One of my favorite songs...EVER.....was blessed to have the opportunity to sit in a small setting to hear him sing it and to then tell him how much I ve always loved it...and my favorite keyboard player/ musical director James Shelton..... Detroit...so full of GIFTS! .❤️

I used to have this song on a continuous loop back in the early 80s! I just truly loved this song! The vocal, background, harmonies etc where everything!

Growing up I didn't like songs such as this...probably because I didn't understand them. NOW, I'm in amazement at the talent. This man's tenor, after all these years, is flawless.....sheer perfection. I'm SO GLAD I found this video.

A tenor who has a range like EJ and the 500 falcetto singers in the industry ..is important.Yes the man has a great head voice...but it's seated strongly on top of good old gospel tenor.A rare thing he is!!

But give Philly their props Frankie Beverly, the Stylistics, Intruders, Three Degrees, Tammi Terrell, Phyllis Hyman, Delfonics, Boyz ll Men, Harold Melvin and the BlueNotes, Billy Paul, Blue Magic, Patti Labelle, Barbara Mason, Teddy Pendergrass, McFadden and Whitehead, DeeDee Sharp, Solomon Burke . Sister Sledge, Brenda and the Tabulations, Hall and Oates, Rachelle Ferrell, Jill Scott, Eve, Lisa " left eye Lopes " Evelyn " Champagne " King, Chubby Checker, The Roots, The Trammps, Grover Washington jr., Pieces of a Dream, Stanley Clarke, Musiq Soulchild, Breakwater, The Futures. Not to take anything from the other groups Philly had that Unique soulful sound! My legendary philly DJ cuz Sonny Hopson use to spin those vinyls back in the day on radio station WHAT. Philly DEFINITELY had fantastic r and b talent I really thought this had a Detroit/Chicago Midwestern vibe to it Phyllis Hyman was the best but I think was from Pittsburgh initially making her a yinzer

He's the lead singer of Enchantment so he sang the original! He is much older now than we he first sang it back on the 1970's. Still, he has aged well and still sounds great! When you're in your late years of life, let's see how many things you can do just as good as you did them in your early 20's.
Unless you heard him sing it live back in the late 70's you cannot compare the two.
