clients.
Do not say yes to that. No one should even turn on the pc for that price. If your are willing to work with this type of clients, this is not the method for you. So much time and effort should be only made for serious clients.

Hey Oscar, So there is a big difference between them both and they have different uses: The brand presentation pitches the visual identity concept to the client it shows the logosuite, fonts, colour palette and mockups. It's presented during the design stage of the project seeking client approval. Once the client is happy with the final concept, they sign off on the brand presentation (visual identity). Brand guidelines, on the other hand, is a document that outlines how to implement the new visual identity along with a set of rules and instructions ensuring the consistent use of it, so your client or their team know how to implement and use it across different touchpoints. These guidelines are delivered at the end of the project during the offboarding stage. Hope this helps :)

Another great video! I may have missed it but when you create the Strategy and Creative Direction document do you go through (present it) to the client or just upload it to your portal and let the client give you written feedback? The same with the final concept and brand presentation.
Thank you :) So it depends on the scale & complexity of the project and their budget, with lower budget projects, I just upload to the portal, but on big projects we will jump on a call and go through it!

No I haven't because I now work with higher budget cleints and they appreciate a thorough process like this, but to your point, I can see lower budget cleints thinking it's too long, so what I would say is tailor it to your needs, don't feel like you have to copy it exactly, just take what you find useful :)

Do you buy the licenses so you can use them, and because who doesn't collect fonts, or do you download them free/for personal use to create the branding and presentation, and then the client needs to download/purchase them for client use?
Glad to hear it, thank you :) So I always get my fonts from subscription service platforms like Envato elements (so I just play a monthly fee and get access to a bunch of fonts) then I leave a link in the portal for the cleint to purchase the font that was used in their branding. Hope this helps!

I vet them before working with them, I only take on clients who agree to my process, and actually want to work with me rather than just getting a quick logo

Can I ask how the client sign the contract? I mean do you use a website, do they print it or the fact that they paid the first deposit equals to an agreement to the terms, or some other way? PS: I miss the crocs part of the video ^^
Of course! I simply upload the contract into my client portal as a PDF. The client then uses Adobe Acrobat Reader (a link provided) to sign the contract and re-uploads this into the client portal. Haha, did you catch the Designer Boss Summit video? 👀

That is not a serious client. Ignore anyone who wants something for nothing.

what is the difference between quotation and project proposal? since both has the pricing the deliverables
They are pretty much the same just worded differently, but I have a video coming soon where I go over my whole proposal process in detail :)

How do you deal with lazy clients who don’t want to be part of the process?
I vet them before working with them, I only take on clients who agree to my process, and actually want to work with me rather than just getting a quick logo
I was wondering if someone can help answer a question , I recently did a fictional rebrand of an already existing brand and was proud of the work but still conscious if I’m allowed to post it to social media or not. No issue if I can’t as it was only for practice anyway

If they are big, like Huel or Gymshark I wouldn't worry, just clearly state that it's a concept

Can I ask how the client sign the contract? I mean do you use a website, do they print it or the fact that they paid the first deposit equals to an agreement to the terms, or some other way?

Of course! I simply upload the contract into my client portal as a PDF. The client then uses Adobe Acrobat Reader (a link provided) to sign the contract and re-uploads this into the client portal.
