  • The Luminaries is a YA urban fantasy novel that doesn't do anything to reinvent the genre or push boundaries, but it does tell a compelling and well-crafted story set in a fun and engaging world.

This is the kind of book I would have been excited to read as a teen and during my early and mid twenties. I'll still read it sometime when I need something fun and lighthearted (or at least not so depressing). Also I love how your clothes is matching the book, just like when you reviewed The Last House on Needless Street. And you're looking all pretty as usual. :)

I pretty much agree with everything said here. I enjoyed reading the story and am currently reading the sequel to it, because it's such an "easy" read on the side. I could have done with more explaination of the rulework of the universe and less predictability overall, but I was still entertained :) (also your make up is flawless!)

Interesting book. Thanks for sharing. There are a lot of books out there that most people haven't heard about that should get a lot more exposure. I recently read When Dying Is Not a Problem and I really enjoyed it.

It's a "chilling adventures of Sabrina" nextflix series turned into a YA book.

I think the main reason I don’t gravitate towards fantasy is because I don’t feel like I have the bandwidth for world building. Maybe I would like this 😂 it’s a gorgeous cover.

That’s actually just the cover of the review copy. Not sure why they did it like that :)

Reason I don't read YA because it's formulaic, you're right. I love your smoky eyes🖤

I've been really wanting to read another book by the name of Luminaries, but I've never heard of this one! The premise sounds pretty cool, but not necessarily my cup of tea. I was interested till you said coming of age lol

I just finished listening to third volume of Sandman, so the part about people hunting nightmares caught my attention, but I actively avoid YA by running in different direction. Specially if there is any romance involved. As for teenage angst I rescently finished "Night of the manequins" by Stephen Graham Jones thanks to Godess of gore channel, that was a pleasant surprise.

Have you read any Anna Marie McLemore? I feel like if you're hungry for YA that's imaginative and a bit experimental, you might enjoy their work! It draws a lot from magical realism, is full of beautiful eerie imagery, and is often very queer. The Mirror Season and Lakelore are two I'd personally recommend, if any of that sounds enticing!
