  • Aroab, Namibia. Believe it or not, but this is a small village where I grew up for 16 years.
We decided to go back after 10 years. Revisiting my hometown brought back incredible memories. There is approximately 5000 people in the village. It's situated South-East of Namibia. Surrounded by desert mountains and endless plains of grass, sand and rocks. It's a dry village. Rain is very scarce in this warm and dry place. People rely on borehole water. If the rain eventually appears, the grass and flowers is quick to grow and the village comes to life.
The people in the village is extremely friendly and reliable. Everyone helps everyone and they all care for one another. Everyone know each other by name and surname. In the village center you will find everything you need. From a police station, bank, postal office, school, shops, restaurant, petrol station, hotel, hospital, churches and many more.
This village goes through extreme conditions. Heavy winds where we have experienced winds so strong, it destroys infrastructure in its way. Heat so warm, no fan or cooling system works. Rain and thunder so big and powerful, it changes everything. It's such a beautiful place. The people that live here, truly are physically and mentally so strong. We have so much respect for them.
I am grateful for this place.
