- This is the story of what happened to Terminator Dark Fate. Could this have killed the Terminator movie franchise for good?

SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: What Happened To This Horror Movie?

I was watching this on a plane and people still walked out.
well yeah i mean you had only boxer's on
Damn
@cryeatorsfreedom6734 of killing a joke was a comment. Sheesh
awesome comment.
I saw it in an empty theatre and even some of the seats got up and left.
This makes me wish Terminator: Salvation got a sequel instead (its ending directly leading into Terminator 1).
There's a reason,, the best Terminator game (besides the Bethesda one from the 80s/90s) is the one set in the "human are vermin coming out at night" Future.
It wouldn't have. Terminator: Salvation takes place in the future of Terminator 3 where Judgement Day is no longer 1997. So it wouldn't be the same Terminator 1. Besides, McG's idea for the sequel was Skynet discovering a way to displace their entire army through time and John manages to travel ahead to the past to warn everyone but of course they think he's crazy until Skynet invades the past. He has to figure out how to fight back using old tech. The idea of like WW2 tanks fighting H/Ks is kind of cool but it sounds really wild for a Terminator movie.
I know, for all the crap people give Terminator: Salvation, it deserves points for doing something original, rather the same old, time-travel-to-stop-the robot-from-killing-the-future-leader schtick.
Yeah, not the same timeline. My favorite movie, tho. The advancement of Skynet was obviously better, and Kyle wasn't the same age. It's been a while, I barely remember. The differences are minor.
Salvation is the best after the first two
Man if they didn't kill John Connor , and then had the original actor as a deadbeat and gave him a redemption arc and a need to reconnect with the mom and his destiny, the movie would have been so much better.
Unfortunately because of Furlong's legal and drug use it would of been hard to get funding and insurance for the film. He did get paid for them using his likeness in the beginning.
@@henrywallacesghost5883nick Stahl could have done it
@@AlexGreat321That’s like saying Curly Joe can just be the Third Stooge.
@@henrywallacesghost5883 furlong was long time sober by the time this movie was being written and filmed..don’t spread misinformation.
It was right in front of them but the girl power movement post 2016 ruined it
Here's why it failed:
1. They killed John Conner
2. Tim Miller shit on the fan base before release.
That was the best part of the movie
@@Darstag and the peanut is the best part in a turd
And they took a woke approach 😂😂😂
he subverted expectations, you know the hollywood thing to do.
everything woke turns into shit
I hated everything about this entry in the franchise, except for the fact that it made Salvation look like T2 by comparison.
Give me a Kyle Reese story and look at the war against the machines, ending with Kyle being sent back in time to protect Sarah Connor
There's The Terminator for Sega CD (Genesis version sucks). And while it centers around a different hero (Kyle does appear in a DLC), there's also Terminator: Resistance.
It's so obvious, and it's been right there under their noses since the beginning. Why do they keep looking in all the wrong directions?
@@colin_in_sickthank you. It's been past time they made a movie about the actual war.
Nah cuz then they’ll feel the need to remake 1 & 2
Exactly. It has to be as dark and gritty as his nightmares from T1.
Killing John at the start of the movie keeps you asking "why should i care about any of this?" the entire time. And thats none of the actors' faults. Just a bad story idea.
I feel bad for the people that knew nothing about the movie and went in expecting to see Connor, only for him to get iced in the opening
It's a time travel story - so a sequel could have both John Conner and Dani Ramos flickering in and out of reality (assuming they could line up the performers, and come up with a decent plot to set them in and ... so on ...).
@@miyamiller2396 that could have been a great way to pass the torch and set up the franchise for the next decade
@@miyamiller2396 Easy, the war against Skynet keeps going in the future, John is a mortal man growing old. He needs a replacement. Skynet switches focus as it will not be John who will be the one destroying in the end in the future. John started the rebellion but didn't end it. Here you have your new character target, the mother of a new kid... which can be a woman, the kid could have been born a week before judgment day to a family of military working in Bunker. Here you have a new young kid, you have a story for the war timeline and one for the "Terminator Chase" timeline. To make it more interesting, make the mother in the past not know anything about the future war, exposition happening to us through the kid in the war story. This provides you with two timeline stories that you can use and focus on according to what you want to show. Tell me if that first draft synopsis I wrote on the spot isn't something you would have enjoyed better than the complete destruction of the Terminator Lore that was Dark Fate.
This movie is the epitome of current Hollywood. Kill what the majority of people liked and insert your idea here. There's this weird trend of "I know better than the original" with a lot of franchises. Most of the time, that mentality just angers the already established fanbase and ends up failing.
Yup, makes no sense to piss people off and push them away, but they keep doing it.
@@hakimzane it's the fastest way to kill a franchise particularly sci Fi. Of all fandoms Sci Fi fans are fiercely loyal but notoriously fickle and picky when it comes to their movies. Sci Fi fans are really big on sticking to "canon" and are very emotionally attached to characters. It never makes sense the direction Hollywood chooses to go with some films. It's obvious that a lot of the studios put more weight on handpicked focus groups instead of actual fan input.
It's called DEI
Whenever a new Terminator sequel came out after T2:
"This is the worst Terminator movie."
"No. This is the worst Terminator movie YET..."
Dark Fate died when John Connor got killed of at the beginning of the movie.
Arnold, Linda and Edward were all on board, the movie could have easily featured Edward as the adult he currently is and delved into everything he had been thru since a kid.
With all three of the main characters on board the movie could have been totally different and awesome.
Can we send a Terminator back in time to redo Dark Fate ?
Yeah, Adult Jon Connor wondering is Judgement is actually going to come, if he can let go and move on, or if keeps needing to be paranoid about the Robot Apocalypse.
Then shit starts blowing up for 90 minutes.
Yeah they can just decanonize this movie like James Cameron did with the other movies. I don't get why companies can't just do that.
The only correct approach to another movie is one about the war, not salvation style, but more like the opening to T2, plasma rifles, T800s and such
Someone with true vision sees the correct path
They should have figured it out two movies ago after T Salvation
Agreed!
Yes! For God's Sake give me Maximum Killer Robots in the Future!
That's all people want out of the franchise. Killer Robots being Cool.
YEAHHH!! Anything in the past is just an eye roll at this point
Modern Hollywood happened to Dark Fate.
Terminator Salavtion was the real opportunity in this franchise, but was nuetered for PG13 rating. Everything since then has been a weak attempt to recapture T2 magic
Salvation could’ve worked if the franchise would just stop being obsessed with rehashing the plot to Terminator 2. It should’ve ended at 2 and then you can do a prequel with the future war. Even in Salvation, the future war was relegated to a side plot to focus on the time displaced hero who must save the chosen one (in this case, Kyle Reese). Stop using time travel as a crutch.
Pity it was the "Teehee crusing around during the day Wwwooohhh!" Fallout, and not "Humans are vermin living in the rubble, coming out at night" stobe lighting DEW fallout.
@@Linklex7I’m glad it didn’t ended at 2 I enjoyed T3,T4, T5 and also T6 too and I never stand the hate for those films at all but that’s just my personal opinions
Bale sucked. Everyone else carried him.
I always wanted to see the prequel that takes place in the future where humanity struggles to save itself. Salvation was so close.
I feel like the audience deserves a future war saga with the terminator franchise. We’ve been stuck in the saving John Conor from terminators getting sent to the past story line.
agreed, a terminator 3 needed to be in the future war. Stop the we have to save judgement day troupe.
That has been what I have wanted from the beginning. Salvation tried, but John Connor wasn't really the main character in that movie, and not yet the leader, what I wanted to see was how the whole thing went from the moment the war started, he starts the resistance and builds it up, and then leads humans to victory. And the last movie ends with a scene that is a straight lead to how that first movie starts.
If I was an exec, and they pitched Dark Fate to me, when they bring up Connor’s death, I’d say:
“Wait! John Connor? THE John Connor…dies? Just like that?”
“Um… yeah. So anyways, afterwards we get to-“
“Whoa whoa whoa! Hold up! You KILLED John Connor…in the opening? *uugghh*…🤦♂️…Okay. Before you continue, answer me this: Does he come back later in the movie, let alone hint that he may return in a follow-up movie?”
“No, but what happens is-“
“Next!?!”
But seriously, who in their vacuous mind would ever approve this dumb idea anyways? Virtually 99% (1% margin of error) of the time whenever someone pulls an Alien3 it always ends up in disaster before the first act is over. And yet, certain projects try doing it again and again and again and a-f’n-again because…???
in genisys they killed john conner but they had a use for him
@ And it was still a really stupid idea. Like Dark Fate they still sidelined a major character. Furthermore, the T-800 didn’t get terminated (not sorry) again in the end for the sake of the future (again). It tried to be b@!!sy while playing it safe by reviving Ah-Nold for another sequel instead dying, yet it still didn’t work AT ALL. I could go on, but I’m sure you get my point. If you ask me, none of the movies after T2 never ever happened within the main canon. I guess I’ll go with T-Zero’s logic where the whole series ended in T2 in one timeline, while everything else are different tangents, so I’ll stick with the first two which are, in my book, the ONLY two.
@@simpsoniac12the thing is if they were so set on killing off John Conner, they could do it in the future war within a well written storyline. Instead they did it BEFORE the war which rendered all of the struggle to protect him for nothing
@ EXACTLY! Cameron aside, these so-called “storytellers” have no sense of consistency and significance. Dark Fate didn’t feel or look like a Part 3, but another do-over with returning castmembers. “Couldn’t figure out a proper continuation that stands alongside the first two?” Here’s an idea: DONT-DO-IT!!!🤦♂️.
Best part of the movie was discovering a 90 year old Terminator has a side hustle as a florist
draper
@@Valen235 "You just can't go around hanging draperies!"
"I am a draper."
"You just can't. Swear you won't hang draperies."
Who ever wrote let’s Kill John Conner should never touch another screen play again. Really killed my childhood. I remember not not liking the 3rd film for some dumb reason and now I feel it’s the most faithful to the story
I like Terminator 3. I wish they'd gotten Edward to reprise John Connor, but Nick did an okay job. I know Edward was struggling with shit at the time and the studios were not interested in having him reprise HIS role. Stupid of them, really. His presence in the movie would have jumped it much higher than it was, in my opinion.
A Rogue One style terminator film in the future war would be sick, with the final scene being the original t800 and Kyle Reese going back in time as the final scene
Agreed! No more going back to the present the entire film.
Dark Fate positioned itself as a direct sequel to T1 and T2, but it just shat all over the legacy of those two films. It is basically a shameless copy of T2 and a very poorly executed one at that. The biggest problem of all is the decision to kill off John Connor and replace him with a petite Mexican woman who had no screen presence or believability as the future saviour of the human race. This film is a prime example of the "Go Woke, go broke" phrase. Once people got wind of the unceremonious killing off of John Connor this film's fate was sealed and it became a Box Office bomb as a result.
I think that if they had shown another older actress being the leader of the resistance it could have been somewhat salvageable, instead of that petite girl. Edward Furlong wasn't shown as the leader of the humans, it was another actor who never spoke a line but his presence commanded respect, something you can't say the same about that girl looking actress
Proof that endless sequels aren't wanted or needed.
There are only Two Terminator films in my opinion.
Salvaton?
@ no
T3 was ok. Yes it was just riffing on T2 but at least it was entertaining
@@chrisbee8009”Ok”

Linda Hamilton isn't just cringe here as Sarah...she is playing a character which is now a parody of a once cool, "badass" female lead.
82% audience score? Really? This shouldn't get more than 50.
Many CGI effects looks worse than the 1991 movie T2!
Embarrassing.
Lets pretend "Terminator Dark Fate" was just a bad dream.
"Dani" is what bummed out the film. The character was annoying and not believable. Having Linda and Arnold would normally have made a hit. But the writing was weak. Didn't care about any of the characters other than Linda's return. Such a shame.
Exactly what I thought. The funniest part of the film was when they showed the future Dani. She was supposed to look like the future tough gruff military leader, but instead she looked like the rapper Bow Wow circa 2010 had put some dirt on his face.. Totally unbelievable as humanity's future military leader. And she was irritating throughout the film.
So the terminator kills john, then in remorse for killing john, he saves them all from the rev 9. Did none of the writers watch terminator 1? Reese legit says the terminator will NEVER feel remorse.
At least Terminator Salvation tried to do something different. And the Sarah Connor Chronicles was the best thing since T2
Yeah, TSC was great. Shame it only lasted 2 seasons.
Just watched T2 last night, not one sequel comes anywhere close to it, by a long long way, the story line, the production quality, the colour grading, the sound quality and sound effects, the practical effects (Most important), the cast. Quality in every area.
That intro with John means that instead of making another Terminator 2, they made another Alien 3
Oof, you'd think Cameron would see the irony.
This comparison makes no sense to me. They defeated SkyNet in the second movie. They stopped Judgment Day by the hands of SkyNet. They changed John's fate. John is expendable.
Meanwhile, they could have done more with Newt, and they didn't. That's why Cameron felt betrayed. Plus, killing off Newt and Hicks wasn't his call. Those were his characters and they just killed them off without his feelings being considered. The circumstances are different.
Except Alien cube is a great movie with a cast that can act, every single actor is as stiff as a plank of wood in Dark Fate
@RedHazeCh I will take your word for it as I have seen the former but not the latter 😆👍
Exactly. The audience coming to see the 6th Terminator movie because it has Arnold and Linda coming back hold the characters in a high regard and don't want the movie to start off by telling them 'to hell with your favorite Terminator movie. It was in our way'
Killing John Connor ironically killed the franchise. John Connor is the Terminator franchise, not the cyborgs.
Accurate.
Dark Fate makes T3 looks like a masterpiece, T2 a priceless gem and T1 a beautiful antique that will be remembered and compared for decades.
you ask WTF Happened To Terminator Dark Fate? I ask WTF is Terminator Dark Fate?
When i watched the trailer, and i saw literally every character beating up the new Terminator, it made me not take him seriously. He's not a menacing threat if they can all just walk all over him.
Linda Hamilton was an absolute disaster in Dark Fate, awful dialogue and terrible delivery
She was the most annoying character of annoying characters, that include Arnold, the Grace chick, the not-John-Connor-chick. The most likeable character was the new terminator.
Killing John Connor off was a stupid idea and I hope the person who came up with that never work in Hollywood again

this movie made Terminator Salvation look like a masterpiece.
Having Sarah Connor AND Grace AND Dani Ramos AND a T-800 all fight against the Rev-9 almost makes me root for the underdog, even if it's the villain.
They got rid of the main character, John, and then tried to make another one of these women can do it better remakes. Which always seem to fail.
The only way these hacks making current movies is to destroy original characters and stories. They know that they lack the talent to compete
It's called Cultural Marxism. Look up Yuri Bezmenov, Four Steps for Communist Ideological Subversion.
It's not so much a lack of talent (while there definitely is that issue), it's about purposely destroying the past to help demoralize and destabilize society to the point where a social crisis (planned by the government) allows one side of the political spectrum to come along and offer the solution through social and economic justice.
The core problem was the Terminators. They're machines. They're supposed to be machines. They're not supposed to stop and chat instead of going for the kill. They're not supposed to feel guilty. They're not supposed to screech. They're not supposed to drop the disguise when it's working. Machines don't do that, and machines doing that makes them feel like cheap, badly written B villains.
This is what at the core makes T2 so good. The machines feel like machines. The only "break" is the T1000 wagging its finger at the end, but that is so small, and in such a situation, that it works. But all the other time travel Terminator movies miss the mark on that. All of them. They have the terminators doing mind bogglingly stupid stuff like drop a disguise, scaring the target away, or stopping to chat, or screeching like an angry kitten.
That one little detail makes the difference between successfully making the audience believe the terminator is a machine and making the audience roll their eyes and wonder when the movie is over.
I would expand on that to say the further they went away from sci-fi Horror to an action film the shittier it became. They even did that a little in T2, but the rest was good and new enough that it worked. When people talk about the tone of these films and how they want a “future war” film but not like salvation, they are talking about a film that is gritty and not humorous. The funnier you make these films the shittier they are.
When 2 of the main iconic actors are feeling bummed out or crying over their replacements youve fucked up
Never bothered with this one. None of it makes sense and I can't stand the "granny with a gun" trope either.
This film was complete shit...
💩
I knew it would be from the trailer so I never watched it and can honestly say I'm happy with that decision.
Hands down, the worst of all of them. The only thing worse than the killing off of John at the very beginning, was the ridiculous idea that that tiny girl would somehow look the part of a resistance leader. The old T-800 character, a close second. And the effort to try and diminish the importance of motherhood was just obnoxious and indicative of everything bad about Hollywood and identity politics. Absolute garbage movie.
You literally said everything I thought and hated about this monstrosity of a movie. They didn't just kill this franchise, they scorched and salted the earth to make sure nothing can ever grow again.
@ precisely
There was a bomb on my flight the other day. It was “Terminator: Dark fate”.
The problem with every sequel (besides Salvation) is it tried too hard to be T2. Personality why I think Salvation was a decent sequel regardless what people say. Every sequel tried to hard be an awesome Action flick when it should be Horror flim like the original.
I'm being 100% honest when I say that I forgot this movie exists.
Agreed
Well you're lucky but sadly you'll never get back the two hours you wasted watching this trash.
I’m really starting to think that Jim Cameron has fell off.
Damn! lol
People didn't like T3 or Salvation, but compared to Genesis and Dark Fate those films aged pretty well
Dark Fate and Genysis made Terminator 3 look like a better sequel by comparison. Frankly, I think the franchise would be better off if they'd have just continued on from that point, ignoring DF and Genysis.
Also, this video really is incomplete because you didn't mention some of the things that were said behind the scenes during this movie's production. For example, when Tim Miller said the following in an interview about it,
"If you're at all enlightened, she'll play like gangbusters. If you're a closet misogynist, she'll scare the fuck out of you, because she's tough and strong, but very feminine. We did not trade certain gender traits for others; she's just very strong, and that frightens some dudes. You can see online the responses to some fo the early shit that's out there, trolls on the internet. I don't give a fuck."
This, during a time when many fans were outright boycotting movies that feature girlboss characters, or that otherwise push what some would simply refer to as "The message".
Whether you agree with the hate this movie received prior to its release or not, it's still important to recognize the distaste for things like this which existed at the time, and still does to this day. It really has become a part of the overall zeitgeist of the moviegoing audience, and has accurately predicted whether many movies would be successful or not.
A more modern example of this would be Rachel Ziegler's upcoming Snow White.
The backlash is an important part of the story for movies like these.
I had SO MANY QUESTIONS after watching Terminator: Dark Fate such as how does the T-800 Terminator (Carl) even exist considering that John Connor, reprogrammed T-800 (Uncle Bob) and Sarah Connor stopped the creation of Skynet and therefore Judgment Day? How did they came up with a dumber sounding name than Skynet? Who approved this script? How was this written by FIVE writers? etc.
It's not Back to the Future. Time travel work different. Cameron approved and edited this script.
@samael_grey Cameron's approval means jack sh*t nowadays. He also supported Genisys, and that movie was garbage too.
@@samael_grey Indeed. BTTF's time travel makes sense because it's simple. Terminator is a thrill ride you turn your brain off and enjoy the esploshuns!
@RoosterMontgomery overall yes. But I think TDF is pretty smart in that thing. Less siple thought.
@Horrormaster13 garbage indeed. But he approved only part of the movie and NEVER say anything good about it after release. Unlike TDF, he supports it still.
They could make Arnold as a human character, soldier, maybe general on skynet program, on whom skynet would design T800 later on.
T3 behind the scenes
@@RioFordaysThat ranks high on of my list of all time cringiest deleted scenes in a film. Thus, OP’s idea that it would have worked better as it’s own plot for this movie instead of a throwaway “joke” to parody the source material.
Chief Master Sergeant William Candy😂🤣
Yeah, they did that in the T2 Trilogy novels, the human who the T-800 is based off and Sarah fall in love.
If they're intent on having Arnold Schwarzenegger as part of a future film, they have to do that (having a story about him as a human template) or have him as a full time younger version CGI character. The "old Terminator" storyline gets more cringe and frankly depressing with each passing film.
To be honest, John Connor 's death ☠️ is the reason why I don't watch this movie. I will only watch the first five films.
To this day, this is the only Terminator movie I haven't seen.
I feel for Tim Miller here since he was micromanaged by Cameron & really wasn’t allowed to do what he wanted. I missed this movie & don’t regret it
I’d tell you to see it. If you can deal with its preaching about imprisoned illegal immigrants and the cast full of women? Then you will have a great ride.
Best post-T2 movie is still Salvation 😊
Q1: If John Conner was dead, Why did Skynet keep sending back other Terminators?
Q2: How did Arnie know when and when they would arrive to send Sarah the details?
Q3: How did Arnie get her phone number? she was off the grid, it wasn't 1984 she wasn't in the phone book anymore.
Terminator 2 $517,000,000
Terminator Genysis $440,000,000
Terminator 3 $433,000,000
Terminator Salvation $371,000,000
Terminator Dark Fate $261,000,000
The Terminator $78,000,000
Total profits from each movie, you would need to take The Terminator and adjust the $78,000,000 for inflation, but rotten tomatoes scores are based on opinions which can be bias, numbers don't lie.
I only watched Dark Fate twice; once in theaters, once at home. That was enough for me. I'd rather watch the other Terminator sequels after T2 a million times at this point than watch Dark Fate again
The only films that Matter. Is T1 T2 and Salvation.😎
I watched this the other evening and I felt sad that I am getting old and will never get the time I wasted back. Wish I had just played with a stick and bucket of dog shit instead.
Amen
This movie made me angry. Yeah it’s just a movie, but the first two Terminator films are meaningful to me.
For me it ended with T3, the beginning of judgement day that got slightly delayed in T2.
Switching the narrative from being about motherhood and protecting your child to “it’s all about me now!” Was a terrible decision that doesn’t resonate with people.
Bro, I laughed so much watching this movie. How did this get the go ahead? lol. This era of Hollywood needs to be studied.
Just a disgusting film and insulted me with its very existence. Yeah, I'm salty, and I always will be. I love T2 and as a kid I saw myself in John Conner. He is the core of the whole franchise. This film is an insult to that core of the franchise and even though James Cameron gave his stamp of approval - he has a habit of endorsing things for money and abandon his creations, so, no, that doesn't mean anything. He probably has never watched this film and just said some kind words for a quick paycheck. There are only T1 and T2 as hard canon, and if I'm in a good mood I'd watch T3 and Salvation (which is underrated and had potential). As for this, it lives up to its title, 'Dark Fate', fitting for a terrible final film that ended the franchise.
Well said
I like to call it "Woke Fate." It makes me feel better...
It was such a slap in the face to Sarah and the fans. Everything she went through, saving the entire world, fighting to protect John, was pointless. It was all for nothing.
I think Dark Fate is the worst in the franchise. At least the bad ones like Genisys are fun to watch. This one just makes me angry. I'd watch any of the other sequels after T2 before I watched Dark Fate again
Do you need a hug?
"Terminator zero rules" said nobody ever.
No one wanted to watch a lesser rehash of T2 that shits on T2 in the first scene, that's the simplest way to describe it.
Terminator : D.E.I
The thing that’s hardest to swallow about this is that it almost could have been great but some of the head scratching decisions made by the creators really threw off the cliff and into the lava pit.
We're better off getting a film or series that recreates Terminator Resistance. The character of Grace is a direct ripoff of the Unisols in Universal Soldier
Should have taken the genesis story and upgraded t800 and gone forward. Dark fate was atrocious
I hate dark fate. It just makes no sense when ya really look at it.
Good example is the terminator that kills John Connor. Okay directive to kill John Connor… that tracks, no problem with that because it makes sense when it comes to Skynet’s logic so far. The problem is why was killing John Connor it’s ONLY directive? Wouldn’t Skynet put in a secondary objective for the Terminator to use its parts to ensure Skynet is created? I mean it was a terminator that was the basis of the Skynet supercomputer as we saw in T2 and the Terminator in that film had such a tragic ending cause he realized as long as he was around Skynet could still happen. Well… yeah huge plot hole for the terminator that killed John and then just went for a walk.
That’s what we call bad writing.
As far as the rest it was really derivative. We have a future resistance leader who learns on their future potential, a knockoff of the t3 terminatrix model with a combination of t-100 and t-1000 characteristics, etc.
In the end I wish Cameron would have just kept the original ending of T2 with a glimpse of the future where the war never happened, Sarah was a grandmother watching her congressman son John play with her granddaughter. That would ended the franchise once and for all on a hopeful note and thus no sequels.
Couldn't have said it myself, the T2 original ending to me is the real ending. No sequels, T1 and T2 make a perfect duology.
@@Nicholas_Chen_ T2:3D
Devils advocate on some points: Having a “second objective” like doing something to help create skynet doesn’t make sense either because where can a teminator go in the past to get reverse engineered to create skynet? Surely they could rely on backup data from cyberdyne and the hand crushed in the still mill and continue on as usual as if judgment day was postponed. Also, the villain in Dark Fate WAS a better implementation of a hybrid terminator, since it could literally separate into 2 separate enemies, whereas T-X felt like a cheesy WWE villain arc with nonsensical technology and acting that was beyond corny, especially with the E-gasm when she finds John’s DNA. The overall “plot” of Dark Fate is “eh”, but at least it has a more believable dark tone with the threat of the villain compared to softcore Cinemax Fap-bait with Dr Silberman as the only other OG actor in the film.
@@ChuckNoRes1984T3 sucks just as bad as you think Dark Fate does. Cope harder that the franchise failed and that T3 will never be good.
@@Djp2987 That was an attraction, it wasn't a narrative story.
What happened is that since post T2 Hollywood refused to learn its lesson and continued to hire directors that were not up to scratch and what made this even worse than previous sequels was bringing identity politics into it. Complete idiocy and they wondered why it did so bad and they will probably continue to churn out crap sequels with the same crap. It should not be that difficult, get Cameron to direct it with his original script he planned and leave out the identity politics and people will watch it.
The movie sucked because the grace character was absolutely horrid and so was the other main lead… went woke went broke that’s what happened to this movie the video could have been like 12 seconds long
They want to make money selling crap instead of the big payday and only do it once. Movies are all mostly crap these days! I miss the 80 and 90s when story was the main aspect, not how much CGI can we put it!
I often say T2 is the greatest action film ever made, the pacing is perfect, the action is perfect and the story is even better, what all these shitty movies dont have is the most important part of T2 and bringing back different T-800s that are the same model/likeness of Arnie is pointless. T2 was about a boy and his machine, the machine that only knew how to kill learns to love "I now know why you cry but it is something I can never do". He cares for John and John cares for him. This is why I have zero attachment for Arnie to keep returning, its not needed. The cameo in Salvation (albeit digitised) was good.
The only sequel to T2 you need is The Sarah Connor Chronicles
it bombed as they destroyed the whole reason T1 and T2 was even made.
No, it didn't.
T2 ended the original storyline. If that's the central idea, and they want to continue from there, you need to move on from the original idea and start a new storyline. John's fate was changed. He was expendable after T2. Now, if they killed him during T2, then the original storyline would be pointless.
I fall asleep within the 1st ten minutes every time I try to watch this turd of a movie.
They keep forgetting what is the basic cool factor of these movies; seeing the Terminator interact with and defeat humans. Think of Arnie first entering the nightclub in T1. It’s a male power fantasy. Don’t try to make it something else.
Dark Fate offered nothing new and made some very bad character and plot decisions. Particularly with John Connor’s death in the beginning of the film.
It was more cohesive and technically better directed than Genisys, but that wasn’t enough. It’s a case of a movie trying to have its cake and eating it.
Of all the sequels, T2 still is the one to beat. But I’d also say Salvation is underrated, at least that one was different and gave some awesome visuals. If it had an R-Rating and another script revision, Salvation would’ve been a classic entry.
The Terminator franchise waited far too long to take sequels seriously. Why was there such a massive gap after T2? James Cameron clearly isn’t in the same creative headspace he was in the '90s-he’s shifted, and it shows in his work. On top of that, the original cast has aged out of these roles. If the franchise wants to move forward, they need a filmmaker who truly loves The Terminator and T2-someone who understands what made those movies iconic.
They should embrace the practical effects, limited but smart use of CGI, and gritty tone that made T2 a masterpiece. Let the original actors retire gracefully. If their inclusion is necessary for the story, use CGI to recreate them exactly as they appeared in T1 and T2.
The portrayal of adult John Connor in the future flashbacks of T2 is the kind of consistency fans expect. Deviating from those visual and narrative cues breaks immersion, making it harder to suspend disbelief. When they get these critical details wrong, it pulls you out of the experience. The franchise needs to rediscover its roots to win back its audience.
I love how Terminator Zero and Terminator Resistance (video game) were more loved than last few Terminator movies.
When the opening act showed the death of John Conor. At that very moment this franchise died. Whoever came up with this storyline, should be fired, and never work in hollywood every again.
I think the idea of a Terminator who has completed it's mission, and gone on to gain self awareness is a fantastic idea, IF it's paired with an adult John Connor. Having John's attachment to his previous T800 conflicting with the constant worry that it's not really self aware, and it's really still carrying out a mission, could be interesting.
7:56 They digitally put keys because Natalia Reyes couldn't catch the keys 😂🤦♂️🙄
It needs to be more of a horror slasher type like the first one. Needs to have a stalker feel nothing past 2 had that “feel” of being hunted and terminated
Cameron was brave enough to kill John, but not brave enough to NOT replace him. In other words, if you want Sarah as the main character, make her the main character and don’t add a facsimile leader who has to walk in John’s shoes…Once he just swapped a substitute in, he told the audience he didn’t care about anything but Sarah and the whole integrity of the film falls apart.
People didn't want a trio of "girl boss".
When that many people have to put their input into a story, you know it's gonna suck.
This story has not been told or done to death. There have been so many missed opportunities to make the movie Cameron originally envisioned, but didn’t have the budget for. Terminator Resistance, the video game, came closest to what we all want from a terminator 2 sequel.
The terminator design was awesome, i love the combination of liquid metal with metal endo skeleton. One is the brains, the other is the drone, pretty cool.
I would love to see a 3hour non action film where Carl uses his Terminator vision to break in to the interior design business.
Charming shots of his van sparking against the ground due to his weight, moon eyed housewives as he hangs their curtains, then calms their babies.
Decades pass and soon Carl builds an army of devoted women willing to do anything he wishes.
Including storming the base of Cyberdyne for one last confrontation.....
Better than Terminator Genisys, but still not good. So Yeah, this is a reason why the first two Terminator movies are still the best ever made.
See, I agree that maybe the film is objectively "better". But at least Genesys falls a bit more into "so bad it's good". Dark Fate is just a bummer to sit through
@@M1keFoxxx Genesys is so bad, it's like a watered down fan fiction. The characters talk like they're from a cheesy kids show, they don't interact like in T1 or T2.
@@theurbanyouthat least Genysis had a cool beginning of the future war Dark Fate literally had nothing to make it interesting and had not so subtle woke messages they tried to push.
@@diggidy5367 Didn't Salvation do the future war for the entire movie? And I thought the quota T-1000 was a sign Genisys was woke, and it was just rehashing and watering down T1 and T2.
@@theurbanyouth the one brief appearance of a "quota t 1000" in Genysis is nothing compared to what they did in Dark Fate. From making the main three protagonist characters women, turning the leader of the resistance and "savior" of humanity into a 3 ft cute Latina, to putting the border patrol and its operations in a negative light, the movie was an abortion away from being a Democratic campaign commercial.
As for T Salvation being about the future war for the whole movie, that was a good thing and why it's liked by most Terminator fans. It broke from the norm and actually was about something other than "good/ bad guy go back in time to protect/kill". It actually addressed and was about what Terminator fans have been wanting since the beginning of the Terminator series: a film about the future war. At least Genysis gave a brief but pretty cool look at that.
I liked the idea of multiple possible futures sending back their own agents to create those different futures, which is not what they were going for and would be hard to follow. I wish that was what they were trying to do.
I come back and watch T1 and T2 every couple of years and still love them, the rest, if they were on tv as I flipped the channels I’d watch, but that’s it. Each of these movies has its moments, but not enough to save them.
Instead of retelling the same story they should have advanced it with the original actors. But Hollywood today rarely knows how to create something new. 🙄
Killing John destroys the whole point of the franchise made 0 sense
John, Connor is not a character. He's a plot point that's it. And he's held the series back. It's boring being about him all the time. You just didn't like it because it was a Mexican lady
@Thatmikecarter no, it ruins T2. That's why no one but apparently YOU doesn't like it. Don't push you're flimsy liberal cancel culture agenda and start calling people bigots because they didn't like something. You're a clown.
So the terminator kills john, then in remorse for killing john, he saves them all from the rev 9. Did none of the writers watch terminator 1? Reese legit says the terminator will NEVER feel remorse. Also, because the t-800 kills john, this means that the resistance never exists, meaning protecting Dani does nothing, because skynet already won.
