      Dead canary, when the coach explodes, the sex dolls inflating out of nowhere, Batman & Robin, Tony Angelino, Friday the 14th, Del hang gliding, Rodney hiding from the police, Denzil seeing Del on the high seas, Rodney and Del hitting on the two transvestites..That's off the top of my head without going to the well of infinite returns that are Grandad and Trigger. If you don't like the show then fair enough, not everything in the world has to be liked by everyone else but I would say that the overwhelming majority of people that have watched the show would rightly call it a comedy classic. I defy anyone to watch episodes like Jolly Boys Outing, Tea for Three or Danger UXD without laughing. But, each to their own.

    • @galenalexanderdeeds3310
      @galenalexanderdeeds3310 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was my understanding that Red Dwarf only recently became "big" (if anyone can really call it that) and primarily because it in fact DID "jump the pond" Honestly Star Trek was more famous (pre-JJ Abrams) and it still pigeon-holed as a "Nerd" program.
      I myself heard great things about Red Dwarf. It seems to be on most of my friends' top 3 lists. So I sat down to watch five episodes. ...I was done after the first two minutes, but I sat through and grit my teeth through the other four episodes. Frankly, it reminded me of that Big Bang Theory rip-off that was aired in Europe. Not saying it itself is a rip-off of anything, mind you. I'm saying that I felt it wasn't funny, had a horrible laugh track, and the characters were simply ridiculous. I found Jar Jar Binks far more amusing and I think he's one of the worst characters ever conceived.
      I may not see the appeal of the show, but I admit that it must have something as so many people seem to fap over it like it's as good as Breaking Bad or (more appropriately) Doctor Who. I may personally think it's trash, but I recommend people see it and make up their own minds.

      Two different pilots - Terry Farrell and Jane Leeves. The US Lister was terrible. That's the problem when they "Americanize" stuff. Most lose their magic. Notable exception - The Office. I think we've shown that Americans will gladly watch UK shows are they are originally.

      Koko Pants The Young Ones had been shown stateside at some point. A web series by an American who watches a lot of British shows referred to Rik Myal as the guy from Young Ones reviewing a film he appeared in.
      I checked and actually they unsuccessfully tried to remake Only Fools and Horses a few years ago but from what I read it was never showed it in the states not even on BBC America. And BBC made or not they show a lot of major British shows in the states.
      Jeremy Kyle did have a short lived US version of his show, makes sense seeing it's practically our Jerry Springer, whether they still or ever got the UK version I'm not sure.

    • @lodragan
      @lodragan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      __The Young Ones__ - a British sitcom, broadcast in the United Kingdom from
      1982 to 1984 in two six-part series. Shown on BBC2, it featured
      anarchic, offbeat humour which helped bring alternative comedy to
      television in the 1980s and made household names of its writers and
      performers. In 1985, it was shown on MTV, one of the first non-music
      television shows on the fledgling channel. In a 2004 poll, it ranked at
      number 31 in the BBC's list of Britain's Best Sitcoms.
      When I was living in England from 1982 through 1984 (coincidentally the same time span of this show), it was one of the shows I would watch religiously.

      Father Ted used to be shown on my PBS station. Dallas' PBS station shows more British TV shows than the BBC they say. Dad's Army and Time Team have also been shown on Dallas' PBS station. There was also an American version of "The Great British Bakeoff" with the same British chef/baker as a judge, the guy with the beard. That is, if anyone reading this cares to know. Sometimes I am starting to wonder how well Anglophenia tries to research before these videos.

    Gameshows ~ the cube, countdown, weakest link, who wants to be a millionaire, deal or no deal? family fortunes (i really like this one, especially the latest ones), catch phrase, have i got news for you (haven't watched yet), golden balls, the chase, mastermind, pointless
    Reality: ~ Children in need, the apprentice,
    soap opras: Corination street, eastenders, emmerdale, casualty, hollyoaks, brookside, crossroads, family affairs, night and day
    a show you would watch on a boring sturday ~ 60 minute makeover, gogglebox, antiques road show
    BBC: Tracy beaker, The sarah jane adventures (SPOILER ALERT: The doctor does actually come in an episode), don't loose your head, ooglies
    enertainment: i'm a celebrity get me out of here, Britain's got talent, x factor, Britans got talent, master chef, the great british bake off, strictly comes dancing, dancing on ice. bigb brother, gordie shore, made in chelsea, comic relief.

      MOTD can't exactly go over to America if they can't relate to the football teams. it'd be as pointless as a Brit watching the Super Bowl. I say unless it's the World Cup, football is supposed to stay in it's own countries.

    If Tony Robinson presented Time Team as Baldrick, then it would look something like this: Phil Harding is in the trench and says something bucolic and unintelligible in a Wiltshire accent about not being able to find a wall, then Tony says, "I 'ave a cunnin' plan., m'lord."

    Sidenote - Canada (that country just to the north of America - that really big one?) has a network called CBC which is its equivalent to BBC (take out British and swap in Canadian.. although the logos are different) brought most of these to Canada.. so we have all the fanatics of Coronation Street (and Eastenders)...
    Fun fact - Dr. Who - the quintessential British TV show - was actually created by a Canadian - Sidney Newman, who was working at the BBC at the time. He also invented the concept of regenerations. Even today, the CBC has a hand in the production of Dr. Who and helped fund the first few years of the new (2005) Dr. Who restart.

      Many in the US border states watch CBC regularly. I first saw Jon Pertwee as the 3rd Doctor on a Canadian UHF station. Later caught Tom Baker on another Canadian station.

    • @danhorne9448
      @danhorne9448 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      He didn't create it all, he was one of 3 co producers, the others were English.

    • @TheoWerewolf
      @TheoWerewolf 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dan Horne Of course, but he's the one who is credited with the bulk of the invention. The BBC did a special recently specifically about the first Doctor as part of the 50th anniversary and it's clear that he was the driving force behind the show.
      That he was the person who first came up with the idea is pretty well documented, but of course, no TV show (or any large endeavour) is never just one person's effort. The ideas would be refined and fleshed out by the writers and of course without William Hartnell it wouldn't have worked.
      I just find it amusing that a Canuck is responsible for one of the most iconicly British TV characters ever (well, that and the show is now mostly filmed in Wales... :) )

      Except it was aired before the 7th August 2014 like at least another 3 shows on this list, but because Siobhan has no idea what we watch in the UK, didn't follow her own rules, and only picked shows that she likes, the list was a complete mess.
