Hey, Paul! I first heard a pipe organ in college--in my freshman year, an artist name Carl? or Thomas? Richter? (it was 50 years ago) performed two concertos one was for piano and orchestra and the last was Poulenc, Concerto in G minor for organ, timpani and strings. The Poulenc just levitated me off my seat and I have never forgotten it. I somehow quickly found a recording of it by the French National Orchestra, with Marie Claire Allain. OMG. Well, I've never heard a live performance since, but it's kind of on my bucket list. I had some music training, but remain an amateur tenor vocalist (sacred. opera--but I repeat myself.) I went into the mental health field (counselor) and it struck me some years ago that the Organ Concerto can be described as a tone poem about Bi-polar I disorder. I just love it, but for daily organ listening I am partial to Handel's Organ Concertos. I would say Mozart, but he wasn't known for writing for the pipe organ so much, right? I'll have to look into that further. Anyway, have you ever considered learning that piece? What do you think of it?? Thanks for all your contributions on TH-cam.

You’re not only a talented player and composer, but also a fantastic communicator. It’s wonderful to see fresh life breathed into this beautiful instrument. I’m at the other end of the scale age-wise, and I’ve started to realise that we (myself included) haven’t done enough to connect with younger audiences. However, with the advent of social media and the efforts of great exponents like yourself, the organ is thankfully getting more attention. I’m now on a mission to find ways to engage the younger population and ensure that our pipe organs don’t suffer the same fate as many did in the latter half of the last century-falling into disuse and deterioration because there was no one to play them. I’m really hoping to master some of your pieces for a live audience next year as part of this process. They’re perfect for a mixed audience, and I’m excited to share them. Thank you for your work, and keep inspiring!

I think that "Simple Gifts" is so well known in the USA because Aaron Copland included it in his Orchestral Suite taken from the ballet, "Appalachian Spring". He used it since it was already a well-known hymn tune.
