    Thank you for explaining every detail, especially how to remove the fan before taking off the serpentine belt and for how to take off the serpentine belt. Great step by step instructions for a non-mechanic like me!

    Thank you very much for your time, and patience. My 15 year old son is going to change the water pump on his great grandfather's 1989 Chevy station wagon, and now you are a part of that. I appreciate you.

    Man, what a great step-by-step video! Thank you. I know very little about cars, but watching this has given me the confidence to attempt this fairly easy (knock on wood) procedure. My Chevy truck is an '86, so I'm hoping there are no major differences.

    Thanks! Didn't know what I was going to do about the bracket but you just took the pulley off the front of the "smog pump" so that's what I'll do. Thanks for the help!

    Great vid and talking through the steps. I'm gonna add something, which is not mandatory but a good habit. With the new gaskets, I've always put the correct type of sealant (gasket maker) along with the gaskets, to help with future leakage possibilities. Also, the sealant will help with keeping the gaskets in place, but use the bolts as well, obviously.

    • @mvamobile
      @mvamobile  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, i have used the sealer in the past and i did not notice much difference as as the gasket was installed properly.

    Thank you! I have replaced water pumps in the past (a long time ago) during my years of being a mechanic (parts changer) in the army.
    This really helped to refresh my memory and confidence.
    Trying to help my son save a little money.
    Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

    Thanks for the video, but I think it would be wise, service manual advises as well, to put a thin coating of RTV on the block surface and the pump surface before reinstalling the new pump. Not in place of the paper gaskets, but in addition to.

    Howdy, my son's 93K1500 popped his serpentine belt going down the highway, when It got towed home, I realized that the entire water pump pulley had removed itself from the water pump, still attached to the fan and fan clutch. Watching the video it looks like the pulley should've slid off of the 3 (or 4) bolts? Nothing is remaining from the water pump besides the little bump it slides on to. Can I just push it back onto the pump and the belt will keep it there? Doesn't seem right. And practically impossible to remove the 4 bolts while it is off. Seem like I might need to buy everything from pump to the fan clutch and start over, whatcha think?

    • @mvamobile
      @mvamobile  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like you definitely need a new water pump. you might be able to use the fan if you can get the bolts out by using a vise to hold it.

    • @mvamobile
      @mvamobile  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the bearings in the water pump break it would break the seal and the tension on the belt. That would make the belt come off and it would leak coolant from the water pump. You have to replace it.
