The beautiful bells of Cremona (Italy) ring out at sunset on a festive day

- The provisional bell tower of the church of Saint Ambrose in Cremona, Italy, houses a beautiful concert of five bells, cast by Pruneri in 1896, that were once mounted on the bell tower of the demolished 18th-century church. The weight of the five bells is 1750 kg and they are tuned in the diatonic scale of F major. In this video we can hear the sound of the beautiful bells, filmed from the roof of the church on which we climbed to film. From the roof there is a wonderful view of the city, made magical by the spring sunset.
The main bell was the protagonist of a singular episode during the war. The parish priest personally endeavoured to recover the bell, which had been requisitioned in 1943, by going directly to the Barigozzi foundry in Milan and obtaining, thanks also to some acquaintances, the return of the bell, which thus returned to its place along with the other four.
The original Church of Saint Ambrose was demolished and rebuilt several times over the centuries. At the beginning of the 20th century, the 18th-century parish church was in very poor condition and the faithful spontaneously started a fund-raising campaign for the building of a new place of worship. The laying of the foundation stone took place on 12 June 1935 in the presence of Father Agostino Gemelli and all the main civil and religious authorities of the city. The church was inaugurated on 12 June 1938 in the presence of Cardinal Archbishop Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster of Milan, who was welcomed by the ringing of all the city bells. In early June 1959, work began on the completion of the Chapel of St Anthony of Padua, which was inaugurated on 12 June 1961, the day on which the parish church was solemnly consecrated by the bishop.
