If you notice, the predator takes out his prey in the way that his prey hunts and kills. The snake got the fangs of his blades. The wolf snuck up on the rabbit, so he snuck up on the wolf. The bear used its size and power to fight. So he fought the bear with his hands. He took out the native Americans with his own arrows. I thought that was a cool detail that most didn't notice!
Great catch !
It's crazy how strong and clever the feral predator is despite having no advanced equipment like the other yautja that we saw in previous films. I also find it crazy how he broke the bear's neck just by one haymaker
And slaughtered the poachers like cattle
It's way more than that. He beat the snake in reflexes and speed, beat the wolf with intelligence and cunning, beat the bear with pure brute strength, and beat the humans with projectiles. He found what each predator was most skilled in and beat them at it. Yet the snake proved he could be sensed, the wolf showed he could be hurt, the bear showed he can be toppled, and the humans were able to kill it.
Addie being ready to go full John Wick every time an animal is in any hint of danger is always a highlight.
Fun Fact: The dog was found at a shelter and was adopted specifically for the film. It had no previous screen training.
Hopefully they didn't put it down after they were done with it like the last time.
I wish someone would find and adopt me 😢😂
This was commented on every reaction I've seen for this movie. 😑
@KandiStomper maybe time to stop watching so many reactions of the same movie!?
@@FixTheLanes its one of the few major movies we natives get to feel proud of, so i'm basically obligated. 🤣
The reason they killed the bison and left the carcasses is because the skins were the valuable part. They didn’t care about waste. Hunting for hides basically wiped out the plains bison. Same thing happened with fur trappers and beaver in a lot of places.
We see a nearly identical scene of a slaughtered bison herd in the Kevin Costner film “Dances With Wolves”, a scene that I was immediately reminded of when I saw the skinned bison in this film.
And unfortunately their tongues ...what a waste
It was also a Federal policy to starve the native population.
And folks on trains heading west would use them for target practice.
You and every other reactor: "Nothing better happen to that dog!" lol
Prey IMHO is the best of the Predator movies.
Great reaction as always. fun fact about the dog, he/she wasn't a trained hollywood dog, they rescued him from a shelter. he/she was only supposed to be in the movie for one or two scenes, but the crew loved him so much they kept writing scenes for him.
That's amazing! 😃
The dog is a Carolina Dog (breed).
All true, BUT, what was missed was that the director did some private scene screenings and got told overwhelmingly, "MORE DOGGO". So, more doggo scenes were added.
Her name is Coco, and that's not quite right, they managed to add more scenes of her in the *editing* process, but they didn't do any reshoots/rewrites and principal photography was long over by the time they were doing test screenings.
Amber Midthunder, the lead actress who portrayed Naru, also starred in an X-Men series called Legion. It’s set in an alternate timeline from the films we’ve seen.
She was also in Roswell, New Mexico series.
By FAR the best movie in the Predator series. The score, the cinematography, the action sequences, the creativity, and all the call outs to the previous movies were perfect. I also liked that the protagonist of this movie was a girl. The only protagonist in the series showing that the chicks have the brains to fend off a predator. This movie was lights out!
Def watch Predator 2, there's a cool connection between that film and this one. Really hoping they do a sequel to this one
C'mon. That's a pretty trash movie. Most of them are. Even the original is pretty cheesy, and more about Arnold.
This one is, by far, the best of this series.
@@AndyMatts44 Sounds like you're just hating more than anything rather than genuinely critiquing the films. If you've nothing valid to say without it coming from a place of blind negativity, don't bother saying anything.
There will be a Prey 2,but the next movie focuses on an African tribe.
@@indio4-215in order of greatness 1,2 then Prey.
Love this movie! Its soo good and love how the actors and I think many in the Crew behind the scenes were actually native american!
Really a lot of love for detail went into this movie!
In an age where prequels, sequels, reboots and spin offs have taken over Hollywood, Prey really does shine and stand out above so many others that really didn't do anything for their respective franchises
It's crazy that you watched this movie about a band of Comanche during the weekend of The Comanche Nation Fair. A few of the actors from Prey were at the fair last year. Glad you loved it! "Numunu!!" (that's Comanche for "the people") 😊
Why did they kill all the Buffalo? Colonel Richard I. Dodge in 1867 at Fort McPherson, Nebraska, said to a group of British hunters: "Kill every buffalo you can. Every buffalo dead is an Indian gone"
Also, the skins were valuable for trade.
Amber MidThunder is such a compelling actor. She did such a great job here. She basically carried the whole movie.
19:00 The American Buffalo nearly went extinct, because hunters back then (the 1800s) would kill them for their fur and tongue. The population went from around 30 million in 1800 to about 1000 in 1894, when it became illegal to hunt them.
You really need to check your facts on this. Fur trappers didn't kill buffalo because there was no money in it. Fur traders didn't even except buffalo hide. It was only the Indians that traded buffalo skins and meat. Beaver, rabbit, deer, racoon, muskrat and even squirrel pelts paid more and were easier to clean and transport. Ulysses S. Grant Authorized the killing of as many buffalo possible, he saw the destruction of buffalo as solution to the country’s “Indian Problem.”
The buffalo were hunted and decimated for their fur and as trophies but mainly to precipitate the genocide of the Native Americans. The "famous" Buffalo Bill took a large part of this massacre.
This animal was sacred for them and on which their survival largely depended.
@@supafly7145 Exactly what I said. The only ones that killed the buffalo for fur and meat were the Native Americans and they did not decimate herds. There simply was almost no trade done in buffalo hide. They were huge and heavy and had to be tanned and toted and were not worth the effort. There were not enough trophy hunters to make a dent in the American bison herds. It was simply government taking action against the Indians.
"Kill every buffalo you can. Every buffalo dead is an Indian gone." - Colonel Richard Dodge
The pyramid stacks of buffalo skulls they left behind are almost unfathomable to conceive today.
The gun at the end is significant if you've watched Predator 2. Also, the pictograms were telling a story about what happens next.
Predator 2 is a must.
I loved this movie, it was interesting to see what technology and weapons the Predator would use in this time because everytime a Predator falls/dies they upgrade their tech and weapons. Plus that pistol is a nod to Predator 2
She was the predator, the alien was the prey, hence the movie's name. She was hunting it before she even knew what it was.
I actually really appreciate that the dog doesn’t die in this movie. It’s such a common trope that if a dog appears in an action/horror movie it’s going to end up dead, but they avoided that in this movie and it still works
This is the first time that I have seen the English version of this movie. I have previously only watched the Commanche language version.
The reason this Predator has done so well compared to all the other sequels, was it's simplicity. A predator comes to Earth and is on the hunt. It's prey must survive and if they want to live, eventually become predators themselves. They don't try to throw all this other convoluted BS, like making the predators genetically enhanced, or giving humans access to some super predator tech. Just let the damn predator do what it does best. Be a lethal horrifying hunter.
And this has probably already been answered, but the reason the French hunters killed all the buffalo was for the pelts/skins only. The native Americans would be disgusted by this because they would leave so much to go to waste. And the native Americans never killed so many where the overall population would suffer or be hugely effected in a negative way. Where as the white hunters would kill so many that it seriously effected its population going in to the future.
This movie is 10 times more complex than the previous ones.
@@WheresWaldo05 Do you notice the difference between my comment and yours? I speak about the simplicity of the movie, and then back that claim up with what I believe to be sound points. Now you of course are allowed to believe whatever you want to believe. And hell, you may even be right. But you've made zero case in backing up your statement. So what's the point of making it?
@@jeremybr2020 Cause it is MY opinion and i am automatically correct in MY world with MY opinion. I don't have to prove anything to you to further believe my own opinion.
You sound like an aethiest.
@@WheresWaldo05 So......the point of your comment was to reinforce or just re-state your own opinion? Also you seem to be of the belief that just because it's YOUR own opinion, that this somehow makes it automatically right. If you were tell people that you are of the opinion that the moon is made of cheese, would this make you automatically right? Sure, it might be right in YOUR world. But depending on if you're an idiot or not, that might not count for much.
I sound like an aethiest? First off....learn to spell. Secondly, what exactly does an atheist sound like?
They really did a strong woman right. I would not fuck with her. Geez. Such a badass
No matter how many times I watch this movie that war cry after she kills the predator always gets to me. Straight chills!!
For once I would like to see the predator win one. This would have been the perfect opportunity. The main character wasn't overly likeable. I mean she relied on tricks and sacrificed others.. not the best opponent for the predator. From a moral stand point he deserved the win more than she did.
I remember seeing a review where they talked about a triumphant moment where the character just felt flat. When I saw that part, I knew that was the scene they were referring to & I couldn’t believe we were watching the same film, cause I had goosebumps all over..
for it falls flat a bit, bc she didnt really win through her own skills in the end - she won bc the predator apparently forgot how is own gear worked.
@@thahoule7924 maybe try watching the movie with your eyes open next time?
A Predator, a species FAR more advanced than humans, travels the stars to earth and wipes out an entire modern day elite special forces unit, but a 90 pound sTrOnG wOmAn from the 1800s with sticks and stones can handle one no problem because "they don't think she can"
Fucking CRINGE
25:10 Her brother is yelling "NOT FAIR!!" when the Predator goes invisible again during their fight
Perfect reaction. Thank you.
The way they utilized the dog, and made everyone continuously fear for its safety throughout the movie was genius audience manipulation.
Predator 2 was the first time we saw the hunter’s projectile and solid weapons, more used than the Plasma Caster in the original. That’s why it was worth seeing it first. The novelty of _Prey_ is seeing the “other” guided weapons of the hunter, similar to the shoulder cannon but not an energy blaster.
Addie, I concur. 😅
Addie throughout this whole movie: “IS THE DOG DEAD”
I've watched a bunch of Prey reactions and I think that the people requesting it should include a "the dog lives" disclaimer, so the reactor doesn't spend the whole time worrying about it.
This is my favorite Predator movie and is most re-watchable for me. There are so many great moments and the lead in it is really amazing and believable. So glad you did this one Addie. You are one of my top reactors anyway so this was just icing on the cake.
Theres a lot of little details that can be missed on the first watch
thought was only one who thought was best one
Nice reaction Addie, and I enjoyed your look of smug satisfaction right there at the end!
Honestly your missing out by not checking Predator 2, such an underrated instalment and has a connection to this film.
This was the “brother’s” first acting gig, and he nailed it.
Yeah, gotta say I'm actually really looking forward to him doing more work. Honestly...the female lead has the weakest acting of all, but it's still plenty competent. It's her first starring role, though, so I'm betting it was just an issue of pressure and not really knowing what to do with the spotlight. I don't hold it against her, and it didn't really impact the movie negatively, in my opinion.
But really, everyone did a pretty impressive job, for being really a big pack of nobodies. I really want more of all of them in other movies. Breath of fresh air, really. Even the dog who was just a shelter rescue. That dog acted the fuck out of its part.
When Naru ended up in the mud and in a tangle of tree roots, it was just like how Arnold ended up in the original. I was waiting for the Predator to show up and not see her, and then it didn't happen. I was waiting for it and was happy it didn't.
Also, Addie didn't notice Predator ships returning in the end credit scene...
The net that was used by the trappers to try and catch him, goes back the first movie, how they tried to use a net to capture him.
I share the same sentiment in regards to this film and the first one as well Addie.
2:37 If it wags, it lives. 😂
Great reaction. So glad you liked it.
Addie: "I think I might like this one more than the first Predator".....
Seventeen Year Old Me: "Yeah, whatever......."
Fifty-Three Year Old Me: "Yup."
This is a really good addition to the Predator world.
Love this movie, best follow-up to original Predator.
I loved her victory cry at the end!
Great reaction Addie, there is a call back/ forward to Predator 2 in this movie. I hoped you would have watched that one before this one. I love all your reactions tho!! 🙂❤
Everyone keeps missing the ending animation that shows the coming of the rest of the predators and a huge battle.
@Addie Great reaction. I’m N8v American and the best part of the movie is the Sister Brother relationship. It reminds me of my Grandkids. That is exactly their relationship.
I found myself thinking that the brother didn't have to die. It would have been nice to see them both defeat the predator together. :)
This was a winner from the first viewing. Great rival to the first movie and easily beats the 2nd.
Naru and Sarii are unbeatable!!
16:05 ... the editing addition I've always needed! Looking forward to more! hint hint
The net kill is my absolute favorite of all the movies!!
Addie: "DON'T YOU DARE!!" never never never threaten the dog in front of Addie!
An instant top reaction of yours!
Take care of yourself, Addie!! Great to hear from Ollie!!
I learned that Naru's whisper is the Comanche way of summoning a demon. Something along those lines. Quite fitting for a predator
Yes actually when she whistles. In Navajo traditions it's taboo to whistle at night like many native tribes it's calling out the evil spirits when she tells the other hunters she saw a monster it's awesome that was included
More of a prequel to predator 2 There's direct links to that movie ...The predator species themselves can live thousands of years This particular predator is learning its hunting skills ,When they rack up more kills they'll upgrade their weaponry to , if they survive ...Yeah I prefer this movie over any of the other predator movies.. And I grew up with the original ... Yeah you should watch the end credits it's moving paintings there's a twist at the end
Addie's first reaction to the Net Ball was great!!!
Addie do you take movie suggestions ? If so I have one Bridge to Terabithia.
Great movie and reaction! I Luv this movie!❤ Amber Midthunder nails the role of monster hunter. Great start to October! Im glad you enjoyed this not to scary not to gory Predator movie! I feel its better than the previous sequels in this franchise! JMO. Luv ya Addie ❤💛
“Should have listened to my story.” -Taabe
Hi Addie...I recommend "Predator 2" ...it's connected and I think you gonna like it
I love this Movie!!
This has a little "Easter egg" in it that directly ties it to Predator 2. It's a decent sequel and it has the great Danny Glover starring in it.
Which is why I believe there will be another Predator sequel to see how they got the gun
@@scottdarden3091 The end credits kind of explain it but not the details of the fight.
@@scottdarden3091the credits explained it. The comic is no longer canon, stfu.
Lots of great references to the original predator movie. "If it bleeds we can kill it!"..., Covered in mud resting in tree branches and smoking cigars. Haha 😆❤💛
I did like this movie better than the original. My apologies to Arnold. Amber Midthunder can run circles around Arnie.
SO GLAD you reacted to this!
As a side note - this movie actually ties in with the ending of Predator 2 in an Easter Egg sort of way in the same way that Predator 2 set the ground work for the Alien vs. Predator movies.
Great reactions. If you like this you should watch "Alien Vs Predator" with Lance Henriksen ( The Terminator and Bishop from Aliens ).
They are fur traders. They killed all the Buffalo for their fur skins to trade. -OG
Addie would be more scared if the movie was about a snake hunting people, lol
you really need to watch predator 2 now. hope to c that and hopefully u will like it
There’s no shame in liking this film more than the original. It is that good.
Yep. If the original never came out, this would be in my top five "alien sci-fi" movies.
Scott, it's a woke, feminist movie. hated it.
@@ROBERTPUNU That's reaching. I guess Alien AND Aliens AND Alien 3 were all feminist movies as well.
Oh, I see the bot user name. Troll harder, China/Russia.
@@crewchief5144 Lol no way
@@ROBERTPUNU Oh no there's a woman in a movie, my fragile self-esteeeeeeeeeem!
We all loved this movie. Great reaction as well
AMN, sHOULDA WATCHED PREDATOR 2 FIRST. this one bears all other predator movies
When it first released, you could watch with Native American languge! I dont know if that options was aded to the phyaical media like DVDs Blurays, etc.
Legit reaction
29:01, If you ever watch Predator 2, remember that pistol.
Great movie ! 😂🇺🇸🇮🇹🇲🇽
At least as good as the original Predator. Which one you like best, I think, comes down to which genre you prefer before it goes full-frontal sci-fi horror. Predator was an action movie, Prey was a coming-of-age period drama.
Personally, I think both are equally good.
I love how you mentioned Naru growing and learning from her mistakes as the film goes on, but she mirrors the Predator in that respect. The Predator, despite getting injuries in pretty much every fight he's in, gets more and more overconfident and cocky, learning that there's nothing on this planet that can really challenge him, which makes him totally unprepared for Naru to do exactly that. Naru learns exactly how outmatched she is, and learns how to narrow that gap. It's genius, and rather beautiful.
u should watch he hole credits painting animation, it teases something
Addie "panicling"as she says "I can get through anything for an hour and a half."
Addie stressing so much at the skinned at the skinned a snake... adorable.
Not sure if you noticed, but this Predator watches until is sees "one animal kill another" then goes after the predator... it is "proving itself" against bigger and bigger animals.
Oh and the buffalo slaughtering was historical fact. Native tribes honoured the buffalo and used it as food... so Europeans "slaughtered" them to demoralize and weaken them... or tried to. It is way they are so sparse and endangered today.
Side note, they wanted a specific breed of dog for accuracy... that pup was the only one they could find, and it wasn't trained the way a "normal" acting animal would be so... even more amazing how well it did.
When the original came out it was incredible, and I loved the idea of it. When this movie came out the story was more complete and modern cameras and FX made it even better. To me.
I enjoyed this movie too!
Definitely watch Predator 2 and Predators (2010)
The weapons of this predator were meant to be not as high tech as the 87’ predator does.
So many people say this but I really don’t believe it. I think the technology is just different because this is a different low rank Predator or Yatuja that was sent to earth for the reason of canvassing and studying its wild life. I think low rank predator= low rank weapons. Thinks like the plasma shoulder cannon and the mini-nuke gauntlet are only available to the high-ranking hunters. Or at least that’s my theory.
@@A_Planner_and_a_DreamerPredators also have an honor code, to play fair, match technology as close as it can for their hunt.
The director, Dan Trachtenberg, hasn’t done a lot yet, but he’s hit it out of the park every time.
Can you please watch Predator 2. Please.
The buffalo hunters would only take the hide and tongue and leave the meat behind. Such a disgraceful waste of an animal
I was literally thinking about this movie this morning.
Check the Predator 2 (1990), you find some very interesting easter egg in this. ;)
This is my favorite Predator movie, it is that good. I hope the Sequel is at least half as good, but that probably won't be out for 2 more years.
Great movie. The only Predator film I had seen before this was the 2010 film, PREDATORS.
You might like (Predators). Also, there is something in (Predator 2)
that relates to (Prey). This reaction.
Interesting fact. Sari is not the dogs name it Comanche for dog.
It was just a nice looking show without any sense.
You need to watch Predator 2. Why? Because it links to the story of Prey at the end of Predator 2. You'll appreciate that fact. You'll just have to watch it to see how. -OG
lol, thanks for making me feel really fucking old :D
A great film shot on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation in Southern Alberta Canada.
4:30 Hunting because someone says you can't is not the greatest motivator. That's a selfish motive. As a member of a tribe, you should want to hunt to provide food or safety for your people. That is the greatest motivator. There's a lot to this movie that I didn't vibe with. But the cinematography was pretty good.
Sunday with Addie. What a great day!
Recommend you to check and hope you would watch and reach out to Outlander (2008). It's my favorite human vs. alien movie.
The dog is Coco, she is an American Dingo. An ancient breed believed to have come to North America with the first people across the land bridge. She is a rescue dog that had no acting training but the director, cast and crew loved her so she was in the movie. She now lives with her forever family, that happens to train animals for movies.
There are three movies in between and two AvPs that you should also watch and weapons she gets from the hunters are shown a bit briefly in predator 2 which came early and the other movies came on much later (you should see all the movies so 5 more movies)
Predator 2 tries to explain their culture a bit. I'd recommend that one next if you are down for one more.
a fun fact, the composer, Sarah Schachner, did the music for 3 assassin's creed games
Fuck. The dog was the MVP. Weil. Girl boss was the MVP.
Native Americans are like forest ninjas.
Is that racist? I'm sorry if it is.
21:10 Yeah, that’s a horrible way to go. I feel sorry for that guy.
