Are there Sherpas for hire in Norway? Your description of the pack reminds of a motorcycle camping trip I did with a friend to Newfoundland. I'm not sure what was going on with his tent, pack and sleeping bag, but I refer to it as the night of a thousand zippers! At least it kept the moose away. 😄
Yes and they are from Nepal. They mostly build stone access paths on public projects. It seems that many manufacturers have forgotten the art of simplicity, I guess it doesn't market well. My grievance with my otherwise excellent Kuiu, is that the buckles and straps block access to the backpack.
Thanks Thomas i always learn something from watching you. I don't understand why you have gone away from the 6.5x55 blazer. And have you ever been to Australia say for a camel hunt on the stations or deer hunt in Victoria /NSW?
It's basically a folly, I always wanted to try a kipplauf rifle. Now that I hunt less and this rifle does what it does, I find it hard to motivate myself to carry the heavier R8. Age is catching up and I'm starting to feel the extra weight in the mountains. Sorry no, hasn't visited Australia at all and know very little about the hunting there.
Man....you need a Sherpa to carry all that stuff ! 😛 Great shooting as usual. I'm trying to get away from bipods and use "your" bag to support the rifle on one side (back or forth, depending on the spot) and a rock or a stump on the other. The slim forend is too keen in touching the barrel 🙂
I had to file away a little wood on mine, to say I was nervous is an understatement. Not much wood there to begin with. I've contemplated gluing in a strip of carbon fibre, but it seems to be a lot of work for uncertain outcome.
I have used 6 XC a fair bit, superb precision, low recoil and hard knockdown on deer. You really need to be a reloader, 6mm components can sometimes be in short supply and Norma N203B was THE go-to powder for me. Only reason I don't use it any more is cost + legal requirement for 100gr copper bullets, which no 6mm will do. It just isn't as allround/versatile as a 6,5mm.
There are some countries limiting game of deer and chamois size to cartridges above 240 so in fact sometimes a 6.5 may be a minimum. As well some countries demand minimum bullet weights. So check local hunting laws before.
Yes I own the Swarovski EL Range. Those and Leica Geovid R are the two models I would recommend if you are looking for a laser rangefinder binocular. The Leica probably offers more worth for the money, the Swarovski has too many features for my taste.
Thanks! The chestpack is a lightweight molle chestrig with central zipper, made by Tasmanian Tiger (I believe it is discontinued, google molle chestrig front zipper). The pouches are the largest backpack pouches from Kifaru, very useful to carry the cameras. You want the front zipper so you can easily get the gear out of the way (flop to the sides) when shooting prone.
My memory might be playing me a trick or confusing your channel with another one. But i recall seeing a video of your R8 showing the trigger unit with adjustable trigger pull weight, if i remember correclty there was 3 settings for the trigger pull.
Thomas your films are getting better and better. Love the peanuts trick by the way. K95 is a beauty of a rifle but that lump of clay on the grip is dam ugly😆
Awesome landscape. Thomas, you who have used a lot of cartridges. What do you think that is the most balanced rifle cartridge for deer hunting at long ranges (600-900 m)?
Well, lets rearward engineer that one. For those distances you need a high BC bullet that reliably creates a good wound cavity. I am a great fan of Hornady Amax/ ELD M for that purpose. Once you got that, choose your caliber (6.5mm/7mm/30 or 338) and then put whatever case is needed to push that bullet approximately V0 850-900 msec. I found the 300 Norma a bit much, the 6,5x284 and PRC gets the job done but in a rifle dedicated for that purpose the incoming 7 PRC would get my vote because of what I predict will be excellent component availability. Allthough, being Norwegian in Norway with the supply situation being what it is, I would always choose 6.5mm over 7mm.
@@THLR The 7mm has a very high BC, but for some reason rifle makers tend to do a slow twist to stabilize 180g and heavier bullets, it's a shame, because a 7mm Rem Mag with a twist of 8, 5" is a great option for long range shooting. Hopefully, with the 7mm PRC we start to see faster twist rate in the 7mm
