Hans Zimmer wrote this soundtrack without knowing what the film was about, he was only ordered that in a few days he would deliver a work that would express through music the relationship between a father and a son. And that was what he gave, shortly after he found out that it was actually Father-daughter, because he didn't even know the story of the movie prior to that. When he delivered, the film's producer told Hans Zimmer that the film was in fact a science fiction film. And he asked him to go darker... A powerful instrument that will represent the presence of humanity before the vast and powerful universe.

Huge compliments, Richard. Playing movie soundtracks on the organ is in itself already quite challenging, but playing Hans Zimmer on organ is even more challenging. And playing Hans Zimmer so well and sensitive with perfect timing is almost undoable, but you did it. Very well done (says a huge fan of this particular soundtrack).
Thanks - really appreciate that. This video took many months to prepare and put together and I’m really proud of it. What a soundtrack Interstellar is though!!
@@beautyinsound You asked about that motif - it is the simplicity of its build. Organ music can be grand and multilayered. This distills it to simplicity.
It's not possible... No, it's necessary! Getting flashbacks and goosebumps all over. One of the most epic soundtracks of all time and played just how it is meant to be played.
@@beautyinsound How about combining this with like a full arrangement with strings, piano i mean all the instruments in the original score, like you can keep this same organ segment but for strings piano you can combine them in a DAW and release it basically as a full movie score, rather than just an organ arrangement, just my idea, what do you think?

My first trip to Europe was in 1985. I was in Salisbury while a organ festival was going on. I could not get tickets for the organ concert; so, I sat outside the cathedral in the dark listening to the organ music. The cathedral was spotlit at night. What a great experience. As I wandered around the grounds, I was visited by the spirits of the ancient monks toiling around the cathedral. One of my favorite nights of the trip. After all these years, the memories remain vivid. It is as if I was there yesterday. Thanks for bringing them back.
This is my favorite movie of all time. I’m an Aerospace Engineer by degree. I could watch Interstellar almost every day. When I found this incredible composition of Hans Zimmer I could not believe my ears. Thank you so much for the Interstellar recreation! All the best, John S. Norman, OK.
Simply amazing sound. Four keyboards, foot pedals, hands, arms and feet all coordinating at once. Your neurons must be on fire playing this! My respect to the people who designed and built this beautiful piece of musical architecture.

Time to watch the movie again. Hans Zimmer is a musical genius by far. And Chris Nolan probably created one of the best and emotional movies ever. Soul touching.
I visited the Salisbury Cathedral last year and I got the opportunity to hear this organ being played and to be honest I don’t have words do explain how majestic this instrument sounds.
I wish I could've been in the cathedral while this was played. To sit among the Purbeck marble columns as music rained down on me from above, dripping with history.
There was a competition some years back where the prize was a Cathedral style Organ. A father and daughter from our town went overseas and competed against people from around the world. They won. In Grafton New South Wales the organ within our Cathedral was won. I was fortunate to hear this duet play and the sounds are amazing. It’s like a sixth dimension is hitting you from the inside out.

There's something about the way the song was written is just so calming, he is amazing at playing the organ and the way the sound bounced of the walls. It leaves me speechless every time.😲🙂

I really wish you could do this as a public organ recital. I’d happily pay a handsome fee to see, hear and feel this on an epic organ. Blows my socks off.
I'm sure there are real organists playing in some of the churches. Mass is the pinnacle of God's love, and music is our response to how much we want to celebrate it
Organists...and those who understands the organ -music lives in the 4th dimension...it is a different and beautiful world!!! Thank you for playing for me and us!!! I love it so much!!!🙏🙏❤
I was fortunate enough to see Roger Sayer perform this at Leicester Cathedral last weekend - Salisbury got a mention! (Apparently it wasn't available to help out with the recording of the score due to being too busy!) Listen, fair play
Organs are just one of the most complex, but ornate instruments ever conceived. It's a piano, yes....but it needs MASSIVE pipes to allow its power to echo through the chambers. Simply no instrument in its caliber. Quite literally: angelic. Be safe everyone. Well performed, without question.
If you ever have the opportunity to attend an organ recital in a cathedral, do so. There is usually only a handful of people in attendance, so you have the whole cathedral...and the music...largely to yourself. A nighttime recital at St. Paul's in London is an awesome experience. You, a dozen or two other people, and the music.
The thing about an organ of this magnitude, is that it's not IN the room. It IS the room. Sound comes at you from everywhere, all at once, with a physical presence. I'm not religious by any stretch of the imagination, but I can understand why this music might lead one to believe, on emotion alone. Very impressive.
The editing really made me try to imagine what it’s like to be the person sitting on the bench with their hands and feet on the keys. It must be an absolutely overwhelming experience to melt into an instrument the size of a large room and make the whole cathedral sing. Beautifully done. I’m going to go watch interstellar now.
I'd love to hear this played live whilst sat in the cathedral itself. One of my favourite recent films and for some reason i can't watch it without crying! Don't know why. Perhaps it's the subject matter underscored with the fabulous soundtrack? This reminds me of sitting in the church in the centre of Edinburgh a few years ago with my late sister listening to the wonderful organ playing "modern" tunes. Sublime.....oh I'm tearing up again! Just purchased the CD and can't wait to hear this on my stereo!
@Richard McVeigh | BEAUTY IN SOUND received the CD today and had a listen through my headphones. Sounds fantastic. Just one problem.....not long enough! I can stick it on repeat I suppose. Thank you.
Bravo to the engineers that captured this audio. A fantastic job of capturing the essence of the space and instrument. Well done! I was moved because of your audio excellence. Again I say, well done.
@@michaelpettersson4919 Fair enough be imagine being responsible as the one to take those analog sounds and actually make them sound pretty decent digitally
Wow, quelle performance. Superbe vidéo 👏👏👏
Wish I could've been there in person to hear (feel) that C Major chord rip through those pipes, heard at about 2:00 minutes in. The sound from that organ must've vibrated every bone in the organist's body. The organist always has the best seat in the house. Truly powerful and amazing. I had to buy the digital download to blast that through my 7.3 surround sound system...it has bass fueled by 3 subwoofers running at a combined 2500W, but even that wouldn't do the live performance justice!
incredible, the sound , the atmosphere, i wish i was there live . also to imagine these organs are the largest musical instruments i the world. Hes playing one note thats siiting on the other side of the room, as the whole room is a soudchamber.
This organ (master) can abosultely belt it out. The sound engineers deserve respect... I can blast this at home without distortion when many other things make my speakers buzz and have to turn them down. Family are considering a sound bar and told them this song will be the test of whether it's good.
I remember the day in my childhood walking into Salisbury Cathedral when the organist was playing, Amazing sound that has stayed with me since. Beautiful 👍
Merci du fond du cœur de nous faire partager ces notes magiques et magnifiques auxquelles votre talent se joint aux orgues . Mes sincères compliments Richard
when you think about it. at one point in time.......medival time.....an organ was the most complex thing humans have ever build. all this work and craftmanship just to listen to music
Listening to this is absolutely amazing, my two 18 inch subwoofers were tearing up my house especially with the last low notes around 11:00! One of my dreams to hear this played live
The crumbling of humanity against the backdrop of being a speck in the endless expanse of the universe; united by the only element that you can't taste touch or see: love. That is interstellar in a nutshell to me. . .
You asked about the motif... To me it is a mixture of sadness and hope. Interstellar can be one of the saddest movies you ever watch, or one of the most hopeful, and Hans somehow captured that in his music. Just my 2 cents worth, your mileage may differ :-) And thank you for a wonderful performance, and especially the peek into the setup of the crescendo. Awesome.
Zimmer in general, and especially Interstellar OST, is incredibly difficult to play right. I've seen so many career musicians fail utterly in following the very sensitive balance of rhythm and intensity. This was as perfect as a human is ever going to give you. Edit: No time for caution was walking a little bit :D

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.«
(The Gospel of Jesus Christ - Matthew - Chapter 1)
It was amazing ❤
This man has the best coordination I've ever seen. Playing 4 separate keyboards with his hands, AND an extra one with his feet.
Don't forget sometimes another spare hand or foot has to change the settings of the whole organ too.😂
And adjusting the stops.
It’s like dancing.
@@beautyinsound
Oom
I leave my comment here so that, when I receive the notification, it reminds me to listen to this wonderful soundtrack again.
Here’s a notification 📣
And another one!
hey listen
Come back and listen!!
There are a few moments in time when I have been completely in awe of the human race - this is one of them
Oui je me dis quelques fois la même chose 😌des moments rares mais importants malgré tout, comme une piqûre de rappel pour ne pas oublier le côté positif de l’humanité quand bien même il m’arrive de douter,très souvent,...😪
That opening to cornfield chase just immediately brought tears to my eyes. A brilliant performance of one of the greatest film scores ever written.
The film wasn't that half bad either
The cornfield scene and score is sometimes very hard to hear, and yet I go back to it over and over again.
This is my favorite movie of all time. I’m an Aerospace Engineer by degree. I could watch Interstellar almost every day. When I found this incredible composition of Hans Zimmer I could not believe my ears. Thank you so much for the Interstellar recreation! All the best, John S. Norman, OK.
Hans Zimmer has made me shed tears more times than any other human
Simply amazing sound. Four keyboards, foot pedals, hands, arms and feet all coordinating at once. Your neurons must be on fire playing this! My respect to the people who designed and built this beautiful piece of musical architecture.
imagine being able to play this in a massive hall to hundreds of people enjoying this masterpiece
imagine being able to play this in a massive hall to hundreds of people
imagine being able to play this in a massive hall
imagine being able to play this
Time to watch the movie again. Hans Zimmer is a musical genius by far. And Chris Nolan probably created one of the best and emotional movies ever. Soul touching.
Cornfield Chase might just be the most beautiful piece of music ever written
Came here for the music (which is amazing), but, wow, this cathedral really looks amazing, truly an architectural marvel.
What an instrument, and what use of it! My word. How did Hanz Zimmer not receive an Oscar for this OST?
Because Hollywood is in the hands of "the world"...
Things divine go beyond it ... at least most of the time!
Probably my favorite Hans Zimmer score, I think because it sounds so sweet and simple in some places, but still so deep and moving in others.
I visited the Salisbury Cathedral last year and I got the opportunity to hear this organ being played and to be honest I don’t have words do explain how majestic this instrument sounds.
i think that's the best thing that I ever heard in my entire life
This is one of those videos that you simply cannot turn off. Your brain wants to hear and see it.
I wish I could've been in the cathedral while this was played. To sit among the Purbeck marble columns as music rained down on me from above, dripping with history.
Dude’s playing a whole building instead of an instrument.
This is insane. Cheers, absolutely stunning xx
"no time for caution" is one of my absolute favorite tracks on the score for interstellar. i am in awe of hearing it on a live organ.
There was a competition some years back where the prize was a Cathedral style Organ. A father and daughter from our town went overseas and competed against people from around the world. They won.
In Grafton New South Wales the organ within our Cathedral was won. I was fortunate to hear this duet play and the sounds are amazing. It’s like a sixth dimension is hitting you from the inside out.
which church?
HOLY SHIT. I have never felt so many goosebumps. Just chilling and listening to this and my whole body feels like it left it’s self!!
Same. The greatest feeling in the world.
And eyes getting wet...
That's the Holy Spirit (it's a joke)
Literally said Holy Shit myself. Unreal. To see that live would have made my life never mind day.

Vav - "Behold The NAIL"
There's something about the way the song was written is just so calming, he is amazing at playing the organ and the way the sound bounced of the walls. It leaves me speechless every time.😲🙂
I'm so glad current composers such as Zimmer are appreciated for this kind of art. Cinema composition has produced pieces that will last centuries.

You guys did a great job making this video! It sounds wonderful!🤩🤩
Yeah well done
Cornfield Chase is absolutely amazing ❤
I really wish you could do this as a public organ recital. I’d happily pay a handsome fee to see, hear and feel this on an epic organ. Blows my socks off.
if they play zimmer music, I’ll go everyday to church
I'm sure there are real organists playing in some of the churches. Mass is the pinnacle of God's love, and music is our response to how much we want to celebrate it
When you only read the comments at the end you know it’s been special. Thank you so much.
You’re welcome, glad you enjoyed it!
Потрясающая до глубины души музыка , звучание органа!!!
This movie unlocked so much emotion in me. It needs to be re released in theaters
Organists...and those who understands the organ -music lives in the 4th dimension...it is a different and beautiful world!!! Thank you for playing for me and us!!! I love it so much!!!🙏🙏❤
Amen.
Beyond 'music'.
I was fortunate enough to see Roger Sayer perform this at Leicester Cathedral last weekend - Salisbury got a mention! (Apparently it wasn't available to help out with the recording of the score due to being too busy!) Listen, fair play
Honestly, there aren't really any covers that sound this close to the original soundtrack... Great job!!
Thank you, appreciate that.
This is breath taking. I've never heard all the songs put together like this. Imagine the music we could make if we had four arms instead of two.
This deserves millions of views
Wouldn’t that be nice! 😊
He's gonna get it
@Aryan Akhare he's gonna get it
Fun fact, this has 1 million views!!
1,6 now! \o/
The sound of the cathedral matches perfectly to the mood. goosebumbs!
The most precious creative asset of humanity
Imagine being in that chapel when this is played... Heaven on Earth ❤
No Time for Caution is spectacular, no matter how many times I hear or see it.
Glad you enjoyed it Andrew, and thank you for your purchase. It should even better on your hifi! 😃
@Richard McVeigh | BEAUTY IN SOUND received the CD today and had a listen through my headphones. Sounds fantastic. Just one problem.....not long enough! I can stick it on repeat I suppose. Thank you.
And the video footage of the interior of the cathedral was magical
One of the greatest movie soundtracks in the last decade. Very well done.
Bravo to the engineers that captured this audio. A fantastic job of capturing the essence of the space and instrument. Well done! I was moved because of your audio excellence. Again I say, well done.
Thank you. The only engineer was me 😉
And another to those that built the organ...
@@beautyinsound Take a bow sir!
@@michaelpettersson4919 Fair enough be imagine being responsible as the one to take those analog sounds and actually make them sound pretty decent digitally
Wow, quelle performance. Superbe vidéo 👏👏👏
Thank you very much!
working through the stops @ 2:00" and 4:30" to just open the taps is pure organ essence.
Textural, atmospheric, sublime !
Anyone within 10 miles of this performance felt the CHILLS ! Absolutely amazing
Truly one of, if not the best, soundtrack for a movie.
Man, I must say....... love the sound track of this movie. This is the best remake I've ever seen. Excellent, Perfecto
The positivity here is so refreshing. Thank you, everyone!
I've no words to explain what I'm feeling right now.
Oh do try!
Das hätte ich gerne live gehört..
Das klingt unglaublich schön..
Wahnsinn 👍
I don't know what it is but this is one of the most emotional movie scores I've heard. It's just fantastic.
LET GOD BE GLORIFIED THOUGH THIS 🙏 AMAZING❤
Мощно !!! И пьеса прекрасная ! Её великолепно исполнил на саксофоне великий Jimmy sax.❤😊
I remember the day in my childhood walking into Salisbury Cathedral when the organist was playing, Amazing sound that has stayed with me since. Beautiful 👍
just when you though the song couldent get any better and mysterious THIS MAN COMES IN!
Stay is definitely my favorite here because it had so much build up and gets so heart wrenching at the end
I'm not a believer, but listening to organ music in a church is special. It gives you goose bumps.
i knew we already had something special here but that first crescendo nearly brought a tear to my eye. Absolutely phenomenal cover.
Thank you!
Merci du fond du cœur de nous faire partager ces notes magiques et magnifiques auxquelles votre talent se joint aux orgues . Mes sincères compliments Richard
You’re very welcome! 😊
Thank you very mutch 😊
Would be pleased to come back to that beatiful cathedral and ear music in it more interstelar ost
when you think about it. at one point in time.......medival time.....an organ was the most complex thing humans have ever build. all this work and craftmanship just to listen to music
The organ is the most OP musical instrument that you pull out of your arsenal
I will pay money to sit there and listen to this. Its lovely thank you for sharing.
Listening to this is absolutely amazing, my two 18 inch subwoofers were tearing up my house especially with the last low notes around 11:00! One of my dreams to hear this played live
Sasiedzi cie zabija ;)
Must be overwhelming listening that piece in a hifi setup 😮
@@xevi2889 Its very good but imagine being right there!
The crumbling of humanity against the backdrop of being a speck in the endless expanse of the universe; united by the only element that you can't taste touch or see: love. That is interstellar in a nutshell to me. . .
this is for real! The beast film score by Hans Zimmer that portrays the inmensity and solitude of space-time
I don't know why every time I hear this masterpiece makes me think everything again
Thank you for this moment in "weightlessness" !
I actually get the shivers hairs on my skin go up...with the film original score...and hes pulled this off....same physical reaction....❤
Awesome.
Thanks 🙏
Music so beautiful it makes you tear up with emotion 😢❤
You are not slone😢😊
Zimmer in general, and especially Interstellar OST, is incredibly difficult to play right. I've seen so many career musicians fail utterly in following the very sensitive balance of rhythm and intensity. This was as perfect as a human is ever going to give you.
Edit: No time for caution was walking a little bit :D
Loved the entire "No Time For Caution" section : massive timbre and power....and those bass pedals ....🥰💗👌
If this doesn't give you goosebumps, then I wouldn't want to be you.
This is the kind of music this fabulous organ should be used for!
That's just fantastic. What an instrument! Wish I was sitting in the stands listening to this!
The Cathedral’s organist was sat underneath the pipes and I’m assured it was very loud 😉
Amazing. I’ve been there. I’ve stood right in the middle of that organ by myself while it was playing. It was life-changing.
