I've actually seen that one about Skyrim animals once. I left an inn trying to find Sanguine so I could do his Daedric Quest, then, just as I was about to pull up the map to fast travel to the next place I had in mind, I noticed a horse with a guy on it acting weird in between two houses. I close the menu, get a closer look, and WOOSH! Away it goes! I look behind me, and it's just flying through the air in its idle pose as if it's still rooted to the ground! My reaction to that was a resounding, "...Huh. That's a new one". It's a Skyrim moment I hold especially dear to my heart.

You wanna know one of my favorite points of humor in almost any given media, video games included? That fourth wall. I get more than enough joy out of someone being self aware that they're in a video game. And you know what, you can take that as far as you want. They could be self aware they're not even real or acknowledge the difference between reality and fiction. Anything that shatters that fourth wall is entertaining to me, so much so that I even do it myself when I write. I'm pretty sure I've damaged that fourth wall as many times as Skipper stared at the camera in Gilligan's Island. And finally, thanks for the laugh. At times like these, we need it the most.
Too Many Ocs I usually really hate self-aware humor, way too often it’s used by bad writers as a cheap and lazy substitute for good writing and ruins the immersion. „Haha, lazy writing lol, right, audience?“ No. Pointing out your problems neither makes them go away nor does it make you a clever writer. That being said, I really like the way Super Paper Mario did it. The events of the story are still relevant to the characters in-universe, they’re still trying to stop the void and Count Bleck and Dimentio are still taken seriously as antagonists and at no point does the writing tell you otherwise. The immersion is there and it’s not going anywhere. This way, when the game does break the fourth wall, it actually is kind of clever and funny. Like in the dating sim parody, if you try to make Peach propose to Francis, she will question who is selecting these answers for her. Or how the word „death“ in this game is substituted with „game over“ and in the Underwhere, there are a bunch of underworld citizens talking about how they missed a jump and other common ways to die in Mario games. For me, it’s either have a solid foundation for a story and then sprinkle some fourth-wall-breaks in here or there or make the self-awareness part of the premise and roll with it, like Conker or Animaniacs did.

A lot of animation studios sold their sound effects libraries when they went under and nintendo uses a lot of them. That also where they got bowser's SM64 voice samples, so it seems pretty likely.
I can confirm that. I went to DK's Mario wiki page to see if they had the answer, and it seems to be the case. Looking up "Chimpanzee Screeches and Vocalizes" from the Hollywood Edge Sound Effects Library gets you sound clips that were definitely used for Diddy Kong, and probably just edited for Donkey Kong.
Even Bowser's laugh was used for Boo but sped up. I think I also remember years ago reading that Yoshi's sound effect when you hop on him was a reverse record scratch sound of some sort.

Something in a game that I think is funny is the “Raising The Game’s Age Rating” gag from Paper Mario: Colour Splash. After locking up Mario and Huey in a jail cell the yellow Snifit says “There’s not much else I can do without raising this game’s age rating” which is both a 4th wall break and an innuendo😂
One of my favorite newer funnies has to go to Fire Emblem Three Houses. Now while I could just point towards the Golden Deer, say it's just the entirety of that route, and call it a day, but I gotta give it to a more unexpected one. Now i'm about to get real spoilery so avoid those if you must. In the second to last chapter of the Golden Deer route, the party finds out that there are a bunch of people living underground in a city called Shambhala are manipulating the game's main conflicts for their own nefarious purposes, so they head down to stop the problem at it's source, cue chapter. The funny here comes from the music. Now Fire Emblem music is usually characterized by bombastic orchestras, but here they just decided to hire Skrillex or something because the music goes full dubstep and it cracks me up knowing that this is in an officially licensed Fire Emblem game.

I actually have a glitch that happened to me in Shadow of the Colossus that made me have to pause the bossfight and calm down from laughing. I was fighting Phalanx (the thirteenth Colossus) and had just knocked out the first sigil. Naturally as soon as Phalanx burrows, I call for Agro. Agro was close by at this time and came running over, but then Phalanx's tail flipped up as the airborne sand leviathan finished burrowing anD PROCEEDED TO YEET POOR AGRO INTO THE DISTANCE. Agro went flying, and as I watched the poor horse drop like a stone, my laughter turned into a wheeze as not only did this horse not even seem to feel the fall, but practically *rolled over like a dog and got right back up just to run back to me.* Absolute gold. I love that game.
I always loved how quirky Paper Mario and M&L's dialogue was. Lines like "Not that you care, but I gave up on all of my hopes and dreams" come out of nowhere and that specific line suits the Rogueport vibe so well
Salt is only number 9? AND WHO DECIDED THAT!? Seriously, though, one of my favorite things in games is when they deliberatley sneak content past the ESRB as a big, fat middle finger to standards. Paper Mario: Color Splash may not have been a perfect game, but it was PHENOMENAL in this regard. Allusion to prison rape, back-alley drug deals and one hell of a vigorous plunger in a colorful Mario game!? Kills me every time. Makes me wonder what they're gonna cook up in Origami King.
The funniest thing that happened to me in a game happened last night, actually. I was playing Tomodachi Life and two of my Miis had a baby. And I shit you not, the first thing I thought when the baby's face was revealed was, "That baby has only been alive for thirty seconds and she looks so fed up with life!" I showed it to my sister and we laughed our asses off for a good six minutes. But the REAL kicker was that the Mii mama then suggested we name the baby after my sister! So now there's a mean-mugging newborn named Anna on my island, and I'm prepared to laugh at her face every time I see it.

Oh my Alraune. The slapstick in the Bayonetta series never fails to make me wheeze. Like with the aftermath of Temperantia, when the Fearless gets stopped and shocked by a falling bus... then immediately gets crushed by said bus while not even being able to move. The physical comedy in Bayonetta is genius.

Then there are those silly games entirely focused on being a ragdoll that destroys everything it crashes into. Goat Simulator and PAIN being prime examples.
My favorite was the Witcher 3 hearts of stone. you rob a bank and have to keep a hostage to negotiate with the guard. You can make him tell a joke and he makes one about dwarves (I think) and one response was "You're a racist?" Man made me burst out laughing

I can highly relate to the crocodile one. Random ass inside jokes made for no reason are still hilarious. When I was a kid, whenever I played Kingdom Hearts II, I used to love going to the Wharf in Timeless River just to piss off the Hot Rods and dodge them as much as possible. It filled me with laughter seeing them get royally pissed and then try to run me over. If I ever get to that point in KHII again, I'd totally do that again for old times sake.

16:52 I don't know this, but I think the most likely answer is that it comes from a sound effects library. A lot of animation studios sold their sound effects libraries when they went under and nintendo uses a lot of them. That also where they got bowser's SM64 voice samples, so it seems pretty likely.
I can confirm that. I went to DK's Mario wiki page to see if they had the answer, and it seems to be the case. Looking up "Chimpanzee Screeches and Vocalizes" from the Hollywood Edge Sound Effects Library gets you sound clips that were definitely used for Diddy Kong, and probably just edited for Donkey Kong.

Even Bowser's laugh was used for Boo but sped up. I think I also remember years ago reading that Yoshi's sound effect when you hop on him was a reverse record scratch sound of some sort.

Something in a game that I think is funny is the “Raising The Game’s Age Rating” gag from Paper Mario: Colour Splash. After locking up Mario and Huey in a jail cell the yellow Snifit says “There’s not much else I can do without raising this game’s age rating” which is both a 4th wall break and an innuendo😂

One of my favorite newer funnies has to go to Fire Emblem Three Houses. Now while I could just point towards the Golden Deer, say it's just the entirety of that route, and call it a day, but I gotta give it to a more unexpected one. Now i'm about to get real spoilery so avoid those if you must.
In the second to last chapter of the Golden Deer route, the party finds out that there are a bunch of people living underground in a city called Shambhala are manipulating the game's main conflicts for their own nefarious purposes, so they head down to stop the problem at it's source, cue chapter. The funny here comes from the music. Now Fire Emblem music is usually characterized by bombastic orchestras, but here they just decided to hire Skrillex or something because the music goes full dubstep and it cracks me up knowing that this is in an officially licensed Fire Emblem game.

Paper Jam might not be the most... conceptually unique game on the market, but at least we can appreciate the humor we get out of it. God, later Paper Mario games' humor is on POINT! "Mario uses a performance-enhancing power-up to cheat his way to victory!" Kills me every time.

I actually have a glitch that happened to me in Shadow of the Colossus that made me have to pause the bossfight and calm down from laughing.
I was fighting Phalanx (the thirteenth Colossus) and had just knocked out the first sigil. Naturally as soon as Phalanx burrows, I call for Agro. Agro was close by at this time and came running over, but then Phalanx's tail flipped up as the airborne sand leviathan finished burrowing anD PROCEEDED TO YEET POOR AGRO INTO THE DISTANCE.
Agro went flying, and as I watched the poor horse drop like a stone, my laughter turned into a wheeze as not only did this horse not even seem to feel the fall, but practically *rolled over like a dog and got right back up just to run back to me.*
Absolute gold. I love that game.
I always loved how quirky Paper Mario and M&L's dialogue was. Lines like "Not that you care, but I gave up on all of my hopes and dreams" come out of nowhere and that specific line suits the Rogueport vibe so well

Seriously, though, one of my favorite things in games is when they deliberatley sneak content past the ESRB as a big, fat middle finger to standards. Paper Mario: Color Splash may not have been a perfect game, but it was PHENOMENAL in this regard. Allusion to prison rape, back-alley drug deals and one hell of a vigorous plunger in a colorful Mario game!? Kills me every time. Makes me wonder what they're gonna cook up in Origami King.
The funniest thing that happened to me in a game happened last night, actually.
I was playing Tomodachi Life and two of my Miis had a baby. And I shit you not, the first thing I thought when the baby's face was revealed was, "That baby has only been alive for thirty seconds and she looks so fed up with life!" I showed it to my sister and we laughed our asses off for a good six minutes.
But the REAL kicker was that the Mii mama then suggested we name the baby after my sister! So now there's a mean-mugging newborn named Anna on my island, and I'm prepared to laugh at her face every time I see it.

I feel like if there was an honorable mention section, one could be when your in any multiplayer game to ever exist, and then your team mate goes from Rambo destroyer of all to "local idiot fucking dies". When somebody just dies in the most miserably stupid ways, and its perfect.
Oh my Alraune. The slapstick in the Bayonetta series never fails to make me wheeze. Like with the aftermath of Temperantia, when the Fearless gets stopped and shocked by a falling bus... then immediately gets crushed by said bus while not even being able to move. The physical comedy in Bayonetta is genius.

When I was a kid, whenever I played Kingdom Hearts II, I used to love going to the Wharf in Timeless River just to piss off the Hot Rods and dodge them as much as possible. It filled me with laughter seeing them get royally pissed and then try to run me over. If I ever get to that point in KHII again, I'd totally do that again for old times sake.
