About this video: Shaders is one of the most popular Minecraft mods out there, and this video is a complete guide on how to download and install Minecraft Shaders for 1.21. Our goal is that no matter what, you will be able to use shaders in Minecraft 1.21 and take your graphics experience to a completely new level.
First things first, we will need to download the Shaders mod for Minecraft 1.21. We are specifically going to be using the Iris Shaders mod for Minecraft 1.21. Iris shaders is an alternative shaders mod to Optifine 1.21. This is great if Optifine hasn’t updated to Minecraft 1.21 or if you are looking to use Fabric mods or get an overall better experience, which Iris Shaders can provide over Optifine.
In order to download Iris, click the “Download Iris” link in the description above. This will take you to our in-depth text guide on getting shaders without Optifine 1.21 using Iris. On this page, click the “Download Iris” button. This will take you to the official Iris Shaders download page. There, you will see a “Download Universal Jar” button. Click that to download the Iris Installer.
Next, open up the Iris Shaders Installer using Java. Specifically, you will need to use Java 21 as this is now required for shaders in Minecraft 1.21.
In the Iris Shaders installer, select the 1.21 version and click the “Install” button. The Minecraft 1.21 shaders mod will then install on your PC!
Now, we need to download shader packs. Shader packs are what allow you to actually get shaders in Minecraft, and every shader pack is different with its own unique style. There is a link in the description above to our list of the best shader packs. Once you find a shader pack you want, you can download it. Most shader packs are downloaded from CurseForge or Modrinth. Just make sure that the shader pack you download is for the Minecraft 1.21 version.
With your shader pack downloaded, open up the Minecraft Launcher and play Minecraft using your Iris + Sodium 1.21 installation. Sodium is a Minecraft performance mod that is packaged with Iris shaders.
From there, with Minecraft 1.21 opened with the shaders mod, click on “Options”, “Video Settings” and “Shader Packs” at the top. This is your shaders menu where you will be able to manage all of your shaders in Minecraft 1.21. As far as how to install Minecraft shaders in 1.21 on PC, just drag-and-drop the shader packs you downloaded into this shader menu. When you do, the shader packs will appear in the menu.
You can now select a shader pack and and click “Apply” to activate it. There is also a “Shader Pack Settings” button at the bottom center of the shader menu. This is where you can change and customize different settings with a shader pack. Every Minecraft 1.21 shader pack is different and will have different settings.

Hi, thanks for the videos. Super helpful. Had a question, I got shaders working but then the mods stopped working.Curious if you know what the issue is.

First youtuber i watched wanted me to use not Iris and yeah...the downloads page does that thing where the pop up ads have "download" like...thats the ad and yeah ahaha installed a pletera of viruses ahah i have not done that in the while i normally pride myself lf my antivirus abilities.

I installed Iris, the java file, and the jarfix, but the Iris profile crashes with the error code: -1 whenever a world is booted. I can't find a solution either.

hi awesome vid! i have an issue when opening my iris instalation,, i did everything you did up until 4:55 and after i click play it loads a lil before an error pops up saying ''a mod crashed on startup and im confused cause i dont have any mods installed at the moment,, are you able to help me?

I don't have the 'options' section when you load on or the 'installations' section when I go on either!! I've done everything correct it is just the moment I load onto minecraft it doesn't let me choose anything differently, no different IRIS shaders or the options section also doesnt exsist help me please!!

thanks man, i tried to download a shader mod last week and installed nasty malware. It made my CPU 100% and blocked windows defender. Ive been so scared to try and install a mod again. I appreciate you.
So i'm having some trouble. I have installed java 21 and Iris but java 21 is not appearing in my downloads when i select how to run Iris. I have seen them in my downloads on my PC and whenever i select Iris and attempt to run it through java the files do not appear to be present. I even opened a copy of file explorer separately to make sure it downloaded and can only see the files in that separate folder. Please send help :)

So I recently got my pc and went straight to Curseforge however that seems outdated or slower to update compared to Modrinth and now I’m looking to use Iris and Fabric. I followed this tutorial prior, so do I need to uninstall “Iris Only” and download “Iris + Fabric”?
