This lecture is amazing sir , thank a lot . but I have a question . How about multi cross sectional shafts ? and also what is the second critical speed ? as you know in multistage pumps somtimes operating speed of the shaft is over critical speed , but how is it possible without failure of the shaft ?

A much more thorough method of evaluating critical shaft speeds has been developed, and it is even discussed (though not at great length/depth) in Shigley. With enough analysis, including evaluating damping effects, more than 2 bearings, etc., I assume there are many designs where speeds can safely be above the first critical speed. The purpose of my lecture on shaft critical speeds ( th-cam.com/video/_wnyYHyRvU8/w-d-xo.html ) was more to introduce my students to another mode of possible failure, and to give them the simplest, most conservative way to avoid it. I'll keep in mind the idea of doing a more advanced lecture on shaft resonance. I've already had a number of people request a course in vibrations, so we'll see! Thanks for your support! I hope you're well!

@@TheBomPE That will be amazing , sir , Hearing vibration lectures with your great explanation will be great and I admit I can not wait to wach those lectures.
