    I think you're your own worst critic dude. I don't see any problems with that final handle. That's a beautiful knife that anyone should be happy to get.

    Hi 👋 there, brother ?!!! It's always exceptional 👌 but if you square up the billet, you don't need to have a cracked edge on your billet, but everything is gorgeous 😍

    that turned out AMAZING!!! I just LOVE that all the black speckles have a really thin silver ring around the outside, but all the fill looks almost like static!! I never saw fishhooks turn out like that.... WOW!
    And the handle just being a simple dark and light really goes with that blade too
    I personally like the hidden tang technique because there is more opportunity to customize, and change up the handle. Whereas the riveting two pieces of material is fairly limited in that regard. I don't think I've ever seen anyone have more than just two halves riveted together... I guess you could customize make a block out of multiple pieces epoxied together and then cut the whole thing in half lengthwise and then rivet them on... that actually sounds like best way.... you could ever make the two halves sort of interlock through hole in the tang, or overlap through spaces notched into the 'top' of the tang so see the two pieces covering over spots of the metal
    and you could always make custom rivets too.... So yea, I think you changed my mind on which of these two types of handles I like more.... lol ....
    oh yea... I emailed someone with a pretty big channel about how he got started sponsors and stuff like that... so hopefully he emails me back and I give you some more info about getting that ball rolling... and please don't think I'm doing this to try to get something out of it, or to scheme or scam anyone.... I just wanna help out... I spend a lot of time on yt and I want to give back to the channels I enjoy, I just don't have a job because I'm taking care of my elderly Mom full time right now.. so I spend my down time on yt and would like to show some appreciation somehow :) So I hope I can help get the ball rolling for ya :)

    Just a little tip when using your bandsaw, don’t cut the steel on the flat side. Position the steel vertically and not on the flat side. There is more surface area to cut through the way you cut the end off. Love your work and keep pounding metal! 😊

    USE A CHOPSTICK in the hole to pour epoxy into a hidden tang handle. It runs down to the bottom first and you raise the chopstick as it fills. NO BUBBLES!!

      I was thinking something similar… a skewer. Maybe running it through a small plastic funnel… have to play with that experiment later.

      Do you know how strong the fish hook steel is? Have you had any problems with it not holding up and dulling?

    • @4wknives
      @4wknives 12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @ just in theory. Being high carbon fish hooks would lead me to believe that. They should hold up. But not knowing exact steel leaves reason to question theory. I have had no problems of dulling from any of the 5 I have made and sold

    try mixing your epoxy in a baggy, then cutting off a corner and squeezing it out to put the epoxy in the handle.

    Another good video. Couple of hacks I picked up. I have same problem with hidden tang fit ups. I typically get a piece of liner material or brass to cover my top piece of wood now. It's much easier to fit the blade to that than the wood. I just keep it black or whatever color I'm mixing with my epoxy and the fit up is usually very close and the glue will hide the rest. The other hack I picked up was using alcohol to thin out my epoxy when pouring into the hole. It seems to help and the alcohol will dissipate and not affect the hold( it does add curing time though). I guess to be honest I cannot with a shadow of doubt confirm it holds exactly the same as without it , but I've tested it and it seems to be no problem. Do you think you will have any soft spots from the fish hooks? The blade looks amazing but I get concerned when I use something that I don't know it's hardenability. Look forward to your content, keep up the good work.

    • @JPsBladeworks
      @JPsBladeworks  13 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for the tips. Im not sure exactly on the hardness of the fish hooks myself but the steel did darken up quite a bit and that usually happens when i have some good steel. But that is just a hunch with 0 proof to back it up.

    I'm going to try my first canister soon. Going with fishhooks b/c I like the look, and that seems like a pretty inexpensive option. Still need to buy my powder. Is there a reason you use 2% nickle, rather than 5%? I've got no power hammer of press, so wish m luck ; ) I like that knife!

    Every time I watch you off cut your billets I wonder if one day you’ll do a random pattern canister damascus with those offcuts. Actually, every knife maker’s videos I watch I wonder what they do with offcuts. Tyrell is the only one who satisfied that curiosity a couple years ago. th-cam.com/video/Si58yvY9Y-8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=cEtY1z1HW65kZHEU
