Awesome job on the review. Definitely seems like a solid rifle option for nearly any style of hunting. Also being in the pacific northwest I agree that a durable and weather proof finish is a must!
Still a great pump gun even though it is mostly plastic, th-cam.com/users/postUgkxh4su9YgU1tWmjikirWcKJbjsFLEU62Bc but with care it will last a long time. It would be neat if Crosman would make a commemorative version of this with real wood stock, but of course it would weigh more and cost more, but hey, it would be cool. The included scope is more of a toy, but it does work for backyard plinking. I prefer to use pellets for greater accuracy, but BBs are just as good for plinking. This is not a Red Ryder folks; fully pumped it is 3 times the power of a Red Ryder and can be dangerous if not handled properly. Be safe out there.

I share the same feelings toward the Hell's Canyon. I've heard it shoots good but I just can't get over the vibes it gives me haha! Aesthetics are important to me. If I own something that I find beautiful or intriguing I know I will use it more.

What I am liking these days is such a wide variety of rifles and the technology that makes them light, affordable, and accurate. Even though I have not been on a "back country hunt" ( which I would like to do, some day,) I hunt on public land. But even if I could lease some land, the affordable leases are similar to public land hunts. Very overgrown and not manicured. It is not a case of where you ride in a side by side to a permanent stand and aim at a self-feeder 70 yards away. And there is nothing wrong with that, either. It takes work and dedication and the herd lives a good life. Still, however, I hunt public land. That means I need to pack in, and pack out. And so, I wear a back pack with just the bare necessities. Wild Pak kit by Outdoor Edge. Folding camp stool to squat and still hunt. Bog Pod tripod. A few rolls of bathroom tissue. It will happen, trust me. A 22 ounce squeeze bottle of water to stay hydrated. Sometimes, my machete. Binocs (Vortex Diamondback 12x 50 mm.)
Some nylon rope and paracord. Folding gambrel and pulley (from Harbor Freight but you can also get it from Amazon.) The back pack is the Alps Commander Z with the frame and the fold down meat shelf. Where I hunt, it is easier to quarter and even de-bone than to drag out whole, by myself. That being said, the WMA I hunt on has a rule for opening weekend and Thanksgiving weekend. You can field dress the deer where you drop him but you need to bring the carcass whole to the deer check station for herd health and CWD check. So, on those times, I am also packing in my Deersleigh'R toboggan.
So, I also need a light rifle. In most cases, you make a series of compromises. For example, the lights rifles are also not very accurate past the second shot. But, all things being considered, you will probably not make more than two shots. Usually, the buck or bull is out of usable range by then. Except for the video of Ron Spomer using his Mossberg Patriot 7 mm Rem Mag and it took three shots to bring down a bull elk.
So, bravo for finding a good shooting rifle that feels comfortable and you can carry it for miles. as will often be the case on back country or public land hunts.

I'm a .308 guy. I've taken lots of game from Wyoming to Alaska (I live in Alaska) with 7mm Rem Mag and .300 Win Mag but the .308 is is like the 30-06 to me. Lots of history and it doesn't beat your shoulder up, and can take down any large game in North America and ammo is cheaper. So it's a win as I see it. I've been looking at getting a Bergara chambered in .308.
Haven't decided on the model yet but the mountain 2.0 is sweet!

@@EmoryByLand sadly I don't have any experience with the 270. I know folks here in Alaska who hunt moose and caribou with the .270 and feel confident hunting with that chamber. From what I've been told and read the
.270 is a great flat shooting round and with the right bullet selection can be very versatile and a great all around cartridge.
I used to think I needed a magnum round to hunt deer, moose, caribou etc.. As you know, its all about shot placement. I've ruined a fair amount of meat on moose using a .300 win mag , I've heard people call it the .300 meat wrecker. So I'm moving away from magnum calibers, not to mention todays prices for .300 win mag are around $95 a box where I live. Can't afford to shoot it. The .308 like the .270 is easy to find in stores (usually) doesn't kick like a mule which makes it more enjoyable to shoot!
You sound like the most reasonable person on the internet and make a great point about destroying meat. Bigger isn't always better. I've been a tad hesitant to bring my 270 out for elk, but I think to your point, it's all about shot placement. I feel like as long as the shot is well placed, we're just splitting hairs at that point.
@@EmoryByLandI can echo a lot of what’s already been said…what I would add is, pick a bullet that has good construction. Personally I like shoot with copper, more specifically Barnes TTSX and LRX. If you have an absolute trophy standing in front of you and you need to take out both shoulders, that bullet is up to the task. At the same time they do expand rapidly so if you have to take a neck shot it’s not going to just pencil through either. They’re really hard to beat, unless they don’t shoot well in your particular rifle. I’d highly recommend giving them a try.

I have been leading challenging backcountry expeditions in Alaska, Montana/wyoming and California for the past 10 years and I am happy I found your channel: your content is quite inspiring and you have good taste.
I have a question regarding the rifle: Being a non-ported 22inch barrel, do you find the recoil abusive ? Also, I was wondering what scope and rings you were sporting on this lightweight rifle.
My experience "backpacking" in the wilderness is with a Marlin 45/70 Guide Gun 18.5 inch barrel with iron peep sights. My rifle is manufactured is 2002 with a beautiful walnut stock and has held up pretty well the intense Alaskan elements, but it might be time to consider something more modern :)

I don’t personally think it kicks very hard, but like most calibers of this size, you do feel it after a bit.

nice rifle but i also like your "old" 30-06 blue rifles with wood stocks don't wear out or melt they just get more character with use

Awesome! Glad to hear it was helpful. Still no complaints about the rifle. The ONLY thing I'm going to do is replace the scope mount (the rail kind) because it covers the bolt and it's irritating to load wit such little room to work with. That's about it though, still loving it!
I love my 2 b14s. Apparently in the last here a bergara bashing crowd popped up so you see many people bashing bergara on forums. If you read what actual owners write, it's almost always a good feedback. People bashing bergara typically never owned one or seem to be fanboys or other brands and maybe they see bergaras as a threat. So stupid. Yeah, Bergara put out some lemons, as every manufacturer does, but with bergara this became a reason to say that the brand is bad, the overall quality is bad, etc. What do you think?

What I’m dying to know is what future the 30-06 has. I’m in the exact same situation and I’ll be honest. I’m having trouble letting go. The ol Rem 700 dirty aught six seriously gets work done.

the 30-06 is not the greatest in every specific situation. It is, however, probably the most versatile cartridge. Not going anywhere even with all the new cartridge niche's

I'd say you picked the better of the mountain rifles. Better trigger, action, barrel, stock than the others and better priced than the weatherby back country. I greatly enjoy my half dozen Bergara rifles. My favorite is my Approach. The mountain 2.0 just needs threaded and a monte carlo style cheek rise

Yeah but this times people love to bash bergaras on forums. They say they are bad quality. I have never heard this said by someone who actually own one. Yeah, there are some lemons around, as with every other brand. If you get a lemon you are not gonna like the gun. But this doesn't mean it isn't good quality. My 2 b14s are amazing
The tough part with these mountain models is the cost. You could take a Tikka T3x stainless, have it threaded, cerakote it and replace the stock and probably have less in it than this costs. You wouldn’t be getting the fluted bolt or the quick disassembly bolt features, but I’ve never field stripped my bolt so that doesn’t really bother me. To be fair I’m home everyday when I hunt…a lot of days the weather might be miserable, but I’m always home that night to let my equipment dry out and be cleaned/lubricated. The newer XBolts with the OVIX camo are a little less flashy…plus the 18” barrel suppressor ready model is a tough to beat rifle for around $1100.
Does this use the AG Carbon All Terrain ("CAT") stock? I think the first generation of the Bergara Mountain used the same stock as Barrett Fieldcraft (CAT).

My problem with Bergara rifles is weight they always seem heavy. I’ll have to check this one out. Currently have the hells canyon, kimber mnt ascent, tikka roughtec, and a few others.
What is the weight on this model?
Agreed, but their premier line is different and specifically THIS model is by far the lightest one the have last time I checked. I believe it hovers around 6.1- 6.3 lbs.

A couple of years ago I bought the Premier Mountain Stalker in 6.5 creedmor and it hits regularly at 1200. It’s my favorite rifle in my safe. It looks like this Mountain 2.0 takes the place of the version I bought a couple of years ago……… I may want to get this new one as well.

"Only .270." Hilarious. Look up Gunblue or Ron Spomer's ballistics. 270 is better than the 6.5 creed until you get out past reasonable hunting ranges.

I think they are to light. I shoot larger calibers and prefer the rifles in the 7 to 8 pound range. I like their highlander. Plus I can't stand those skinny barrels. It's far easier to shoot rifles accurately with a little heft to them. I wouldn't ever sacrifice accuracy for comfort.
Stick a suppressor on it and you've got your 7+ lb rifle, you can also put a heavier scope on it for more weight.

Bergara mountain rifle is a $2000 rifle or more browning hells canyon is a 1200 dollar rifle? Compare it to browning 2000 or more mountain rifle would be more fair comparison.

Nice rifle. Close, but not perfect? Perhaps for you, though. I'm still looking for my perfect rifle. Which is tougher than one thinks, keeping in mind all the things you said. Caliber choice is just as difficult to make. Is your rifle barrel stainless? It is very important to me, besides the coating, because the barrel inside is also prone to rust. One rifle I recently looked at did it for me, like yours did for you. A Fierce arms Rival Twist in 6.5 PRC. OMG, I've never been attracted to a rifle like that one! That, comparing it side by side to a Christensen and a Kimber. That Fierce made me almost hate all my other rifles! The only reason I do not own it yet is, I question the cartridge. I think I could make it work for deer, bear, and elk here in Washington State. I usually gravitate towards bigger guns, like 300 Weatherby, 300 RUM, and 28 Nosler. So I'm now looking at the new Fierce Rogue in 300 PRC. The CT Titainium version is just under 6 lbs. It has a carbon barrel, where the Rival is coated stainless. I believe the Rival weighs about 6-8 oz more, but I just like the Rival stock design better. I believe the 6.5 PRC is similar in performance to your 270. With such lighter cartridge guns, shot placement becomes even more important. While I think I should shoot a more powerful cartridge, as an advantage in times where hunting is more limited and expensive, that 6.5 keeps calling me! Congrats on your pick. Good hunting!

I'd love to see a video shooting it. I have a B14 HMR in 308 that's half MOA from the lead sled. I've been looking for a lighter rifle to take hunting in the back country. This might be a great option. I'd also like to see a video of what you take for a 3-6 day backpacking hunting trip and what it weighs.
I once had a desire to do such a video, but it's really not my thing. I gun is a gun at the end of the day and they all shoot as good as the shooter. I think this gun is a great fit for backpack hunters.
