    My mother sang in the choir in her university days while studying vocal performance. She said the boy playing the drum was told put his whole body weight into smacking that drum. She could feel her teeth shaking.

    My heart is heavy with sorrow for the passing of one of the greatest contemporary conductors worldwide: Claudio Abbado (1933-2014). Rest in peace, Maestro. Your work lives on.

    I love how it just starts out with the conductor looking like this calm old man and then he immediately violently starts conducting as if he's beating the shit out of some guy. It's fucking awesome.

      well posted axissia, mozart's requiem is badly written, mainly focused on counterpoint harmonies having no soul spirit and being easy listening due to the taste of the time he lived in ( which is mozart's music is all about , a massive production of nice jingles and the reason why critics until XX cent didn't rank him so high). Verdi's requiem is the most powerful, solemn, spiritual and beautiful ever written and no comparison with anyone else's work can be made.

His time here is over, but he rests in peace having brought such joy to generation after generation of concert goers (and people listening to his recordings on CD and TH-cam ;D). Adieu, old master! It would be the most appropriate background music for video of the Nazi invasion of Poland, a profoundly Catholic country about to endure the worst horrors that any country endured before Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge.
      It is telling that the Nazis really hated this piece of music even if it wasn't a "Jewish" work.

    • @timhart8737
      @timhart8737 7 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      'to endure the worst horrors that any country endured before Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge'
      A very bold claim.
      To imply the Nazi's committed the worst atrocities in all history combined before Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge, is ignorance at best and an acceptance of propaganda at worst.
      Reminder that the Mongols alone killed 40,000,000 as a result of their conquests.
      Stalin killed upwards of 23,000,000.
      Genocide was a frequent occurrence in the world, albeit not with much efficiency which made the Holocaust so abrupt and horrific. Regardless, before the 19th - 20th Century, Genocide was virtually commonplace amongst all peoples of the world; Africans, Europeans, Asians & Americans.
      It was the indirect result of tribalism.
      The Nazis were not unique in this matter. They were the only ones punished for it.

    "At the dawn of the millennium, the nation collapsed. At 15 percent unemployment, 10 million were out of work. 800,000 students boycotted school. The adults lost confidence and, fearing the youth, eventually passed the Millennium Educational Reform Act, aka the Battle Royale Act."

    Eserin giriş bölümü kıyametin karmaşa ve dehşetini çağrıştırırken, son kısımda kıyametin tamamlanıp ruhların mahşerde birer birer meydana düşüp toplanmasını çağrıştırıyor bana. İçinde kendine ait ruhu olan birşeyler anlatan bir beden gibi. Işıklar içinde uyu Abbado.

    Just think, this many people had to fit their schedule in for this one day to all come together to play, sing, or listen to this piece. The total collaborative effort is something to appreciate as well.
    Yes I know the orchestra and chorus are just doing their job, but everyone still had to be free from other obligations on that day as well.
