    Just a thought Chuck. Build another of those brooders along the wall. Leave it empty. WHen you need to get the poults out due to soiled bedding just set em up in your spare while you clean and reset the other one for your third. During the spring summer fall you can add it to capacity and have it for the winter mode.
    Hope all is well. If it weren't for farmers and truckers we'd all starve.

      Good idea. We’ve build another, much bigger brooder, that will help us do exactly what you are talking about. It’s 8x8 and will hold 250 chicks. We are going to keep these 2 smaller ones for overflow and holding if we need to clean out or work on something.
      Great suggestion!

    thank you for supporting Goodwill. my son loved working at the Goodwill in our area. I look at my purchases from Goodwill as a way to recycle and keep usable items out of the landfill and providing work for people that may not find work elsewhere. thank you for sharing your experiences, the good and the bad.

    Goodwill and Salvation Army has been my go to stores for years. GW Monday tag day $1.79. I have found bran new jeans, dress slacks, coats, farm clothes and coats, small appliances and spend a minor fraction of what the cost is in retail stores.
    Hope the turkeys are doing ok outside.

    What size and type of tarp do you use for the Suscovich chicken tractor?

    • @SheratonParkFarms
      @SheratonParkFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use either a 10x12 or 10x14. The 14 go all the way to the ground and I actually prefer them to the shorter ones.

    I put turkeys & broilers outside with lamps, cardboard, & tarps, in a more flimsy structure from day one-thats their brooder. Put no hay in corners, just under lights. This has worked for 20 years, no matter what outside temp is. They get grass from day one.

      You are correct! It’s Zachariah Hickman.
      TH-cam has a library of music for video creators that is free to use. As you know, using others music without their permission is a copyright violation so TH-cam provides some options. I tend to stick with their “country/folk” genre as opposed to the “alternative/punk” tunes. 😆

    great video! starting chicks soon, hope to add pullets later on this season. I know it's not the norm but I had to price out organic starter feed just for curiosity. Looking at the ingredients label, which has nearly 25 to 30 ingredients I'm a bit concerned. things like synthetic thiamine , l-lysine etc etc.
    If this is the jazzz that's in organic, what's in regular feed? Do any simple feed mixes exist for chick / layer feed? Thanks

    Turkeys seem to die if you look at them wrong during the first 2 weeks, they also like to pile on top each other and smother themselves… it’s actually amazing there are still turkeys in the wild, living without the help of humans…
