I still think of that sometimes, this has to be the most memorable opening ceremony of all time. Yes, when we twigged what it was coming together to form .. and I thought I'm so silly, of course! But still. And also, there's never going to be a better Olympic cauldron than the one that came together at the end from each country's piece. It was deceptively simple but symbolised what it's all about.
This track is simply incredible. Still listening to it years later. What an amazing production for the eyes and ears that moment was. Wish I could have been there to witness it.

That whistling in the middle and on the end, is so comforting that it's like saying everything will be alright, don't worry you will overcome all your problems and fears!
The whistling was actually timed to represent the time for quiet reflection and remembrance of the two World Wars in amongst the social upheaval that was taking place at the time, hence the shots of soldiers and poppies that were interspersed during the opening ceremony.

Sometimes, a nation's greatness can be measured by its art. These opening ceremonies were a good example of that. Transcendent, the whole thing, but especially these Underworld tracks. I was mesmerized as I watched. And I am mesmerized still every time I listen.
Beijing had one of the best displays of excellence in a performance (imo). I doubt anybody can match their precision and execution. However, this particular segment in the London games was just raw emotion and that’s what took the cake for me.
Such a dark and simultaneously energetic song, it perfectly captures the awe and fear that came with rapid industrialisation. A fitting tribute to Great Britain at the height of its power.

It was completely different to Beijing. That was the whole point. London didn't have the billions in State aid that the Chinese poured in to Beijing as a propaganda exercise.
This sequence was phenomenal and I don't take away anything from it. Unfortunately Tokyo was in the midst of the pandemic and they had to really numb down their opening ceremony. I still remember rumors that the Japanese were planning to launch satellites into orbit years prior the opening ceremony and by the time the event was held it would have cause an artificial meteor shower over the arena. It was insane. Still though, the moment the rings come together and form the Olympic logo raining "gold" I think is the best and most iconic reveal in the history of the opening ceremonies.

Amazing track. Ceremony aside Underworld are great. Negative comments come from those who never got it. I'm not English but I would happily claim Underworld if I could. And at the end of it all the Brits did an amazing Olympics
This always reminds me of an athlete rejoining the athletic scene after coming from a hellish injury that almost ended his whole career. 9:10 is like the start when he begins to rise and conquer glory once more.
Then the beat resumes, signifying how, even after a tragedy such as a war, we carry on. Like the uplifting message during WWII: "Keep Calm and Carry On".
What a tribute this opening was to the people of Sheffield and the north, at a time when the foundries were closing due to the governments cut backs.. All those industrial people who thought that during the making of the games they were forgotten about.. To be thanked in this way is a real honour, and now we are becoming the northern powerhouse with huge investment.. long last.. Not sure this new government is doing it the right way though.. but at least we have been recognised out side London.. Great track.. dedicated the industry of the uk and the north.. well done 20 12 Olympia.. well done.

I remember looking at the opening ceremony then hearing elements of Rez and 2 months off and getting so excited thinking "It cant be". I dont know the guys personally but I felt so proud and happy for them. Peace, love and happiness to all ❤
I think the biggest irony is that the British were worried that they couldn't outdo Beijing with the drums they did, and yet they did and no one has surpassed this.
I swear this feels like it’s got some trance elements especially with that melody from 7:53 it takes you on an incredible journey I’m scared that it’s been nearly 8 years already since the opening ceremony which was possibly the best of all time.
Came in to double-check this exact part of the song and it's basically a pitched-down version of the very same sound from Two Months Off! And I can't remember what part of the song this is in (or if it's in another song from the soundtrack altogether) but the little siren risers from Rez are also a part of it!

I want to say that whilst I agree, that perhaps as non Chinese, we didn't fully understand or grasp the nuances of the Beijing performance.

Right now, the Brazil Olimpic games are just starting and I am listening to this awesome theme, remembering that awesome opening ceremony four years ago. I Guess it will be hard to beat that.

Amazing track. Ceremony aside Underworld are great. Negative comments come from those who never got it. I'm not English but I would happily claim Underworld if I could. And at the end of it all the Brits did an amazing Olympics
This always reminds me of an athlete rejoining the athletic scene after coming from a hellish injury that almost ended his whole career. 9:10 is like the start when he begins to rise and conquer glory once more.
8:00 the fact it's just over a minute of a relative silence fits so well with WW1 theming of that part.
Then the beat resumes, signifying how, even after a tragedy such as a war, we carry on. Like the uplifting message during WWII: "Keep Calm and Carry On".

What a tribute this opening was to the people of Sheffield and the north, at a time when the foundries were closing due to the governments cut backs..
All those industrial people who thought that during the making of the games they were forgotten about..

Just saw the London Opening Ceremonies last night after watching Rio (thank goodness for Olympics yt channel), and yeah I've watched it twice in 24 hours :)
That was something, that will never be eclipsed.
I remember looking at the opening ceremony then hearing elements of Rez and 2 months off and getting so excited thinking "It cant be". I dont know the guys personally but I felt so proud and happy for them. Peace, love and happiness to all ❤

I swear this feels like it’s got some trance elements especially with that melody from 7:53 it takes you on an incredible journey I’m scared that it’s been nearly 8 years already since the opening ceremony which was possibly the best of all time.
Came in to double-check this exact part of the song and it's basically a pitched-down version of the very same sound from Two Months Off! And I can't remember what part of the song this is in (or if it's in another song from the soundtrack altogether) but the little siren risers from Rez are also a part of it!
