I live just up the road from here and in 2018 we lost 700 houses to the lava. I love it here. Yes Hawaii is very expensive. Even bare lava rock on the slopes of a volcano are outrageous. You have to be resilient. Haul your own water, groceries are an hour or more away and there's no guarantee that the lava won't take it away again.
"atmospheric water generator" I think Hawaii would be a great place for one of these. There seems to be enough houses around that you could make a system to supply all the homes. In combination along with fog harvesting Rainwater collection. I believe you would have a surplus all the time.
If the lava came… would you have time to put it on a truck or trailer though? I mean… you’d need multiple trucks/trailers to be able to take all the structures away. Also, can you even get insurance for the structures when building on the lava? So many thoughts…
Yes, they would. Back in the eighties my boss and his family moved an entire church before the lava came. The rift zone is miles away and it takes many days if not weeks to reach this area.
Everyone will want moving services and a new place to park their structures. Virtually all the homes were inundated that were in the path. None were moved. Some people couldn't find help to move their possessions. The home's average value was around 450,000.
I appreciate her doing something different and she seems completely happy but I honestly would never get a good nights sleep raising my children in what seems to be a dangerous landscape.
Over time residents start to stop remembering because it is so beautiful. Owners need to not over improve. You cannot get homeowners insurance. It will happen again and these cottages are started as weekend retreats. People should maintain two homes.
Running out of solar when you have constant wind out there. Why not have a wind generator or two connected to the system as a hybrid so power is made regardless?
In Hawaii, everywhere you go there is tons and tons of VEGETATION. You can't see anything for all of the vegetation. To have nothing but a clear view all around you is amazing! That's the best thing about having a house on the lava.
The best building material to use for the Lava fields is Cindercrete Cindercrete is a mixture of cinder cement and water mixed and poured into a set of reusable forms walls are poured from 12"to 24" thick Cindercrete is fireproof termite proof rust rot and mold proof and has a high R value and good sound attenuation solid poured walls means no critters can live in your walls Cindercrete is the only local building material on the island
I admire the way she reuse and recycle materials to build a house like that. I bet she can live as carefree as she can be without worrying about any theft and things like that. Imagine those luxurious apartment and estate need so much security in place and this just doesn’t need at all.
Kilauea emits huge amounts and the amount can increase. It is called vog and it is 24 hours a day. Generally the fumes are carried away to the north and south but if and when it reverses, this area is close and it would be advisable to relocate until it clears.
@ Yes, the caldera does emit toxic fumes 24/7. Friends lost their protea farm and everything that could not be moved some years ago due to persistent vog.
People live 'flirting with danger' EVERYWHERE: Florida-hurricanes, Midwest-tornadoes, elsewhere-earthquakes, floods, blizzards, heat domes & more...Hawaii just happens to occasionally have volcanic eruptions. SCARY-yes, but so are the other natural disasters!
The fumes from the land would be horrific to breathe on a daily basis. What person in their right mind would come out to pick up your home when the volcano is erupting? Did you ever think the truck could get stuck or roads open to get out? Come on.
These people are the reason FEMA is worthless. They spend more time rescuing hippies and people who insist on building their house right smack in the middle of drought stricken dry brush in the name of spirituality.
There’s no “toxic fumes” from hardened lava: it’s just rock. And, yes ~ lava moves slowly, these homes are far down the mountain, and in most cases there would be plenty of time to relocate the tiny houses. This is a great idea!!
I’m very curious about the “septic system in the lava rock” she speaks of. Sounds sketchy. A quick Google search seems to back up the theory. On the other hand, the environmental impact would seem minute unless the movement begins to spread - no pun intended 😂
No way, and I also doubt if the Lava came them could pack they up and move it away, that is actually paying no respect to how fast mother nature can act when she is ready.
Agree. The colour scheme inside the home 'which is a lovely home' isn't much better. Boring soulless grey and white are the worst colours ever considering the landscape outside the home.
Nice place, but sorry to say your living in a disaster area and the land is cheap. you never know when the next flow will happen. That's why we locals don't buy property there.
She is absolutely delusional. How confidently she thinks someone would just bring a forklift and semi there to move her house during an eruption. 😂come on
Lava here in Hawai’i is very slow moving. There would be plenty of time. We live with Pele day in and day out. These are the perfect kind of homes for this area.
Interestingly, living where this lady does, in Puna, is way better air quality than say ,Kona Kailua. The prevailing winds blow all the vog to the west. East side the air is much cleaner. I used to live in the exact spot where the vog is the worst, in South Kona. It was really bad during the last eruption.
Spiritual evolution? 😂😂😂what is that? I don’t mean to be rude but that’s ridiculous….We lived on Maui for many years and the volcano’s vog is horrible. I can’t imagine living on the big island. It is not a healthy environment! I stopped watching this video. It’s ridiculous
I was so excited to read your insightful comment. It’s clear you go well out of your way to educate us all on the finer aspects of be human. If you can’t be a shining example of a human being, but a cautionary tale.

That is a really interesting perspective on the area, thanks for sharing!
I love that she embraced the area.. and loves it..... and the home is great! ❤
"To experience the newest land on Earth". Wow that's crazy to think about
Friends who have visited the Hawaii lava fields speak so highly of its amazing beauty and the awesome feelings it brings.
I love all of it !! From the reclaimed materials to being self sufficient. Awesome job!!

What a unique landscape ❤️
What fascinating symbolism carries that lava land. And you responding to it just the right way. I hope people catch on your positivism. ❤️

Wow. Surrealistic landscape paired with minimalism and sustainability. Exactly my taste.

The cost of living in Hawaii is just that damn high.
My dream is to vacation in Hawaii
I appreciate her doing something different and she seems completely happy but I honestly would never get a good nights sleep raising my children in what seems to be a dangerous landscape.
Arguably less dangerous a landscape than NYC 😂

Glad she likes it. Access to food, school, work and medical care would be my concern. Maybe it’s close by but roads could get blocked.
I grew up in Puna! So many memories… Aloha!

Diferente a lo que he visto, sin duda muy hermoso.
I love this! What a unique landscape and beautiful home!
Living there would definitely keep the truth of life and how fast it can change and how short it really is for us humans.
Nice work!
I love your tiny home.
Thats a Beautiful home
Loved this
So interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Idk much about volcanoes but doesnt a poisonous gas come from lava?
@@CHEKnows Molten lava, yes. Not hardened lava.

Loving living on lava! Aloha from Waiakahi'ula...
Very pretty, I love her art.
I'm glad you found your comfortable spot🎉.
Where do you li e when the guests visit ?
Thanks Jenna✨️✨️🎊🎉🎆💥.
JO JO IN VT 💞☃️
Ohhh boy....
Yeah she's nutty.
When she mentioned something about contemplation, I thought: "About what, your own death?"
Thanks👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🌺
I like the bathroom it is nice. I wonder if they make these with a tub.
Do you have permits to do this?
That's flirting with danger...I would never!

so cool ... aloha from HPP
She lost me at "several volcanic eruptions."
😂😂😂😂😂
She says if it erupts we put it on the trailer and drive away!😂😂
😂 they lost me at the thumbnail title.
😅😅😅😅😅
I think I'll pass on this one. It looks grim & depressing!
🎉 awesome 🎉
Just a matter of time before the next lava flow. Never seen any local born people (from Puna) living in that community.
Have called the Big Island home since 1983.
that "tiny home" may be a lot of things...but, "luxury"...??
Kinda lost me on that one.
Where does she live when people rent it out?

The cost of living in Hawaii is that bad, I guess

Well, the affordability of the land.

@@akindofmagick1I agree! People don’t know about these lava flows! The land is magical! As is Hawaii! I love Hawaii!
nice
Thanks for eliminating the intro, Jenna. I have been muting it for awhile now.
Its kool, but would i live on a volcano. NO, I DON'T THINK SO. JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF WOULD HAVE TO GIVE ME THE MOVING ORDERS TO DO THAT.

Looks like a big mess on the actual Temple of where Pele lives with a cultural pirate and Hawaii has many .
You always buying water , the home is good
Scarry living there
Uh, no thank you! VERY depressing and stark!!
I know.... really Ma'am?😮

@katherinekinnaird4408. Just someone's opinion that's all. Why do some people get salty over an opinion?
Thank you Romans 10:9-13❤
Like living in an abandoned dirt pit.
i want to live in hawaii for all the benefits
Show what she's pointing at and talking about ...not her saying it.
🙄
How cheap is lava land
Have been on Oahu for three years, but back then 5 to 8k for one acre in HOVE.
