I didnt actually know that this can be installed DIRECTLY WITH IRIS. That is such a nice quality of life feature and really makes it much less of a mod and more of just the standard in the future from what I'm seeing. I ALWAYS download iris and ALWAYS download shaders with every Minecraft update. Now I just have the option to install distant horizons with one button press and that's that? Absolutely phenomenal.
@@TheOriginalMaxose Neither it was to me. What i did instead is i googled and downloaded the Distant Horizons 1.21.1 version from Modrinth, took the downloaded .jar file and put it in the .minecraft/mods/ folder, booted up minecraft as shown in the video via iris and it worked.

They spend a year on adding one or two mobs with barely any functionality, whilst there’d mod developers which do stuff that radically changes the game for the better in the same time or less. Mojang is just too afraid to rock the boat and do anything actually new, because as it is now, the game is still bring in swathes of cash. Why innovate when stagnancy is more profitable?

i normally use nvidium but this is pretty cool to work with shaders. kind of hope the iris devs also try to work with nvidium because the way nvidium does far render distances is so much better.
The latest Iris installer doesn't have the Distant Horizons box to check off (as shown at 1:43). When I select options in game, there's no box in the top left for Distant Horizons in-game settings (3:50)

First step fo the guide is already incorrect. The IRIS download doesnt have distant horizon and all the rest it only has two things in it the iris and sodium files so where are the others?
For a huge performance boost: FYI dont use the normal Java that comes with the louncher. I my case it used Java 8 which has waaaay less performance than Java JDK 17. Just install that and set your louncher to java 17. You can do that in the same menu as the ram. After installing go to the menu and click on browse: then navigate to programmfiles/java/jdk-17/bin and select the java.exe Thank me later
@@EmmanuelB minecraft can't even run on java 8 anymore its impossible, the launcher automatically installs the compatible java so you were already on java 17
you can get the tectonic mod with this and it makes it look insanely awesome, you can also get some others but those are just overwhelming and makes it look to packed for the smaller details to show up, tectonic has more open spaces meaning you can see more awesome things.

47 yr old IT guy here and this is kicking my butt and I'm not sure why. I have a simple setup with the bare minimums needed to get DH installed and runnng. I have the button next to the FOV slider and all my options appear with no errors when setting DH to enabled, however my cpu doesn't go above 10%. I expected it to be between 75-90% while DH generates chunks, especially when I have "I paid for the whole CPU" enabled. Now, I've heard that chunky is incompatible (I can't get it to work at all with DH installed). While some say they use chunky to help load the chunks in, I hear others day that DH does this for you. I've also heard others say you have to fly around and explore the areas so DH can load them in. I guess I'm not understanding. If I fly around, the chunks that loaded in behind me disappear. Exiting out of the server and rejoining and then it's a whole dumpster fire of mess, random chunks here and there, and exploring an area shows all new land. I have two systems I've tried this on, a Ryzen 9 8945HS and an Intel Core i9-9900K.. both with 64gb RAM. Can someone please help me understand what I'm doing wrong? I'm running 1.21, Fabric loader 0.16.0 and no shaders until DH works right. I REALLY appreciate any help in advance!
Yeah you dont need chunky, im using DH without. You also dont need to fly/walk around DH does it automatically. What LOD Render Distance Radius did you use in DH settings? You need to use values like 64,128,512,1024 and so on... Does DH work normally in a singleplayer world for you?

2:53 Read somewhere that Minecraft isn't optimized for excessive ram allocation, so that you wouldn't see better results beyond 6 or 8 gigs, no matter how much your PC has.
I've tested DH at (almost) max settings at 256 chunks, with 24gb of ram, then 16gb and then 8gb. With 24gb, it was really not stable, 16gb was much better, and no difference between 16gb and 8gb. So yeah, what you've read might be true.

This video is no longer working. Using the Iris Installer won't give you the files in the mod folder shown in this video. It only gives you two.

yes, distant horizons is now installable for 1.20.1 officially and its not buggy enough to the point it is considered a beta
