    The crate is wayyy to small for the poor guy, no wonder he busted him self out its way to cramped for him int here, plus it too flimsy for that type of breed.

    I'm glad to see other husky owners go through the same torment I did, thpugh it's sad. people just don't understand northern breeds. after living with dogs my whole life, it took a trip to the bookstore and the purchase of a lengthy tome dedicated to huskies before I could even start to understand this breed and how they are so different from the average domesticated breeds. now, I revel in their eccentricities.

    Huskies are notorious for getting bored and finding ways to entertain themselves. He is more than likely not upset about being in a crate (he looked old enough to be crate trained) he probably got bored with it and wanted to go do something else.

  • @margotmooney6871

    My Doberman pup also does this same thing to escape his crate. Zip ties help tremendously. His crate is much larger in relation to his size, and he still chose to get out. He only spends a couple hours a few days a week at best in his crate out of necessity, not taking into account that he's been getting out. He gets a ton of exercise and stimulation each day with runs, long walks, training sessions, and regular play sessions with my other dog. Some dogs just don't like being confined. Crating is our only option at the moment, and is used in ADDITION to training. I do not plan on crating him forever, but it's something I have to do until he learns proper behavior.
    Due to his age and still learning proper house manners, he will get into the trash and chew on items and otherwise help himself to things he should not have while I am gone due to boredom. This can be worrisome, as dogs do not automatically know what is healthy or harmful to them- especially ingesting items. Age and developmental stages play a major role in contributing to this very common behavior. I do leave a bone in the crate with him, and remain patient while I work daily on building his confidence so he can trust that I will be back, and that it's ok for him to be alone for short periods of time. He is extremely affectionate and social by nature, (Velcro dogs....) and dislikes being alone for any period of time.
    The way to address separation anxiety is by patiently working on building up their confidence through training and games on a constant basis. One way to work on their separation anxiety is to tether them on a short line and step one step away from them just out of reach. Don't give any cues or talk to your dog. If your dog is calm, take a step forward, reaching them, and reward with praise and affection. Gradually build up the distance and time before stepping forward. They will learn that being separated from you is not you disappearing forever and will build their confidence that you will return, and in the meantime it's ok to stay calm.
    For these sensitive (affectionate and social) and intelligent dogs, they need a firm but gentle method. The rules should never be bent, but coddling or overstimulating your dog with affection before you leave them in your crate sends the message that there's something going on that they need comfort for. It's marking the crating as a stressful situation. If you treat crating your dog as a calm and normal daily task, they will get the message eventually. Try to have patience, most dogs will need time to counter-condition their natural instincts and previous associations.
    Save the affection for when you arrive back home and they've behaved in their crate. That will reinforce their good behavior. Dogs form associations very quickly, and it is sometimes hard to counter-condition them. The negative associations are far more strong than positive- generally speaking, going by their nature. If they learn to associate crating as a positive experience with a reward (affection and praise) when they are let out they will learn to accept it and trust you with what you ask of them. Not immediately receiving affection when you arrive home to find them out of their crate is an appropriate negative association with their own bad behavior, as is a firm 'NO' when they destroy, chew, or otherwise behave in an inappropriate manner.
    I hope this helps any other dog owners with their own frustration with their dogs.

    Yeah, my husky mixed is an escape artist too. Just today I crated him, inside a wooden shed with the handle removed from the inside door, within our 6ft wooden fenced yard. I found out he learned to open the shed window. GOD he out smarted me. I guess I have to take him to work now unless there is something else I could do. Walking him twice a day and playing catch doesn't seem to stop him.

    I believe in crating. However, that crate should be bigger and should have a pad, blanket and a toy to keep the dog amused. Putting a dog in a too small crate with a hard cold bottom and nothing to do is just cruel IMO.

    • @Nyx600
      @Nyx600 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Huskies will eat anything soft, toys last mere seconds, and then the cloth may get stuck in their throat. The crates are normally small as they don't have to live in there, only eat and sleep there, they like small areas to sleep in as it makes them feel safe. Just a bit of insight, that's what we do with ours. :)
      ps. we use straw ;)
      pps. then aagain, this is just how we use crates with our lot, I can't claim to know exactly why the dog was in there xD

      Nyx600 What in God's name are you talking about ?? This is plainly DISGUSTING. You know nothing about dogs. This crate isn't nearly big enough for this dog. He can neither stand nor lie down properly in it.

    • @Nyx600
      @Nyx600 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Oh please insult me more. No. You obviously don't own any substantial number of huskies for any amount of time. If you did you would know that huskies curl up into tiny balls to sleep any often don't need much space (Do wolves live in caverns? no they live in small holes that they can barely crouch in) You would also know that you cannot keep a husky where they don't want to be. It just aint happening.
      Thanks for calmly conversing with me.

    After crate training mine, he's had the run of the house for the last ten years. He's a good boy indeed! And yes, that crate is the right size. One that is too big needs to have a box or something in it to reduce the size to a den-like size. A blanket over it with the front uncovered also makes it more den-like for the the dog.

    i'm a husky owner & i can say there are definitely bigger kennels. this kennel is decent sized, but there could definitely be something more comfortable for him/her.. that way you can fit a water and/or food bowl in there for him/her. he probably wants to escape all the time cause there's nothing for him/her to do in there.. give a toy or two at least. my husky's kennel is big enough for him to eat, sleep and play. he loves to sleep in odd positions too so it helps that there's room for him.

      For kennelling a dog, you don't want to put food or water in the kennel, you don't want your dog to have an accident in the kennel. That's like kennelling 101 . The kennel is meant for if you leave your house and you don't want any accidents or things destroyed the dog can be put up . Huskies are notorious for tearing things up . I have one and I kennel her at night and when I'm away because she is horrible at tearing things up when I'm not there and also she sometimes has accidents . The dog being kenneled should be able to stand up, turn, and lay down . It's not meant for a dog to roll around and do somersaults in it .

    Huskies are highly intelligent problem solvers. They climb chain link fences and laugh at you on the way over. Which can be a problem. As they also love to hunt small animals, like cats. Mine did a number on the canadian geese population that use my property like a mobil mart, while crapping everywhere. Had to keep a straight face w/ the animal officer asking me if I saw anything. "Awww, that's just terrible, didn't see a thing!" With my huskies burping up feathers behind me.

      This is probably a large size create recommended for h husky dogs...so unless it is custom made you don't get a taller create than this. Add long add the dog had room to turn it is large enough

    • @EmiTheNinja
      @EmiTheNinja 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jacqueline Correa we have a larger cage then this for our husky you can get XL and XXL cages made by kong at petsmart we prefer that a cage be tall enough that when the dog fully stands up just his ears touch the top. and that the length is long enough for him to lay down completely and have some space between his nose and tail. this dog isnt in extreme distress but very smart and it may be a good idea for the owner to get 1 size larger of a cage. we have a cage the folds liek this we zip tied all the movable parts so that he cant break it down

    • @jacquelinecorrea5122
      @jacquelinecorrea5122 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      EmiTheNinja I have a large size crate for my husky, now granted he is still a puppy (10 months old) so maybe I will need an upgrade but at the size he is now, my husky uses a large sized crate and doesn't looked distressed. He fits fine in the size we have. Really crates shouldn't be used for long periods of time anyway

    • @EmiTheNinja
      @EmiTheNinja 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jacqueline Correa yea we actually changed our crate 3 times till we got one we felt was comfortable size for our husky once he was full grown. mine is slightly larger then most being his father was a large wholly he weighs around 70 pounds but isn't over weight were most Siberians average in the 50s to 60s. we try not to leave him in long usually about 2-3 hours at a time since we come home at lunch ect, and let him run around for about and hour or 2 till we need to head back to work or school. we would let him roam the house but hes known to be very destructive including ripping through an entire door. so for his safety and the safety of our house we have crate trained him

    • @skaterpawzgames5049

    This crate is too small. Also people against crate training are wrong. My husky was trained to like her crate, she feels comfortable there, often times she places her toys inside or goes inside on her own free will. When she is left alone, shes free to roam the back yard or once inside she is crated. Otherwise she would roam the house, destroy things, open doors and dead bolts. Wouldn't want her walking out the front door!! I feel more peace at mind knowing shes safely crated when i'm away.

    • @21Asomugha21
      @21Asomugha21 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wolf Fandom lol do my research? i dont need to because i own husky. Actually my husky hates small places, she will even open a room door and leave if its closed. Yes they do destroy thing, but if you're a strong alpha, you can train your husky to not destroy things and listen to all commands, its called respect. Also she never tries to escape our escape proof and safe back yard. Like you said, huskies are smart dogs, but only as smart as their owner.

    • @Faeyeful
      @Faeyeful 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      JayMonOne "Otherwise she would roam the house, destroy things, open doors and dead bolts. Wouldn't want her walking out the front door!! I feel more peace at mind knowing shes safely crated when i'm away." in Germany dogs are not even allowed in crates for more than very short time (2h/day max). I owned dogs more than 28 years, never had a single one in a crate (nobody really does it in germany). We never had anything destroyed, break outs or anything bad happening to them or our stuff... It's simple training. When you want to own a dog just spend a little time. We never had to spend specific hours, they learned it by growing up in the first days roaming in the house. And then they can decide on their own if they want to be in a small or bigger space (they have their places, or love lying under the table, the small one under the couch every once in a while), sun or shadow, drinking or playing when we are gone. Who would i be to decide that for them? Dogs don't simply "destroy" things without a reason, esp. when they accept a place as their "home" and the home of the pack. In case of a house fire etc "safely crated" is a 100% death sentence too.

    and for the record, first my husky ate the plastic liner, pushed his paws through the bottom and walked the cage to whereever he wanted. when he wanted out, he broke the door down like this video showed in seconds. I put luggage locks on all sides, so he simply bent the cage open like the hulk.

    I think dog gates are better then crates for dogs who get very upset like this one because it helps them feel more at ease.

    I have had my Husky since he was 6 weeks old and he had always been crate trained it's not mean or a punishment he knows it's HIS he sleeps there and will often open the door to go in when he could just lay on the couch with us. It's alot safer then him chewing through dangerous things like cords when we are not home people need to think before they state something that they are ill educated about.

    My Malamute hurt himself very badly escaping from his crate (same style as this one). I had cable tied all the edges and walls together, as he had escaped many times already, and cable tied the door shut everyday. He chewed them off, and desperately squeezed himself between the roof of the crate and the top of the gate. he got stuck there, hanging by his lower abdomen, without any paws touching the ground. I had only been out for 1hr and he bled everywhere and was very hurt for many weeks. I threw the cage out and started bringing him to work everyday. I am tetiously teaching him to be home alone out of his crate... without chewing the drywall.

    Keeping your dog in such a small cage is in humane. Please think of how frustrating it is for such a smart breed to be in such a small space for long periods of time.

    My dog is very well behaved and is an angel when I am around. His problem is that he has separation anxiety, so when I'm not home, he tears things up. Therefore, he goes to his room (kennel) when I'm not home. He is half husky too by the way. Although, I do agree with you that this kennel is too small for a husky, he didn't seem to be able to move around that much in there.

  • @Tiomara
    @Tiomara 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    That sort of defeats the purpose of a kennel.

  • @loveracinthrumyveins
    @loveracinthrumyveins 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, he does. He can't even fully stand/ lay down in it. His tail is sticking out that back. It doesn't take a genius to see the dog is squished.

    Personally, I'd have a larger cage even though it is more expensive. In addition, I'd remove the dog's collar to prevent the possibility of it becoming caught up anywhere in the cage. Dogs have been known to choke this way. A nice comfy mat/bed to lie on wouldn't hurt. Also, some kind of toy that the dog can pass time with, one that's safe for the dog to be left unattended with of course. Not a rubber bone, or chew stick - again a choking hazard when there is nobody to come to the dogs aid.

    Just thought id say that in this video, yeah probably not big enough for this dog... however for most huskies, if given the right sized crate from when theyre puppies, and if its used appropriately, will end up cherishing their crates, and you will find them sleeping or resting in their crates at will. Huskies are den dwelling dogs, and their crate (when used appropriately) simulates their den.

    Not sure where you live but I got my large Cage from Wal-Mart. I also zip tied the sides so it couldn't pop down like that. Really works for my Husky. Plus giving him a bone might help. :) If they have something to chew on sometimes it helps. Not sure if you tried anything like that but if you haven;t see if it helps. :D

  • @AmandaStaller

    our husky has a cage slightly bigger than this one. they only need to be able to lay down completely and to turn completely in a circle in it. and it obviously has to be tall enough for them too.

    Actually crates are used for quiet time, sleep, travel, and when the owner is away. Please look at the various dog training cites for references. Too many people personify animals and that's the problem.
