Super nice set up. I learned from someone’s video that turkeys like it warm. I bought 4 and they’re living the life in my bathroom. 🤷🏼♀️😂 Super happy. I keep a heater on for them if it cools down.

Having said that, it’s actually amazing to me that turkeys are still alive in the world as a species… and THAT being said, I got 10 bbbronze and 10 bbwhite coming next week, I bought 500lbs of 30% feed today, when that’s gone I butcher, I’m hoping at least half make it to that point, 2/3 would be amazing…
I’ve raised turkeys for the past 10 years and now my mortality rate is down to 3-5%. The best advice I can give you is to keep them on the hotter side during brooding. The best way I can describe it is to keep them hot enough so they have to drink water. A hot spot under a lamp isn’t enough, but ambient temperature needs to be warm too.

The brooder is 4ft square and 2 ft high, right now about 90% of the top is covered, I got the light in the open spot and the hotspot at 115f, everywhere I shine my temp gun it reads 90 or more even the farthest corners, when I stick my arm in the air feels really warm in there. I put a couple chicks in with them to show them how to eat and drink, and everybody is drinking and eating really good so far. I got the 10 bbbronze arriving tomoro so these guys can show them how it’s done and I can take the chickens out. From what Ive seen so far, you are right about keeping the entire brooder hot, this is much hotter than I keep my chicken brooder and heck my ducklings and goslings already got their light turned off at 3 weeks

Can you please tell me about how many square feet of brooder you have for how many chicks? I don’t want 300 so I want to scale it down accordingly. Thanks.
Where do you think turkeys in the supermarket come from? I enjoy raising my own animals. I know how they were treated. The live they lived and what they are fed. If the animal is going to make the ultimate sacrifice, I want them to live the best and humane life as possible.

You can lead a horse to water and you can tech a poult to drink. We have 15 straight run due in June.

I just picked up a variety of four species. I’ll be able to baby them a lot, they’ll basically be companions, unless one of them is a dickhead

Yes adults turkeys are very keen, however before they become adults, many wild turkey poults die and the survival rate is only 40-60%.
