It blows my mind how Kel can see the potential in fonts and squish, stretch or slant them so it fits their vision.

@@SeanMacadelic she did pretty good for the marketing material but the logos themselves are fumbling a bit with the fundamentals. Kind of like music theory; don’t fuck that up.
Hey Kel! The reason United adopted the globe logo circa 2010 was that they had just merged with/purchased Continental Airlines and the globe was the Continental logo. A cool idea would for another airline logo addendum to this video would be updating classic defunct airlines like PanAm and TWA to what you think their branding would look like in 2021.

And that continental logo was also a replacement of the Saul Bass logo for Continental (which was a plain circle with a couple of cut out lines curving away from the middle as the move horizontally)

Spirit needs to adopt Kel's version RIGHT NOW cause their reimagining of the logo is gorgeous.
I'm usually a script hater (ruined by old people's side hustles on Etsy making live laugh love posters), but that United logo is literally perfect.
The brand identity Kel created afterwards just cements that for me. I would travel to America just to use that airline if that was the branding.

I loved all the redesigns you've done but I gotta say this one really knocked it out of the park every single one of these designs were amazing
CMD+D re-does the last transformation you applied, so it applied more shear because the last thing you used was shear :) It can be helpful if you want to make an array of objects: you can alt drag something to make a duplicate and then ctrl-d to make more equally spaced duplicates.
That's the only thing I use Ctrl+D for X) I'm sure it has other cool practical uses
My moms works at southwest and truly loves her job so much and she works in the call center. They give her amazing benefits, a perfect retirement plan, and free flights anywhere she wants. Southwest is 👌🏻👌🏻

Air New Zealand is pretty clean, although there's a reason most airlines don't use black lol.

The United logo changed because they merged with Continental btw, they wanted to merge both cultures although it took them up until two years ago to finally merge all together lol
The history graphic didn't show it, but they had an all blue version of the Saul Bass "tulip" for a couple years, it was... interesting.
Ahhh I was thinking… wasn’t the globe the Continental logo?! That makes sense.
yep. united’s bargaining chip to complete the merger was to use continental’s branding-so continental would not have to repaint as many of their airplane liveries.
I love how Kel makes these videos entertaining for the general public but also adds little teaching points for people who are interested in graphic design, they’re so down to earth about the really cool work they create!!
Your United monogram is really interesting, though the typography might end up looking a bit too retro.
Delta’s icon might have some readability and application issues due to the very small negative space inside the triangle.
I really appreciate how the branding for Spirit turned out, even though I’m not really sold on the icon itself, as the design seems to work well among all the assets.
All in all, love your videos. A great exercise of creativity and decision making!
I really liked all the logos, but the decision of choosing orange (a color unconciosly linked to danger and alarm) as the main color for an airline seemed odd... even tho it´s my favourite one lol
@@Markelarani I think orange is okay, but red ,would be problematic. easyJet is also in orange and it's not problematic. Orange is good for low cost brands.
Lacking heavily in fundamentals which is the most important thing before even trying to design anything. Nothing has changed for like 2 years since I found this channel. That’s enough time to master them. Sometimes artists get very comfortable with what they were taught in design school/university. Which is very....okay
I know a lot about airlines, I'm studying and am on track to becoming an airline pilot, and the reason that United has that awful globe logo is because they bought Continental airlines in 2010 which had that exact logo lol. I love your videos keep up the great work! I also agree with you about Southwest, they are very approachable and are one of my favorites to fly along with Delta

I love how that United logo reverses and crops in the final identity spread! A great reminder (which I need!) that the logo itself in a vacuum isn't the whole story. It starts to live and breathe in application.

i was on the fence when you were working on the united logo but you really elevated it!! so classy, especially the mockups you had for the seat logos and the body paint job
I'm so impressed by your video! It's excellent. I loved the background and information on past graphics. I loved how you created the final vision board with the plane design, staff card, ticket, airplane wing and aisle and seat colours. Seriously nice.

The Delta logo from the 30s is the Greek god, Aeolus, keeper of the wind.

I really love Alaska Airlines Eskimo illustration on their tails! Visiting America, the land of the brands, that is one design that really stood out for me! So unique.
Someone may have already mentioned this but in 2010 the parent company of United bought Continental Airlines which sparked the logo shift to incorporate the globe from Continental :)

CMD+D is one of the most useful Illustrator commands, IMO. It reapplies the last transform you did, especially useful for copying+rotate or copying with even spacing.

The United Airlines logo looks so smooth👌 I don’t usually see a lot of font with joined letters. Looks great. Personally I don’t like how the bridging shape between the top of the D and the T is squeezed on the top right. But, again, still looks good

Is anything I like about your style though it's that it's realistic and you're performing within a time limit which is what designers actually do. You also stick to some bit of the original branding and use the brand is kind of a style guide to make your own creation which is again, what designers actually do. A lot of people on TH-cam just try to stunt within like 15 seconds and that's not realistic to most people.
