Carl Evans I wish that they would have showed Robinson in his second yr in MLB he was being allowed to show his true personality and ppl did not like the fact he was COMBATIVE&COMPETITIVE.
to them jackie wasnt black he was there team mate, plain and simple, colour didnt matter to them, the respect was earned not just given, jackie was a hell of a player
Jackie out here refusing his teammates offer to literally knock some asshat unconscious after he got spiked. Thats respect, though to be honest if I were in his shoes I'd probably just let them do it lmao
I mean the dude that’s presumably gonna be thrown at isn’t necessarily an asshat. He’s just gonna receive retaliation for his teammates action. The dude that spiked Jackie wasn’t the one who was gonna be punished by getting beaned lol
Before this moment though, Branch Rickey told Jackie he wanted to be strong enough (mentally) to not be reactionary. Jackie here wanted his boys to be an extension of him, who was himself an extension of Branch.
Love it how those Dodgers looked after Jackie. When everyone else hated Jackie and did terrible things to him, they didnt hesitate to stand up for him. I mean, look at how fast Stanky told the pitcher "next guy up, you hit him right in the head". While that wasn't the best course of action, it shows just how devoted they were to protecting Jackie
If only it was like that in real life. When Jackie made his actual debut, even his teammates didn’t like him. Sometimes going so far as to do things that made him look worse.
even tough im really really late with this comment I'm just gonna say it nobody liked him at first I can't really remember what he did or said to make them like him but it took a hell of a long time to do so
Not everyone else hated Jackie Robinson, Cleveland actually had a black player of their own in 1947, Larry Doby, and even some in the press spoke highly of Jackie. The public had a mixed reaction of positive, angry and uncertain folks. From what I've read, St. Louis, Philadelphia and Boston were the three teams and cities where he was treated particularly bad though. The Phillies were incredibly nasty to him, even more than the film 42 showed (much to the rage of his teammates).
I think of all the hell Jackie Robinson went through as a player using God-gifted natural ability and yet today so many athletes abuse drugs and complain about their paychecks not being big enough. It almost makes me want to cry.
R.I.P Chadwick Aaron Boseman (T'Challa) 😭Fighted colon cancer while filming avengers infinity war endgame and black panther A true Legend Wakanda Forever
R.I.P. Chadwick you inspired millions with your amazing performance of Jackie Robinson. Most people know him for black panther, but we’ll never forget how amazing he was in this movie. Rest in Power.
Jackie Robinson is a legend to me. I have so much respect for him. I feel bad for all the hell he went through. At least he was strong enough to join a baseball team. Leave All hate behind and just move on.
Yeah, right after I posted this comment like 15 minuets later my dad got me the movie, I seen that part, when number 12 came out and started yelling at the manager i was thinking finally someone yelled at him.
Chadwick was truly a fighter and a warrior. This man was dying of cancer and still out there making movie after movie. I know most remember him for Black Panther, but he’ll always be Jackie Robinson to me. Atleast he’s with Jackie and Branch in the afterlife. RIP Chadwick Boseman...rest east bud.
Anyone who can continue to work while battling that kind of illness deserves the highest praise, though I hate how it can take people in their prime when they have so much left to give. RIP Chadwick, you are still missed and remembered.
this guy is one of my personal heroes, i played ball through college i love the game, understand the pressures. This guy did it with class and most importantly, balls. We need heroes like him today, hard to find though.
one of the reasons I am going to purchase a vintage or replica 42 jersey. This little bit n the movie hits a soft spot in my heart. Remember, rise above those who doubt you. Never meet the enemy on their own low ground. Be better than the enemy. Show no fear for God is with you.
Jackie Robinson was 37 when he retired after the 1956 season. Chadwick Boseman was 36 when he played Jackie in the movie. Robinson died at age 53 in 1972 and Chadwick died 10 years younger at 43 on 8/28/2020 the day MLB celebrated Jackie Robinson Day.
Because this guy did it because Jackie was black and machado just did it because he’s machado I mean it was wrong for him to do it but it didn’t like break his ankle so get over it
Mason Slaughter I live in St. Louis and Enos Slaughter was one of the best Cardinals to ever put on a Cards uniform. It's shows that people can overcome racism. Slaughter was hard nose. Jackie under the day to day pressure is one of the best ever.
Rebecca Briscoe That was an accident. Slaughter was known for being highly competitive and would sometimes spike people when running too close to people.
That’s when they used metal in their cleats. Jackie wouldn’t let his teammates sink to Enos Slaughter’s level by hitting him. So getting him out was the right and mature way to get revenge.
It was also not for racial reasons. Jackie was not the first nor last to get spiked by Slaughter. He was known to spike players if it meant getting on base and helping the team win.
Jackie is the best player to play in MLB cause he went through a lot he was threatened and called the N word but he still proved himself and that he could play in this league
FortniteAllNight And accomplished so many achievements in my opinion he is the greatest player of all time I am proud to be a dodgers fan. We are the Brooklyn dodgers of Los Angeles

I don't know about the best, but probably the most important. I wonder if he knew he was paving the way for Antonio Brown, Daryl Strawberry, etc. if he would have put up with all that crap? Read up on the first Harlem Globetrotters. They would get threatened before games if they didn't win. Then someone would come in and threaten them if they didn't lose. They'd win the game and hurry up and get on the bus.
That was Red Barber, the predecessor to Vin Scully. Had a classic southern style of broadcasting (from what I've heard) that endeared him to Brooklynites.
Chadwick died yesterday. Most remember him for Black panther. I'll remember him for this
This movie was actually my introduction to Chadwick which was why I thought it was cool when he got cast as Black Panther
Creepy Closet same. I was ecstatic when Marvel announced that he was gonna be the Black Panther.
Ben Hall this came on tv the other night and thought that same thing. RIP.
Same here. I thought this acting performance was one for the ages. Rest In Peace Chadwick 😭❤️
I remember him here actually before black panther
"Maybe tomorrow we can all wear 42 then they won't be able to tell us apart" ⚾️. RIP Chadwick Boseman. RIP #42

I love Jackie's mindset. He's not going to let their bull keep him down. This movie is so inspirational. What a good American movie.
veryfine69 That is why I love this movie! After seeing it for the first time I was so motivated after so I went and ran a few miles!
very fine one of the best of 2013
Nightmare AJ Bushey Someone's Yandere As stated before Chadwick Boseman was robbed of a OSCAR NOMINATION.

Jeremy McCommons very few people on the team did that. The ones who did got traded off the Dodgers pretty quick.

'Why this game is tighter than a pair of wet shoes on a rainy day.' Ah, to be a baseball fan in the golden age!
would've been awesome, especially to watch the legends
spitfire4sergi cool talk
He said a pair of “new shoes,” not “wet shoes”
This game is tighter than buttfucking two virgins with no lube 😂

Amen
Livingston Hampton that is so true Jackie Robinson had a natural ability. But now all the new people use drugs
Rest in Power to one of the most amazing and influential actors out there. You’ll definitely be missed.
Yes. But We will never ever forget our King t'challa the black panther.
I love how they protected their brother. This is a beautiful scene.

I really hate that Jackie died so young. He was such a good guy! This movie was long overdue.
