    I have a 2000 Excursion 7.3 with 220k miles. It's our family wagon for trips and such. Best vehicle I've ever owned. Going to attempt changing out the back pressure valve and tube today. Cool vid

      Kyle Coulombe I haven't got to it yet. I'll try to do it tomorrow or sat and report back. We have a trip planned Thanksgiving week and I need to get it done before then.

    My first car was my grandfathers handmedown 2002 7.3 Excursion. Fantastic truck, no major issues. 320k miles on the original engine.

      good proactive maintenance schedule and highway miles, some vehicles will go near 1M+ and some will not come close failing at 45 to 90k and costing massive amounts to get that far (yet sheeple still buy them) >_>

    • @za-jm8wf
      @za-jm8wf 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes that v10 is a beast. I got rid of it and got the 7.3 simply due to mpg and wanting a diesel. But I really liked my v10

    • @gc99289
      @gc99289 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      6.8 V10 is the gas variation of diesel in terms of reliability and torque. A lot cheaper to maintain, with only flaw being MPG, but while gas is cheap, who cares.

    • @gc99289
      @gc99289 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@za-jm8wf Does 7.3 feel like a snail in comparison? I was pleasantly surprised at V10's acceleration.

    • @za-jm8wf
      @za-jm8wf 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@gc99289 my is tinned so it doesn't feel like a snail but I'm sure stock it would feel like a snail. My v10 was very responsive and had great pick up and go. But I got a great deal on the diesel so it was hard to say no and I could sell for more than I paid for.

    The 7.3 was truly a great engine, as a guy who owns 2 Chevys (1 gas, 1 dmax) with well over 100k each. I also have an 00 F550 with just under 56k and no problems.
    I also know a guy who owns 2 excursions (7.3 and 6.0) the 7.3 has well over 400k but the 6.0 has just under 130k and has needed a lot of work.

    We just completed 2 months towing our 30 foot travel trailer all over Utah, Arizona, Colorado, South Dakota, Kansas, Nevada, California and Nebraska in tge 7.3 Excursion. For a family its just so fantastic. We paid a lot for ours as it had 55k miles, now has 93k miles. Worth every penny. What a vehicle.

      Nick Holzemer same I'm a Cummins guy but you pay out the nose for a clean or stock Cummins. 7.3 is probably the most solid diesel ford has put in their trucks. I can't say much about the 6.7 because I don't know too much about them but they seem pretty solid.

      I'm a Chevy guy too, and I love the 7.3, I had a bad experience with the 6.0 when it blew a head gasket on me (typical), but once that was fixed, I never had any more issues. But I do think the 7.3 is a better engine, it may not be big on power, but it has more longevity than any 6.0 would ever have.

      Stock air box all the way- Jeeze nothing says I don’t give a crap like a unprotected oiled air filter.
      Why not just run it wide open no filter

    Nice, they just break in the engine. A coworker has/had an excursion with 800k km, he got it with half million km from his dad who loved to travel and was kind of a guide. He then put another 300k km on it. Engine and transmission was original and in great shape, besides that I believe they had changed 5 or 6 times the water pump, a few starters, 3 alternators 2 radiators, etc. Amazing vans to drive in the highway great MPG but in the city they will kill you.

    I love the oil "pressure" gauges on Fords. Same reading whether real pressure is 1psi or 100psi. How have they gotten away with that for so long? I have a 66 F100 with the 352 my grandparents bought brand new. I has an oil light and an oil pressure gauge, and yes, there are two sending units on the engine for each to properly function.

  • @soleary5555

    Daniel, what's your opinion of those K&N intakes: worth it or gimmick? Does it really make a performance difference? And if you have a truck under warranty, do you risk having that warranty voided by installing an intake?

    • @helgaairhead
      @helgaairhead 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are utter garbage - no performance gain and they ruin the engine as they clogg up due to the oil on the filter, and cause the sealing on the filter to collapse {flat filter}. Also this clogging cause the engine to suck oil trough the breather/dog house leaving the owner to believe the engine are burning oil like bad rings. I tell you I have seen this happen to customer of mine - some have lost an engine some have lost theyre warranty. Best airfilter on the 7.3 PSD are the Donaldson upgrade kit that came trough Ford as an uppgrade from the bad sealing issue on the flat filter box design, Donaldson filters are like the OEM ones on the 6.0 PSD. Performance vise as a daily driver the K&N are not worth taking the risk of dusting. - I will reccomand the cold air S&B paper filter if you want to do a performance upgrade and Donaldson if best protection.

      They were only in production from 2000-2005. They are the largest production passenger vehicle ever made. With proper maintenance, proper EGR valve cleaning, and knowing how to back flush your engine coolant system they will last forever. These trucks body's will completely rust off before the engine would die. You get what you pay for. I've owned mine for 5 years now. I have the 6.0 PSD. It's been a great truck for our family. No head casket or head bolt issues at all. Of course I maintain my vehicle with Amsoil products only. Also, is best to have coolant and oil filtration systems in place. I have both, made by Sinister Diesel. Our is a 2003 with just 105k miles, it's almost 15 years old now, still looks like new.

    each of those excursion used OVER 55,000 gallons(each) of fuel total
    you spend about $130,000 to $150,000 on fuel assuming 2.59-2.89 per gallon. about $9,300 to $10,000 per year on fuel
    you must make bank. to support that fuel hog
    I used about about 2087 gallons (miles 48,000) on my gas guzzler v6 $6464 over (at $3.09 ) 5 years of ownership of my car
    the people who claim to get 20 or 25MPG on a 7.3L are very stupid and running a setup that changes the speed of the odometer i.e Larger tire size different gears etc.. with out programing the change into the computer or speed cable(if it has that) which speeds up the mileage clock

    DO NOT trust the tranny temp gauge on the '02-04 generation. It is absolutely worthless. They move to the normal range (and stay there) at around 80F tranny temp and won't move to yellow till about 210F, and red at 250F. By that point, its smoked. I have an '02 7.3 Ex as well with 275k on it, and two trans temp gauges. One Auto Meter that reads from the high pressure port, and a OBDII scangage from the pan sensor. With an aftermarket large cooler it has never went past 185F, even towing 14,000lbs of gravel in 95F degrees. But under no circumstance trust that dash gauge. I do still have the original transmission and converter, 4R100. I also have a '99 E350 7.3 with 360k on it, love 7.3s. I will say, to anyone comparing the 2000-01 to an '02-05 Ex, the seats/interior are much more comfy in the 00-01. I've drove both and like I said I own an '02 Limited Ultimate and love everything about it except the seats, very uncomfortable and kill our legs on anything over hour or say 75 mile trips. Unless you're like 6'8 tall the bottoms are too long and bucket risers too tall and cut off blood circulation. I also dislike the auto digital climate control but that's a different story haha. Hope these keep on ticking!

    Looking for excursions that have collided with objects. I was rearended by one that i believe was going too fast on a icy bridge. An off duty police was driving. An off duty police was first on scene. I was unconscious. Police report said I was out of control. Lawyers won't take on police.

    Nice power plant...I've got a 2001 f2shity 7.tree all original with over 740 thousand miles. Michigan truck plowed every winter of its life and works construction. Still stroking and purrs like a kitten 😸...
    13 letter shitspreader INTERNATIONAL best diesel ever made. Been driving it for 23 years now..wouldn't trade it for a rocket ship
