Madonna - 60 Minutes Interview (Madonna at 40)

  • from the internet: On March 17 1999, CBS-TV’s news magazine, 60 Minutes II, aired a Madonna interview conducted by Charlie Rose. The segment was titled “Madonna at 40”.
However, the interview shows clips of the Drowned World Tour which took place in 2001. I am guessing this was re-broadcast in 2001? Anyone know why there is such a discrepancy with the dates?

She sure ruled the world for 30+ years. 🙌🌐❤️👑🎶💯✔️ When she came down the stairs on The Virgin Tour Concert, we knew she'll be the biggest-selling female recording artist in history!!!🥂

He was quite patronising at times but, an interesting interview none the less. Motherhood added a new dimension to her, personally and professionally. Madonna was absolutely EVERYTHING during the Ray Of Light/Music era!

@@carolineonline2112 Which is hilarious because not only was it a really good album but it went double platinum and charted top 10 in every territory it was released. Only compared to some of her previous albums was it "a failure" but then we are talking about the most successful female artist of all time..

They laughed at her? I disagree. It’s still sold a lot of copies and she wasn’t doing it necessarily for the money and the attention. She was doing it for herself because she wanted to explore things on her own. I think throughout her career she was trying to figure out who she was and what she wanted to do there’s nothing wrong with that.

I agree. . . I don't think they ever laughed AT her. . . she was interesting always and innovative and people never talked about her art or the points she was making with irony or disbelief or just disgust at humanity sometimes. . . romantic, creative, full of wonder and belief in love's power and God's grace. . . .Madonna. . .

if this interview was during the drowned world tour, Madonna would have been about 43 here not 40. I supposed they decided to go with an even number here for the sake of headlines. it's crazy seeing Madonna's face with natural wrinkles here. thanks for uploading.

For all her legacy of music, creative artistry, activism, advocacy and philanthropy-I’m way beyond judging her by her age and physical attributes or whatever else she wants to do-it’s her body, her life, her choices-and really is nobody else’s damn business. She paid her dues, took her licks, did it the old fashion way-she earned it. After all great art transcends time.

I almost find the interviewer abusive to Madonna. He forces her to answer questions and sometimes responses to questions for her self, and on very personal subjects. The more I watch Madonna's interviews the more I understand her attitude and how she had to stood up for her self all these years. When you watch these interviews in 2023, it just feels like a avant garde artist being bullied by chirstian interviewers all day long lmao.

He was playing devil's advocate and challenging her on her opinions/choices. That's what a good journalist does. The result was some stellar answers from her. It only made me respect her more. When you challenge your subjects, you get better, more interesting answers. I'd much rather an interviewer do this than what they do now, which is essentially kiss the celebrity's ass.
