I've seen some pretty weak offerings from Global News, but this one take the cake. Aside from the Veltman terrorism case, nothing else happened in Canada yesterday?

In Canada, section 83.01 of the Criminal Code[1] defines terrorism as an act committed "in whole or in part for a political, religious or ideological purpose, objective or cause" with the intention of intimidating the public "…with regard to its security, including its economic security, or compelling a person, a government or a domestic or an international organization to do or to refrain from doing any act."

Why must the church be demolished? Can't it be preserved? Something appears problematic with the situation involving the police in Canada; it's rather absurd. This building carries beauty and history, and we should safeguard it, regardless of funds for restoration. There are numerous even older buildings worldwide, so why not in Canada? The government should allocate funds for such purposes, and there shouldn't be property taxes for buildings like this.

I was so heartbroken, obviously, by the second world war story. I really even asked myself why they would not spare the details about children. Why did I need to hear that on top of everything whats happening now. Until it stroke me I am being emotionally manipulated. Why suddenly now all those stories about 1940s Nazis, why all the "rise in antisemitism" special reports? To take attention away to what Israel is doing in Gaza, among all, to children? What is your agenda Global News? And the very tendentional interview on the west block with Alberta premier. You are NOT independent solid news. You have agenda.

As someone who is a Lithuanian Jew in canada it’s been very hard for me to find out about my family who stayed. Granny left just before ww1 only a few years later her entire village was ended and now I as a young woman have a very large missing part of my family tree with no answers as to what happened to some of her siblings, cousins and friends. I would like more work and journalist investigations into how many nazis reside in canada and what they have told or not told to their own children. You don’t get to kill Jews let alone genocide the entire Lithuanian Jewish community and not cause generations of trauma for Canadian Jews

I know this sounds so naive but have always wondered...do all criminal defense lawyers get into that field knowing full well that a prerequisite is to pretty much sell their souls to the devil? any lawyers please feel free to chime in, I'm not hating , I just honestly don't understand how you're able to defend these monsters day in and day out, apart from the $$

and you're clearly not very good at reading :) I think me asking why someone would choose that profession is a pretty obvious indicator I don't know much about the profession and that I'm trying to learn more about it. but thank you for obnoxiously stating the obvious instead of actually answering my question in any kind of useful way :)

Defense lawyers don't just work for their clients, they work for all of us. Without defense lawyers, then the government gets to accuse everyone of whatever they want, and throw anybody they don't like in prison. By defending even a guilty person, you are essentially policing the state, ensuring that they're doing THEIR job properly.
