lots will disagree, but I'd just say punk. They both came out of that scene and it was punk as it was originally intended to be, a state of mind and a way to do whatever you want musically, before it became a homogenized sound and look.
Yeah, they definitely have a Boingo quality to them. I'm not sure if they ever had a following here in Ireland, but I don't know them at all. This is the first song of theirs I've heard. I knew a couple of Stan Ridgway songs, though. Which is weird.
It’s so hilarious how warped your perspective is.😂 You’d never consider the infinitely more likely case that indie bands are emulating new wave bands from the 80s and you just haven’t known enough music to recognise it when it’s happening, until now?
@@LanceABoyle I was at that show as well! We tried to go see PiL at some place on Staten Island but couldn't get in cos we were underage so we drove to the Ritz. I'm sorry to have missed the PiL show esp cos Mission of Burma opened and I think it was their final show but Wall of Voodoo was indeed great. I remember they opened with Ring of Fire.
The Godz !! Nothing less but the Godz !! Love to see Marc Moreland and his flying v...the end fully distorted is just killing ...the whole band at its peak, Stan's live acting is just awesome, he's living his lyrics...
I was still quite young when Mexican Radio hit MTV (must've been only about 7 or 8 years of age) and this band has been stuck in my head for my entire life so far. It's only now though, that I just realized how much Les Claypool's "style" was inspired by this
@@gogoyubari366, that's an overrated comment. Wait! How do I know that? I guess I am underrated..when it comes to that.. Or in the words of GOLDILOCKS: That's just about right..
I first heard wall of voodoo on “The Tube” in the UK. Stan was amazing. Never saw anybody command the stage like him. At the time I struggled to find out more about Stan Ridway. This was the time of Miami Vice and it was while watching an episode a track was played called “Pick it up & put it in your pocket” I was right when I found out it was Stan again. I think the episode was “Phil the Shill”
That's a professional band. Of course it's the type that might be in the position to be taken for granted, but as we see how huge that crowd is ...... They created an opportunity to travel the world doing what they loved. Bon appetito
From Stan's solo song "Talking Wall of Voodoo Blues": Now, it seemed like that old voodoo dog we had Was payin' for its fees We lost control of our own band To the record company Yeah, I guess we blew it big time Business got us bent We played a show for forty grand And the manager took every cent Every goddamn cent.
I was six years old when this video was recorded. All band members unique. Mark Moreland might be coked up,but who wasn't in the 80's? Picking up pre Primus vibes in Moreland 's guitar style,or is it just me?
yes they still more air play after all these years but after listening classic rock stations they the same three songs from the same three bands haven't changed there progr in 20 years
Didn’t Stan and Joe decide to leave the band right after this gig? That’s what I was told by someone a long time ago. I’m pretty sure it was the US festival when that split occurred.
I really tried to make a jam band into a Wall Of Voodoo type sound; I thought hand drums in such abundance were pretty smart. They thought String Cheese Incident and monte carlos were cool. Almost not really
A Millennial asked me, "What was it like to grow up listening to the worst music in history?" (referencing the pop 80s) Then I show them this band and they have this look like whoa! What was I thinking
Peace & Life Everlasting with Jesus ❤️ HEAVEN is the dwelling place not only of God, but also of the angelic beings who worship Him. Through the grace of God, Heaven becomes also the eternal dwelling place of all those who through faith have become God’s children. For them, to be for ever in the presence of God is to be in Paradise. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have Eternal Life. John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul ❤
Wall Of Voodoo and Oingo Boingo were two of my favorite bands in the 80s, and both were impossible to describe genre-wise.

Wall of Voodoo is pretty much "What If Ennio Morricone started a synth pop band?"
@@RudyHarlanPhantomBoom Their Ring of Fire cover says "Yes"
Wall of Voodoo and Dead Kennedys were my Californian favs in the 1980’s
1 of the most unique bands of the 80s as well as Stan Ridgway by himself.
I'll watch this video tomorrow. That seems like a pretty good idea to me.
I was in the crowd that day!😂the 80s, what I time to be alive!🙏💖

Nearly 40 years later, and the US Festival still hasn't been topped by other concerts or festivals.
Wall of Voodoo was basically a 2010 indie band 30 years before its time
You cant really describe wtf was going on with these people
2010 Indie bangs were just jocking on Wall of Voodoo.
The vocals were different but they sound a lot like the Minutemen here.
Wal of Voodoo was unique. Those "indie" bands are wannabe d-bags

Indeed! Just learned that “Joey” was written about MM by Jonette Napolitano after Concrete Blonde toured with WoV. RIP Chicken Head!
Just saw him do this at Johnny D's in Somerville, MA. He has had a great career making some of the best music, back to WOV days.
Johnny D's. Man. I loved that place.
A very eclectic band. Very underrated, misunderstood outfit.
